  • Micro-lens patterned micro-mold fabrication method for Light Guiding Plate(LGP), kernel part of LCD-BLU(Back Light Unit), was presented. Instead of erosion dot pattern for LGP optical design, micro-lens pattern, fabricated by LIGA-reflow process, was applied. Optical pattern design method was also developed not only for negative pattern LGP, but also positive pattern LGP. During injection molding process, experimental study was conducted to improve replication quality and brightness of ${\sim}50um$ micro-lens pattern mold. The effect of mold temperature for the replication quality of micro-lens array was studied.

  • This paper describes design techniques of general purpose thermal array printer, especially easily applicable to medical measurement equipment. The'general'means that the proposed thermal array printer can be applied to not only medical field but other industrial field by establishing the eligible protocol. The thermal array printer is composed of i)MPU and its peripherals ii)printer head control, iii)diverse protection circuits, and iv)serial communication. In this paper the performance of the proposed thermal array printer was evaluated by applying to an 3 channel electrocardiogram recorder. The propped system can support'Hangul'text as well as alphanumeric characters and any bitmap image.

  • We have studied the vortex dynamics in YBa$_2Cu_3O_7$ single crystals with columnar defects using micro Hall-probe array. The Hall-probe array technique allowed a simultaneous measurement of the time and spatial dependence of the vortex density so that more detailed information on flux dynamics could be obtained. We found that field profiles inside sample were similar to the Bean's critical state model from the magnetic hysteresis measurement. Normalized relaxation rates were maximum near the center and decreased toward the edge if applied field H$_{app}$ is greater than the penetration field H. But applied magnetic field H$_{app}$ is less than H, relaxation rates were minimum near the center and increased toward edge. We found that glassy exponent ${\mu}$ has the value of ${\sim}$ 1 whose corresponding vortex motion is half-loop excitation. However, single vortex creep, ${\mu}$ ${\sim}$ 1/7, was also found at 30 K and H$_{app}$ ${\cong}$ H'. Calculation of activation energy, U, was possible from direct analysis of the local relaxation data using the basic diffusion equation. From these results, we found that U increases logarithmically with time and U around center was lower than that at the edge.

  • A micro sensor array with 4 discrete sensors integrated on a microhotplate was developed for identifying the kinds and quantities of explosive gases. The sensor array consisited of four tin oxide-based thin films with the high and broad sensitivity to the tested explosive gases and uniform thermal distribution on the plate. The microhotplate, using silicon substrate with N/O/N membrane, dangling in air by Al bonding wires, and controlling the thickness by chemical mechanical process (CMP), has been designed and fabricated. By employing the sensitivity signal of the sensor array at 40$0^{\circ}C$, we could reliably classily the kinds and quantities of the explosive gases like butan, propane, LPG, and carbon monoxide within the range of threshold limit values (TLVs), employing principal component analysis (PCA).

  • Some 10$\times$10 micro-lens arrays of a period of 300 ${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$, a thickness of 17 ${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$, and a focal length of 2.2 mm are fabricated by exposing a thick layer of photoresist through a grayscale mask via UV proximity printing. The grayscale mask is fabricated in a holographic film by reducing (6.6X) a high-resolution black-and-white film where a grayscale patters of a micro-lens array designed by a computer has been written using a film recorder. The proposed method has the advantage of a low fabrication cost, a fill-factor of almost 100% and the ease of realizing an aspheric lens.

  • Combining cell- and gene-based therapy is a promising therapeutic strategy in regenerative medicine. The aim of this study was to develop genetically modified mesenchymal stem cell (MSC) aggregates using a poly(ethylene glycol) (PEG) hydrogel micro-well array technique. Stable PEG hydrogel micro-well arrays with diameters of 200 to $500\;{\mu}m$ were fabricated and used to generate genetically engineered MSC aggregates. Rat bone marrow-derived MSCs were transfected with a green fluorescent protein (GFP) plasmid as a reporter gene, and aggregated by culturing in the PEG hydrogel micro-well arrays. The resultant cell aggregates had a mean diameter of less than $200\;{\mu}m$, and maintained the mesenchymal phenotype even after genetic modification and cell aggregation. Transplantation of MSC aggregates that are genetically modified to express therapeutic or cell-survival genes may be a potential therapeutic approach for regenerative medicine.

  • The objective of the current investigation is to establish techniques in micro pattern forming operations of polymeric circular tubes by using hydrostatic pressing. This method was developed and successfully applied to the micro pattern forming on polymeric plates. The key idea of the new technique is to pressurize multiple vacuum-packed substrate-mold stacks above the glass transition temperature of the polymeric substrates. The new process is thought to be a promising micro-pattern fabrication technique for two reasons; first, (hydro-) isostatic pressing ensures a uniform micro-pattern replicating condition regardless of the substrate area and thickness. Second, multiple curved substrates can be patterned at the same time. With the prototype forming machine for the new process, micro prismatic array patterns, 25um in height and 90 degrees in apex angle, were successfully made on the PMMA circular tubes with diameters of 5~40mm. These results show that this process can be also used in the micro pattern forming process on curved plates such as circular tube.
