  • This study was attempted to identify the effects of physical and mental health on quality of life in middle-aged adults by gender. The Data were analyzed for 4,511 adults (2,260 men, 2,251 women) aged 45 to 65 who had no missing values in major variables based on the data of the 2016 Korea Health Panel. According to the data, the quality of life in middle-aged adults was .92 (±.08) for men and .91 (±.10) for women, which was significantly higher than that of women (t=3.54, p<.001). Factors affecting the quality of life in middle-aged men were subjective health status (β=.40, p<.001), stress (β=-.17, p<.001) and education level (β=.10, p<.001), and these variables explained 23% of the quality of life (F=227.28, p<.001). Factors affecting the quality of life in middle-aged women were subjective health status (β=.40, p<.001), stress (β=-.11, p<.001), education level (β=.05, p=.011) and anxiety (β=-.05, p=.022), and these variables explained 21% of the quality of life (F=145.42, p<.001). Based on the results of this study, the group with low level of education in middle-aged adults needs health management, education on how to relieve stress, and intensive management to improve the quality of life. In addition, the differentiated approach should be required to reduce anxiety in middle-aged women.

  • This study analyzed fashion taste changes for middle-aged men (40-50s) from the 1960s-1980s through newspapers evaluated as socially influential media. As a result, the fashion interest of middle-aged men in the 1960s was very low, and the formation and selection of fashion taste was mainly decided by the wife. However, as the interest in fashion and fashion gradually increased in the 1970s, the interest and taste of fashion in middle-aged men started to change. In the 1980s, social equality and women's advancement into society began, and initiated the appearance of a youthful-looking casual style and establishing an individual subjectivity about fashion taste. Based on this, the specificity of the change of fashion taste among Korean middle-aged men in the 1960s-1980s were as follows. First, the changes in the aesthetic sense of middle-aged men and the increase of fashion interest were due to changes in socio-cultural appearance standards. Second, there was an increase in the pursuit of individuality due to the weakening of fashion consciousness as a collective norm. Third, there were change in subjectivity about fashion taste and consumption.

  • This study was performed to investigate the risk factors for coronary heart disease in elderly women. Seventy five elderly women over 65 years of age participated with 35 elderly men over 65 years of age, 40 middle-aged men and 31 middle-aged women as control subjects. The percentage of body fat(34.1 5.6%) in elderly women found to be significantly higher than in other groups and their waist/hip circumference ratio(WHR) was higher than in middle-aged women. The concentrations of plasma total cholesterol and LDL-cholesterol in elderly women were higher than in other groups, TG concentration higher than in middle aged women and HDL-cholesterol % lower than in other groups. Plasma cholesterol ester transfer protein(CETP) activities of elderly women were significantly higher than in middle-aged subjects, but were not different from those of elderly men. Plasma Apolipoprotein(Apo) A-I level in elderly women was higher than in middle-aged men but not different from the other groups. Differences among groups were not great in Lipoprotein (Lp)(a)levels. CETP activities were significantly correlated with age, body fat % total cholesterol, LDL-cholesterol and Lp(a). Therefore, it appears that the increased risk of coronary heart disease in elderly women is due to the increase of body fat, central adipose distribution, serum total cholesterol, LDL-cholesterol and CETP activities.

The results were as follows: their heights, fat masses, percentages of body fat, WHR, RBW, BMI and fitness scores were significantly higher in the obese subjects when compared to the normal and overweight subjects. Self-perceptions of weight and desires of weight control were significantly related with their percents of Fat. The overweight and the obese groups skipped meals, ate supper out, ate snacks, smoked tobacco, and exercised less frequently than the normal group. There were no significant differences in the scores of the dietary habits and drinking of alcohol among the three groups. • The purpose of this study is to measure middle aged men's bodies around the ages of thirty-five through filly-five, whose age-group undergoes drastic changes on their body shapes. Further, body shapes are grouped based on the measurements, and pattern making methods are presented in order to effectively make up for the undesirable body features of middle-aged men. In order to develop patterns fit for middle aged men's body shapes, the regression which reflects physical characteristics was applied for the experimental shirts pattern, instead of comparative patterns which applies the same equation. For the two body types classified above(Bend-forward Type and Lean-back Type), correlation among the factors necessary for pattern design was considered and the regression was formularized accordingly. To validate the regression, the same amount of ease as in the comparative patterns was applied to the chest girth, and reasonable ease to the armhole depth and neck girth. In this way, experimental shirts patterns fit for the body types were developed. After the modification through the wearing test, the experimental shirts pattern was completed as herein.
