In this paper, an optimum size for the inset cut feed of microstrip antennas has been determined by using the finite-difference time domain method. At first, the return losses of microstrip antennas having various shapes and types of the inset cut feeds have been computed numerically for a given frequency and a substrate. Then an optimum size of the inset cut feed has been determined by iterative computation procedure for a given condition. It was found that the optimum width of the inset cut feed is about 0.42 times of the width of 50Ω feed line and the optimum length of the inset cut feed is about 0.36 times of the length of the antenna patch. These results are proved by the experimental data obtained from the measurements of many fabricated antennas. It was also found that the optimum size of the inset cut feed is independent on the frequency, the height and the dielectric constant of the antennal substrate.
For the size reduction, we propose a microstrip-fed monopole antenna with half X-slot in the radiation patch and cover WLAN dual band 2.4 GHz band (2.4 ~ 2.484 GHz) and 5 GHz band (5.15 ~ 5.825 GHz). The frequency characteristics such as impedance bandwidth and resonant frequencies were satisfied by optimizing the numerical values of various parameters, while the reflection loss in 5 GHz was improved by using defected ground structure (DGS). The proposed antenna is designed and fabricated on a FR-4 substrate with dielectric constant 4.3, thickness of 1.6 mm, and size of $24{\times}41mm^2$. The measured impedance bandwidths (${\mid}S_{11}{\mid}{\leq}-10dB$) of fabricated antenna are 450 MHz (2.27 ~ 2.72 GHz) in 2.4 GHz band and 1340 MHz (4.79 ~ 6.13 GHz) in 5 GHz band which sufficiently satisfied with the IEEE 802. 11n standard in dual band. In particular, radiation patterns which are stable as well as relatively omni-direction could be obtained, and the gain of antennas in each band was 1.31 and 1.98 dBi respectively.

This paper describes the design, fabrication, and measurement of a compact hexa-band coupling antenna for 4G mobile handset using a small element with two slots. In order to obtain sufficient bandwidth (LTE700, GSM850, GSM900, GSM1800, GSM1900, UMTS) with a Voltage Standing Wave Ratio $(VSWR){\leq}3:1$, two slots are inserted in the small element, and coupling patch is used. The measured result of the fabricated antenna provides 410MHz bandwidth form 0.688 to 1.098GHz and 643 MHz bandwidth form 1.607 to 2.250GHz (${\leq}VSWR 3:1$) with the gain ranging from -0.52 to 4.68 dBi. Also, a good radiation pattern is achieved within the hexa-band (0.698-0.960GHz and 1.710-2.170GHz) range.

In this paper, an antenna applicable to WLAN and WiMAX frequency bands is designed, fabricated, and measured. The proposed antenna is designed to have two branch strip line in the patch plane and a rectangular slit in the ground plane based on microstrip feeding for triple band characteristics and added a vertical strip in the ground plane to enhance impedance bandwidth characteristics. The proposed antenna is designed on a substrate with a relative permittivity of 4.4, a thickness of 1.0 mm, and has a size of $18.0mm(W1){\times}37.3mm$ (L4+L5+L7). From the fabricated and measured results, impedance bandwidths of 480 MHz (2.32 to 2.80 GHz) for 2.4/2.5 GHz band, 810 MHz (3.22 to 4.03 GHz) for 3.5 GHz band, and 1,820 MHz (5.05 to 6.87 GHz) for 5.0 GHz band were obtained based on the impedance bandwidth. Measured 3D pattern and gains are displayed.

The design and implementation of planar Active Phased Array Antenna System are described in this paper. This Antenna system operates at X-band with its bandwidth 10 % and dual polarization is realized using dual slot feeding microstrip patch antenna and SPDT(Single Pole Double Through) switch. Array Structure is $16\times16$ triangular lattice structure and each array is composed of TR(Transmit & Receive) module with more than 40 dBm power. Each TR module includes digital attenuator and phase shifter so that antenna beam can be electronically steered over a scan angle$({\pm}60^{\circ})$. Measurement of antenna pattern is conducted using a near field chamber and the results coincide with the expected beam pattern. From these results, it can be convinced that this antenna can be used with control of beam steering and beam shaping.

