The subjects were 337 late middle-aged women and their age range os from 45 to 59 fears old. Data were collected through anthropometry and photometry and analyzed by factor analysis, cluster analysis and discriminant analysis. The results were as follows; 1. The result of factor analysis indicated that 9 factors were extracted through factor analysis and those factors comprised 83.56 percent of total valiance. 2. Using factor scores, cluster analysis was carried out and the subject were classified into 4 cluster. Each cluster was classified as their body front and side view contour. Type 1 is tall, slim, and lower balk is flat on the side. Type 2 is standard and lean-back type on the side. Type 3 is standard height and weight, H type in front, and belly-protruded on the side. Type 4 is short, fat, and the side is hip-protruded. 3. According to the stepwise discriminant analysis, the 9 important items in classifying the somatotype of the late middle-aged women are as follows ; lower back tilt angle, hip depth(back) -back waist depth(back), bust depth(fore) - anterior waist depth(fore), jugular fossa point(fore), upper back tilt angle, burst breadth -waist breadth, right shoulder tilt, height of shoulder - height of anterior waist, abdomen breath. The correct classification rate for these items is as exact as 84.62%.

  • The purpose of this study is to investigate the relationship between menopausal symptoms and spiritual well-being. In order to collect the research data, 350 questionaries were sent to the middle aged women who were 40-59 years old. During the collection period, March 20, 1977-April 20, 1977, 264 questionaries were collected. The questionnaire was prepared by using other researchers' scale, such as menopausal symptom scale by Neugarton and spiritual well-being scale by Paloutzian & Ellison. The research data were analyzed by various testable methods, such as frequency, t-test or ANOVA, and Pearson's correlation. The main results of this study were as follows ; Among the general characteristic variables, some variables have statistical significancy in explaining the difference of the menopausal symptoms. Such variables include age(F=5.17, p=0.002), years get married(F=4.23, p=0.002), number of children(F=3.08, p=0.028), income level of family(F=3.07, p=0.017), life style at leisure time(F=2.47, p=0.045). Some variables related to health condition could explain the differences of the menopausal symptoms among middle aged women. current menstruation stage(F=9.82, p=0.000), current health condition(F=9.82, p=0.000), and experience being operated in the past(F=9.82, p=0.000) are related to the menopausal symptoms. Serious menopausal symptoms which could be found in this study were 'back pain and joint pains(2.6)', nervousness(2.4), and psychosomatic symptom(1.97). Spiritual well-being inquiries could be classified into two subgroups, existential and religious. The mean score of existential well-being(3.04) was higher than that of religious well-being(2.76). Relatively higher existential well-being(3.10) was found in the women who have stable menstruation cycle. The age when the menopause began was related to spiritual well-being(F=3.29, p=0.046). The correlation between menopausal symptoms and spiritual well-being was statistically significant(r=-0.133, p=0.031). Based on the above results, nursing intervention program of menopausal symptoms is recommended in order to promote the health of middle-aged women.

  • The youth-pursing syndrome is especially amplified through a variety of media due to medical technology development, increases in social activities, and influence. This study discusses the relationship of youth-pursuing, media appearance information interest, and media contact responses focused middle-aged women. Data were collected from 245 females aged 40-65 in Seoul, Daejeon and Chungbuk area residents. The SPSS WIN 21.0 program analyzed the data by descriptive statistics, factor analysis, and regression analysis. Youth-pursuing derived social, psychological, and outward factors. Only an outward factor of these three dimensions influenced a significant media appearance information interest, and media contact response. The regression analysis results for chronological age and cognitive age, cognitive age influenced all variables significantly (three factors of youth-pursuing, media appearance information interest, and media contact response). But chronological age influenced significantly only the media appearance information interest. This study verified the relationship of youth-pursuing and media variables (media appearance information interest and media contact response).

  • The bra is one of the most essential pieces of women's underwear which gives support for the breasts and holds them in position to make better outer appearance of upper body. Despite being worn by most women of all ages, brassiere manufacturers often use brassiere sizes and shapes that are close to the body measurements of women in their 20s, which raises questions whether the bras are suitable for older women's physique. Also, many lingerie markets tend to center on designs and tastes of younger women, leaving those of older women are largely ignored in the manufacturing process despite the fact that their purchasing power and market shares are expected to grow in conjunction with the aging of the global population. Against this backdrop, this study attempts to provide information about bra preferences and breast perceptions of the middle-aged and older US women over the age of 40 years to help manufacturers better understand the bra purchasing priorities and bra elements of older women and prompt them to design bras with a high level of fit and comfort that are appreciated by the population groups as a means to ultimately acquire competitive edge in the fast growing aging market. An email survey and interviews were conducted with 301 US women who live in New York City. The findings of this study suggest that there are internal and external factors such as changes in body and breast shapes with age influence the level of fitness and effectiveness of bra components, and thus the responses to the questions on bra preferences and breast perceptions varied between the researched age groups.
