N,N,N′,N′-tetramethylethylenediamine (TMEDA) acts as a simple, mild and efficient catalyst for the acylation of alcohols, phenols and thiols at room temperature under solvent-free condition. Acylation reaction with acetic anhydride and benzoic anhydride proceeds with good to excellent yield in the presence of TMEDA as the catalyst.
We study the existence and uniqueness of S-asymptotically ${\omega}-periodic$ mild solutions for some partial functional integrodifferential equations with infinite delay and nonlocal conditions.

Thermodynamic calculations were made to find an optimum condition of simultaneous chromizing and aluminizing of mild steel. Results of calculations showed that Cr-Al alloy powder should be used and the optimum composition was 90~95wt% Cr and 5~10wt% Al. Simultaneous chromizing and aluminizing of a mild steel was achieved using 95Cr-5Al wt% alloy powders as a masteralloy, NH4Cl as an activator at $1273^{\circ}$K under Ar atmosphere.
Mild combustion is considered as a promising combustion technology for energy saving and low emission of combustion product gases. In this paper, the controllability of reaction region in mild combustion is examined by using co-axial air nozzle. For this purpose, numerical approach is carried out. Propane is considered for fuel and air is considered for oxidizer and the temperature of air is assumed 900K slightly higher than auto ignition temperature of propane. But unlike main air, the atmospheric condition of co-axial air is considered. Various cases are conducted to verify the characteristics of Co-Axial air burner configuration. The use of coaxial air can affect reaction region. These modification help the mixing between fuel and oxidizer. Then, reaction region is reduced compare to normal burner configuration. The enhancement of main air momentum also affects on temperature uniformity and reaction region. The eddy dissipation concept turbulence/chemistry interaction model is used with two step of global chemical reaction model.
In this study, the multi-environment probability density function(MEPDF) approach has been applied to numerically investigate Delft-Jet-in-Hot-Coflow(DJHC) turbulent flames under Moderate or Intense Low-oxygen Dilution (MILD) combustion condition. Computations are made for two different jet velocities(Re = 4100 and 8800). In terms of mean axial velocity, temperature, and turbulent kinetic energy, numerical results are in reasonably good agreements with experimental data even if there exist the noticeable deviations in downstream region. Based on numerical results, the detailed discussions are made for the essential features of the non-visible flame structure and MILD combustion processes.
The MILD combustion and pollutant emission characteristics were investigated computationally. The temperature of supplying air-stream and mixing rate (${\Omega}$) of exhaust gas in the air-stream were adjusted to investigate the effects of those parameters on the MILD combustion in jet flow field. The emission indices for NO (EINO) and CO (EICO) were introduced to quantify the amount of those species emitted from the combustion. The high-temperature region disappeared gradually as the mixing rate increased for fixed air-stream temperature. The EINO increased as the air-stream temperature became higher for fixed mixing rate, and the EINO decreased dramatically with increasing the mixing rate for each air-stream temperature condition. The EICO also decreased with increasing the mixing rate and it was nearly independent of air-stream temperature except for near ${\Omega}$ = 0.7. It was found that the CO supplied in the air-stream can be destroyed in the MILD combustion over the certain mixing rate.

