Background: Ginseng, which is widely used in functional foods and as an herbal medicine, has been reported to reduce the proliferation of prostate cancer cells by mechanisms that are not yet fully understood. Methods: This study was designed to investigate the changes in ginsenoside content in ginseng after treatment with a microwave-irradiation thermal process and to verify the anticancer effects of the extracts. To confirm the anticancer effect of microwave-irradiated processed ginseng (MG), it was tested in three human prostate cancer cell lines (DU145, LNCaP, and PC-3 cells). Involvements of apoptosis and autophagy were assessed using Western blotting. Results: After microwave treatment, the content of ginsenosides Rg1, Re, Rb1, Rc, Rb2, and Rd in the extracts decreased, whereas the content of ginsenosides 20(S)-Rg3, 20(R)-Rg3, Rk1, and Rg5 increased. Antiproliferation results for the human cancer cell lines treated with ginseng extracts indicate that PC-3 cells treated with MG showed the highest activity with an half maximal inhibitory concentration of $48{\mu}g/mL$. We also showed that MG suppresses the growth of human prostate cancer cell xenografts in athymic nude mice as an in vivo model. This growth suppression by MG is associated with the inductions of cell death and autophagy. Conclusion: Therefore, heat processing by microwave irradiation is a useful method to enhance the anticancer effect of ginseng by increasing the content of ginsenosides Rg3, Rg5, and Rk1.
Oxide semiconductor, represented by a-IGZO, has been commercialized in the market as active layer of TFTs of display backplanes due to its various advantages over a-Si. a-IGZO can be deposited at room temperature by RF magnetron sputtering process; however, additional thermal annealing above 300℃ is required to obtain good semiconducting properties and stability. These temperature are too high for common flexible substrates like PET, PEN, and PI. In this work, effects of microwave annealing time on IGZO thin film and associated thin-film transistors are demonstrated. As the microwave annealing time increases, the electrical properties of a-IGZO TFT improve to a degree similar to that during thermal annealing. Optimal microwave annealed IGZO TFT exhibits mobility, SS, Vth, and VH of 6.45 ㎠/Vs, 0.17 V/dec, 1.53 V, and 0.47 V, respectively. PBS and NBS stability tests confirm that microwave annealing can effectively improve the interface between the dielectric and the active layer.
Toluene desorption of modified activated carbon for microwave irradiation was evaluated. As a virgin GAC reacted from microwave energy, it created an "arcing" between GAC particles in desorption process. The arcing became more and more vigorous and achieved a red flame of GAC. The silica coated GAC(Si/GAC) was developed to prevent arcing phenomenon and temperature control problem. The result shows virgin GAC with 5wt%, 10wt% and 20wt% silica had no arcing and could control temperature very well. However, the adsorption rate of Si/GAC was decreased by coated silica amount due to decreasing surface area of GAC. The 5wt% Si/GAC adsorption rate was quite similar to virgin GAC adsorption rate. After adsorption, the toluene-loaded GAC and Si/GAC was reactivated by 2450MHz MW irradiation with 300W for 5 min. Quantitative desorption of the toluene was achieved at MW irradiation at 300W with desorption efficiencies as high as 98.59% to 84.65%% after four cycles.

Titanium silicalite-1 (TS-1) molecular sieve was produced by microwave heating of amorphous titanium-containing solid precursors after impregnation with aqueous TPAOH solution. $SiO_2-TiO_2$ xerogel, sub-micron sized $SiO_2-TiO_2$ prepared by thermal plasma process, and Ti-containing mesoporous silica, Ti-HMS, were tested as the solid phase substrates. Highly crystalline product was obtained within 30 min. after microwave irradiation with yields over 90% using $SiO_2-TiO_2$ xerogel, which showed essentially identical physicochemical properties to TS-1 prepared by conventional hydrothermal method. Excellent catalytic activity was also obtained for 1-hexene epoxidation using $H_2O_2.\;SiO_2-TiO_2$ particles prepared by thermal plasma and Ti-HMS were found inferior as a substrate for TS-1, probably due to difficulties in wetting the surface uniformly with TPAOH.
