Microwave assisted processing of silver thick films for microelectronic applications

  • This paper aims to focus on the microwave processing of thick films which is a fast, cheap technique and could be the alternative to the currently used conventional high temperature processing technique. Microwave processing has gained worldwide acceptance as a novel method for heating and sintering a variety of materials, as it offers specific advantages in terms of speed, energy efficiency, process simplicity, finer microstructures and lower environmental hazards. Silver conducting thick films were prepared and processed in the household microwave oven. The films sintered at different time period by keeping the other parameter such as microwave power, film thickness etc constant. The microstructure analysis revealed that the surface morphology of the microwave processed films become compact with respect to the processing time. The sheet resistance for microwave sintered silver films is in the range of 0.003 to $1.207{\Omega}/{\Box}$ where as the films fired at 750 and $850^{\circ}C$ showed the resistance of 0.009 and $0.003{\Omega}/{\Box}$ which can be comparable. The results revealed that the microstructure of the microwave sintered films has more uniform and compact surface than that of the conventionally fired films. The paper reports upon the preparation of silver thick film by screen printing technique and processing the same by microwave which also compared with the conventionally processed thick films.

백삼 및 백미삼 추출물의 초단파 및 식초 처리에 의한 인삼 사포닌 성분 변화 (The Change of Ginsenoside Composition in White Ginseng and Fine White Ginseng Extract by the Microwave and Vinegar Process)

  • The purpose of this study is to develop a new preparation process of ginseng extracts having high concentrations of ginsenoside $Rg_3$, $Rg_5$ and $Rk_1$, a special component of Red ginseng. Chemical transformation from ginseng saponin glycosides to prosapogenin was analyzed by the HPLC. Extracts of White ginseng (Panax ginseng) and Fine White ginseng were processed under several treatment conditions including microwave and vinegar (about 14% acidity) treatments. Results of those treatments showed that the quantity of ginsenoside $Rg_3$ increased by over 0.6% at 4 minutes of pH 2~4 vinegar and microwave treatments. The results of processing with MWG-4 indicate that the Microwave and vinegar processed white ginseng extracts (about 14% acidity) that had gone through 4-minute treatments were found to contain the largest amount of ginsenoside $Rg_3$ (0.626%), $Rg_5$ (0.514%) and $Rk_1$ (0.220%). Results of treatments with MFWG-5 showed that the Fine White ginseng extracts that had been processed with microwave and vinegar (about 14% acidity) for 5 minutes were found to contain the largest amount of ginsenoside $Rg_3$ (4.484%), $Rg_5$ (3.192%) and $Rk_1$ (1.684%). It is thought that such results provide basic information in preparing White ginseng and Fine White ginseng extracts with functionality enhanced.

Effect of Heat Pretreatment on the Functional Constituents of Rice Germ

  • Changes in functional constituents of rice germ prepared using three different heat pretreatments: roasting, steaming and microwave heating, were determined and compared with those of non-treated rice germ. The yield of rice germ oil increased generally and then decreased with increasing time for all three heat pretreatments, although the yields of rice germ oil varied among the three heat pretreatments. There were no major differences in fatty acid compositions among the rice germ oils subjected to the three different heat pretreatments. Levels of $\alpha$-tocopherol in rice germ oil increased up to about 1.5 times at 3 min of roasting and microwave heating, compared to control, and then decreased with increasing treatment time, but $\alpha$­tocopherol concentrations in rice germ oil gradually decreased with increasing steaming time. The contents of three phytosterols ($\beta$-sitosterol, stigmasterol and ergosterol) decreased progressively with increases in roasting and steaming time, while concentrations of the three phytosterols increased up to - 15$\%$ with 3 min of microwave process as compared to control, and then decreased thereafter. Levels of $\gamma$-oryzanol in rice germ oil decreased gradually with increasing time during all three different heat pretreatments. However, levels of $\gamma$ -aminobutyric acid (GABA) in rice germ decreased gradually with increasing roasting time, while those of GABA increased greatly up to about 2 times after 10 min of steaming process, and then decreased slowly thereafter. During microwave heating, the contents of GABA increased at 3 min of treatment time and then decreased. These results suggest that microwave heating may be the most suitable processing method to preserve functional constituents in rice germ.

  • Nyamplung (Calophyllum inophyllum Linn) is one of the most widely grown plants in Indonesia. In addition, nyamplung oil has a future competitive advantage in that it can be processed into biodiesel. However, conventional methods for transesterification of nyamplung oil have been less effective. Therefore, in this study biodiesel was produced using microwaves as one of the alternative methods that can improve the shortcomings of conventional methods. In addition, optimization of parameters such as microwave power, catalyst concentration and transesterification time was done using Box-Behnken design. The combination of microwave with CaO catalyst and treated with Box-Behnken design are considered as a new and modern method for production of biodiesel from nyamplung oil and optimizing the factors that affected the transesterification process. The results showed that factors such as microwave power of 449.29 W, concentration of catalyst of 4.86% and transesterification time of 10.07 min can produce optimal yield of biodiesel of 92.73% with reliability of 93.22%.