In this paper, the circularly polarized $4{\times}4$ array antenna is proposed for the X-band. A single antenna consists of square patch and unequal cross-aperture coupled feeding. The RHCP(Right Handed Circularly Polarization) is generated by unequal cross-aperture coupled feeding. By reducing space among elements of way antenna from 0.8 ${\lambda}_0$ to 0.45 ${\lambda}_0$, the mounting area of array antenna is miniaturized. The $2{\times}2$ array antenna is designed using sequential rotation feeding network. The good level of gain, axial ratio, and impedance bandwidth are achieved. The $4{\times}4$ array antenna is extended by ${\lambda}/4$ transformer and T-junction power divider. The simulated maximum radiation gain is 15.09 dBi at 10 GHz. The simulated 3 dB Axial Ratio bandwidth is from 9.05 to 10.4 GHz(13.5%). Also the measured impedance bandwidth($VSWR{\leq}2$) of manufactured $4{\times}4$ array antenna is from 8.45 to 11.84 GHz(33.9%). The measured maximum radiation gain is 11.10 dBi at 10 GHz. The measured 3 dB Axial Ratio bandwidth is from 9.42 to 10.47 GHz(10.5%).

In this paper, we designed and fabricated WLAN / UWB communication antennas operating at 3.3 [GHz] and 5 [GHz] bands in order to effectively use the high-speed communication network system that improved antenna miniaturization, gain and radiation pattern. Microstrip patch antennas were chosen to improve the bandwidth. The slot width, length, and transmission line width were calculated using the theoretical formula for each step. Simulation results show that the return loss is -14.053 [dB] at 3.3 [GHz] and -13.118 [dB] at 5 [GHz]. The gain showed a value of 2.479 [dBi] at 3.3 [GHz] and a value of 3.317 [dBi] at 5 [GHz]. After optimizing it with the CST Microwave Studio 2014 program, which can be 3D-designed, Based on these results, we investigated the performance of antennas by measuring their characteristics. In recent years, WLAN, which is a variety of wireless technologies that are continuously developing, and UWB, which is a communication technology which is increasing in frequency band due to an increase in demand of the technology users, is used for a high speed wireless communication system. Communication seems to be possible.

With a growing concern about the state of infrastructure worldwide, the demand for the development of reliable nondestructive testing techniques (NDT) is ever increasing. Among possible NDT techniques. microwave method is proven to be effective in fast and non-contact inspection of concrete structures and inclusions inside concrete. It is also found that the microwave method has a potential in detecting the delamination between fiber reinforced polymer (FRP) plate and concrete. On the other hand, ultrasonic method can be another way to find the delamination. In this paper, the research work needed for the development of a reliable microwave method and ultrasonic method is studied in actual measurements of concrete specimens reinforced with FRP. Concrete specimens are made with FRP and artificial delamination inside. A microwave measurement system with horn antennas with high center frequency and broad frequency bandwidth are used to image inside concrete specimens for the detection of debonding. between concrete and FRP. Also, the equipment of ultrasonic method which is commercialized are used at the same condition. Both of the results are analyzed in comparison of each other. Microwave and ultrasonic methods have been used for the detection of debonding between concrete and fiber-reinforced plastic (FRP).
In the paper, a dual band-notched monopole antenna is proposed for 2.4 GHz WLAN (2.4 ~ 2.484 GHz) and UWB (3.1 ~ 10.6 GHz) applications. The 3.5 GHz WiMAX band notched characteristic is achived by a pair of L-shaped slots instead of the previous U-shaped slot on the center of the radiating patch, whereas the 7.5 GHz band notched characteristic is achived by C-shaped strip resonator placed near to the microstrip feed line. The measured impedance bandwidth (${\mid}S_{11}{\mid}{\leq}-10dB$) is 8.62 GHz (2.38 ~ 11 GHz) which is sufficient to cover 2.4 GHz WLAN and UWB band, while measured band-notched bandwidths for 3.5 GHz WiMAX and 7.5 GHz bnad are 1.13 GHz (3.15 ~ 4.28 GHz) and 800 MHz (7.2 ~ 8 GHz) respectively. In particular, it has been observed that antenna has a good omnidirectional radiation patterns and higher gain of 2.51 ~ 6.81 dBi over the entire frequency band of interest.