This study was performed to evaluate the effect of iron supplementation on iron-deficiency-related indices, oxidative stress and antioxidative enzyme activity in female marathoners. Fourteen teenage female marathoners participated in the study. Subjects were divided into two groups: mild anemic and control, depending on their hemoglobin (Hb) level. The mild anemic group had significantly lower RBC count and hematocrit (Hct) and Hb levels compared to the control group. The mild anemic group (〈12.5g Hb/dI, n=7) was given iron supplements (60mg Fe/day) for four weeks during the summer training period. RBC count, Hct and Hb levels showed an increasing tendency through iron supplementation, and significant differences in these variables between the anemic and control groups disappeared in the post-period. There was no difference in plasma malondialdehyde (MDA) between the anemic and control groups. However, catalase (CAT) and glutathione peroxidase (GPx) activity were significantly higher in the anemic group. The significant difference in enzyme activity between the groups disappeared in the post-period. In addition, superoxide dismutase activity significantly decreased after iron supplementation. In conclusion, antioxidative enzyme activity was up-regulated in an anemic condition and mild iron supplementation decreased the antioxidant enzyme activity of female marathoners while improving their anemic condition.
Since Berkhoff proposed the mild-slope equation in 1972, it has widely been used for calculation of shallow water wave transformation. Recently, it was extended to give an extended mild-slope equation, which includes the bottom slope squared term and bottom curvature term so as to be capable of modeling wave transformation on rapidly varying topography. These equations were derived by integrating the Laplace equation vertically. In the present study, we develop a finite element model to solve the Laplace equation directly while keeping the same computational efficiency as the mild-slope equation. This model assumes the vertical variation of wave potential as a cosine hyperbolic function as done in the derivation of the mild-slope equation, and the Galerkin method is used to discretize . The computational domain was discretized with proper finite elements, while the radiation condition at infinity was treated by introducing the concept of an infinite element. The upper boundary condition can be either free surface or a solid structure. The applicability of the developed model was verified through example analyses of two-dimensional wave reflection and transmission. .

Drought is a major limiting factor that reduces rice production and occurs often especially under recent climate change. Plants have the ability to alter their developmental morphology in response to changing environment, which is known as phenotypic plasticity. In our previous studies, we found that one chromosome segment substitution line (CSSL50 derived from Nipponbare and Kasalath crosses) showed no differences in shoot and root growth as compared with the recurrent genotype, Nipponbare under non-stress condition but showed greater growth responses compared with Nipponbare under mild drought stress condition. We hypothesized that reducing root respiration as metabolic cost, which may be largely a consequence of aerenchyma formation would be one of the key mechanisms for root plasticity expression. This study aimed to evaluate the root respiration and aerenchyma formation under various soil moisture conditions among genotypes with different root plasticity. CSSL50 together with Nipponbare and Kasalath were grown under waterlogged conditions (Control) and mild drought stress conditions (20% of soil moisture content) in a plastic pot ($11cm{\times}14cm$, ${\varphi}{\times}H$) and PVC tube ($3cm{\times}30cm$, ${\varphi}{\times}H$). Root respiration rate was measured with infrared gas analyzer (IRGA, GMP343, Vaisala, Finland) with a closed static chamber system. There was no significant difference between genotypes in control for shoot and root growth as well as root respiration rate. In contrast, all the genotypes increased their root respiration rates in response to mild drought stress. However, CSSL50 showed lower root respiration rate than Nipponbare, which was associated by higher root aerenchyma formation that was estimated based on internal gas space (porosity) under mild drought stress conditions. Furthermore, there were significant negative correlations between root length and root respiration rate. These results imply that reducing the metabolic cost (= root respiration rate) is a key mechanism for root plasticity expression, which CSSL50 showed under mild drought.
Considering for plants and structure under extreme conditions is required for the successful design, especially temperature and pressure. The ductile-brittle transition temperature (DBTT) for the materials under extreme condition needs to be considered. In this study, A-grade mild steel for the LNG carrier and offshore plant was examined by performing low-temperature Charpy V-notch (CVN) impact tests to investigate DBTT and the fracture toughness. The absorbed energy decreased gradually with the experimental temperature, which showed an upper-shelf energy region, lower shelf energy region, and transition temperature indicating DBTT. In addition, the fracture surface morphologies of the mild steels indicated ductile fractures at the upper-shelf energy level, with wide and large-sized dimples, whereas a brittle fracture surface, where was observed at the lower-shelf energy level, with both large and small cleavage facets. Based on the experimental results, ductile brittle transition temperature was estimated in about $-60^{\circ}C$.