Gd-Doped CeO2 분말의 마이크로파 소결 (Microwave Sintering of Gd-Doped CeO2 Powder)

  • 10 mol% $Gd_{2}O_{3}-CeO_{2}$ powder was sintered by microwave in a 2.45 GHz multimode cavity to develop a dense electrolyte layer for intermediate temperature solid oxide fuel cells (IT-SOFCs). Samples were sintered from $1100^{\circ}C$ upto $1500^{\circ}C$ by $50^{\circ}C$ difference and kept for 10 min and 30 min at the maximum temperature respectively. Theoretical density of the sample sintered at $1200^{\circ}C$ for 10 min was 95.4% and increased gradually upto 99% in the sample sintered at $1500^{\circ}C$ for 30 min. All of sintered samples showed very fine microstructures and the maximum average grain size of the sintered sample at $1500^{\circ}C$ for 30 min was $(0.87{\pm}0.42){\mu}m$. Ionic conductvity of the samples were measured by DC 4 probe method.

  • In this paper, the best conditions for the deposition of the high quality diamond thin-film from N-hexane as a carbon source in the microwave plasma process was carried out. Major parameters are the deposition time, flow rates of oxygen and hexane. The deposition time for the steady state thin-film was required more than 4[h], and the suitable flow rates of hexane and oxygen for the high-quality thin-film are 0.4[sccm] and 0.1~0.2[sccm], respectively. In addition, amorphous carbons such as DLC and graphite were grown by increasing the flow rate of hexane, and it decreased by increasing the flow rate of oxygen. Specifically, the growth rate is about 1.5[${\mu}mh-1$] under no addition of oxygen and it decreased about 60[%] as ca. 1.0[${\mu}mh-1$] with oxygen.

  • 본 연구는 colemanite원광을 출발원료로 하여 붕산을 추출하는 공정에서 마이크로파 적용에 대한 연구로, 황산을 첨가하고 가열하여 colemanite의 칼슘 성분을 황산칼슘으로 분리하여 내고, 액상에 존재하는 붕소 성분은 붕산으로 재결정화 하여 제조하였다 Colemanite에 황산을 첨가해 가열하는 공정에 마이크로파를 적용하면, 일반 가열원을 사용하였을 때와 비교하여 적은 양의 황산을 사용하여 추출이 가능하고, 가열시간을 단축하는 것이 가능하였다. 생성된 붕산의 순도는 일반 가열원을 사용하였을 때와 동등한 수준이고 열 특성 또한 동일하였으나, 입자의 크기는 작아졌다.

  • 인삼가공제품의 원료로 사용되는 가용성 인삼성분의 신속한 추출방법을 개발하기 위한 기초연구로서, 기존 추출 방법들에 비해 환경친화적이고 경제적인 장점이 알려진 마이크로웨이브(2450MHz)의 추출조건을 조사하였다. 가용성 인삼성분의 추출에서 백미삼 원료의 입자크기는 60 mesh, 시료 대 용매비는 1 : 10(g/mL)이 각각 적당하였고, 마이크로웨이브 에너지는 100 W 이하에서 인삼성분의 추출이 용이하였다. 가용성 성분의 수율은 60% 에탄올을 용매로 하여 5분간 1회 추출시 약 83%, 5회 반복 추출시에는 사포닌 성분을 포함한 대부분의 가용성 성분을 추출할 수 있었다.

마이크로파 공정으로 제조된 $LaMnO_3$ 페롭스카이트형 촉매에서 벤젠의 연소반응 (Combustion Characteristics of Benzene over $LaMnO_3$ Perovskite-type Catalysts Prepared Using Microwave-assisted Process)

  • 페롭스카이트형 산화물을 마이크로파 공정으로 합성하여 XRD, XPS, BET 및 $H_2-TPR$ 등에 의해 특성분석을 하였고, 벤젠의 연소반응에서의 활성을 조사하였다. 대부분의 촉매들은 페롭스카이트 결정구조를 잘 가지고 있었으며 21 nm 에서 35 nm의 크기를 나타내었다. $LaMnO_3$ 촉매가 가장 높은 활성을 보여주었고 $250^{\circ}C$에서 거의 100%의 전환율을 나타내었으며, 마이크로파 공정으로 제조한 촉매가 기존의 졸-겔법으로 제조한 촉매에 비해 높은 활성을 보여주었다. 또한 소성온도가 증가함에 따라 연소반응의 활성이 증가하였다. 모든 촉매들의 산화환원 성질을 측정한 수소 승온환원 실험 결과는 벤젠의 연소반응의 순서와 잘 일치하였다.

Drying Ginseng Slices Using a Combination of Microwave and Far-Infrared Drying Techniques

  • Purpose: This study was performed to improve the drying quality and drying rate of ginseng slices by combining microwave and far-infrared drying techniques. Methods: Based on single-factor experiments and analyses, a quadratic regression orthogonal rotation combination design was adopted to study the effects of the moisture content at the conversion point between the microwave and far-infrared techniques, the ginseng slice thickness and the far-infrared drying temperature on the chip drying time, the surface color difference value, the nutritional composition and the surface shrinkage rate index. Results: Compared to the far-infrared drying alone, the combined microwave and far-infrared drying resulted in an increase in the saponin content of the ginseng slices and reductions in the drying time, surface color difference, and shrinkage rate. Conclusions: We established a mathematical model of the relationships between the surface shrinkage rate index and the experimental factors using the multi-objective nonlinear optimization method to determine the optimal parameter combination, which was confirmed to be the following: microwave and far-infrared moisture contents of 65%, a ginseng slice thickness of 1 mm, and a far-infrared drying temperature of $54^{\circ}C$.