Sludgc d~sposal has been a major challenge in the wastewater treatment. Drying is operation which is separated fromsewage sludge to solid and liquid by heating. Drying needs to pretreatment process for effective "thation, incinerationand dispaal The objective of this work was to the drying dewatered sewage sludge by microwave heating, and tocompare the experimental rcsults with thcorctical rcsults. Microwave drylng is fast and has a high efficiency. In thepresent \ark, an unsteady state analysis of one dunensional drying, with microwave heating, is carried out. In drying ratecurve, moisture movement at falling rate period occured by dfision. A good agreement was abtamed between the modcland the experimental results using the slab sample of 0.2cm thickness. 0.2cm thickness.
This study is maintains the condition of high temperature (above $600^{\circ}C$) within a short time using on microwave and high temperature heating elements. And removal characteristics according to changes in soil moisture, microwave power and temperature through the decomposition of the contaminated soil by oil. The difficulty resolvability material was sort of lubricating oil having long carbocyclic (C18-C50) and TPH removal rate reached 85.2% at 6 kW and $700^{\circ}C$ and thus the contaminant was removed 1,788 mg/kg within a process time of 40 minutes. In the case of light oil, gasoline contaminated soil, the removal amount showed 567 mg/kg and the treatment rate reached 98.4% at 6 kW, $500^{\circ}C$ and 20 minute. In the case of non-resolvability reached TPH concentrations on 2,000 mg/kg of worrisome level of soil contamination in the 3 zones at 6 kW, $700^{\circ}C$ and 30 minute. At the time, showed up processing costs 8,173 won per ton.
In this study, zircon sand is separated into zirconia and silica by using the Ar-$H_2$ arc plasma refining. And then silica is removed from it by the microwave leaching method to produce a high pure zirconia. Plasma melting consist of two sequential processes; reduction process with Ar gas only followed by refining process with Ar-$H_2$ gas. After cooling in chamber. The solid phase obtained at $240^{\circ}C$ were found to be composed of 20% sulfuric acid solution. The solution was used as a leaching solution with microwave irradiation to obtain a high purity zirconia.
We report a supercapacitor cable, which consists of three-dimensional (3D) porous graphene coated onto the surface of carbon thread. The 3D porous framework of graphene was constructed by microwave-activated process using a graphene oxide-coated carbon thread. The use of microwave irradiation enabled to convert graphene oxide into reduced graphene oxide without any reducing agents and activate graphene sheets into exfoliated and porous graphene sheets. Combining two wire electrodes with a polymer gel electrolyte successfully completed supercapacitor device in a form of cable construction. The supercapacitor cables were highly flexible, and thus can be transformed into various shapes of devices and be integrated into textile items. A high area-capacitance of 38.1 mF/cm was obtained at a scan rate of 10 mV/s. This capacitance was retained 88% of its original value at 500 mV/s. The cycle life was also demonstrated by repeating a charge/discharge process during 10,000 cycles even under bent states, showing a high capacitance retention of 96.5%.
The purpose of this paper is to decide the optimum synthesis conditions of polycrystalline diamond films according to the ratio of gas mixture. Diamond films were deposited with cyclo-hexane as a carbon precursor by the microwave plasma enhanced chemical vapor deposition process. The optimum oxygen ratio to cyclo-hexane was reached about 125 % under the fixed 0.3% c-hexane in hydrogen. Oxygen plays a role in etching the graphitic components of carbon sp2 bond effectively. By OES measurement, the best synthesis conditions found out about 12.5 % and 15.75 %, which is the emission intensity ratios of CH(B-X) and $H{\beta}$ on $H{\alpha}$, respectively. Also, the electron temperature was similar about 5,000 to 5,200 K in this work.
