Recently, the need for transporting and manipulating minute amount of fluids in microscale channels (so-called micro-fluidics) has been increasing, especially in biotechnology and biochemical processing. This work demonstrates that the so-called mechano-chemical process which consists of mechanical abrasive action combined with chemical process can be used to f뮤ricate micro-fluidic channels more rapidly and cost effectively than other methods. In this work, capillary filling of fluids in micro-channels was investigated by theoretical approaches and experiments. From the experimental results, it is expected that a complex micro-fluidic system can be fabricated using the micro-fabrication technique and microsystem packaging method described in this work.
A new design procedure for micro cellular coverage prediction is presented here on this paper, which contains a new propagation analysis algorithm based on processing of vector data representing roads and buildings which mainly affect the propagation phenomena in micro-cell environments. The propagation analysis algorithm presented here has been developed to aim at the practical application for micro-cellular systems such as PCS or CE-2. As all the vectors used here are of closed poly lines, i.e., polygons, a simplified ray path search technique can be developed not only to determine if the calculation points are on the road polygons and but also to calculate the amount of blockage by buildings. The result shows a capability of predicting path loss with an RMS error of 5dB or lower.
Tungsten-carbide as typical difficult-to-cut material has excellent mechanical properties such as high thermal resistivity, mechanical strength and chemical durability. However, it is next to impossible for tungsten-carbide to be fabricated the needed parts by cutting process. In this study, for establishing the micro fabrication method of tungsten-carbide for micro injection or compression molding core, the investigation on micro cutting characteristics of tungsten-carbide green part which is made by powder injection molding process and easy to cut relatively was performed. For this, micro endmilling experiments of tungsten-carbide green part were performed according to various cutting conditions. Finally, the wear trend of micro endmill and the appearance of micro rib according to feed-rate and cutting depth per step were analyzed through SEM images of micro cutting feature and microscope images of micro tools.
In this paper Research development about a micro metal forming manufacturing system has been developed. A micro forming system has been achieved in Japan and it's developed micro press is limited to single forming process. To coincide with the purpose to be more practical, research and development is necessary about the press which the multi forming process is possible. We set the development of the equipment including micro deep drawing, micro punching and micro restriking process to the goal. To achieve this goal, Research about micro forming process to be related to multi process forming must be preceded first. Material selection and analysis about micro forming process are accomplished in this paper. And the basis research to make actual system is accomplished.
Microarray data includes tens of thousands of gene expressions simultaneously, so it can be effectively used in identifying the phenotypes of diseases. However, the retrieval of functional information from a large corpus of gene expression data is still a time-consuming task. In this paper, we propose an efficient method for identifying functional categories of differentially expressed genes from a micro-array experiment by using Gene Ontology (GO). Our method is as follows: (1) The expression data set is first filtered to include only genes with mean expression values that differ by at least 3-fold between the two groups. (2) The genes are then ranked based on the t-statistics. The 100 most highly ranked genes are selected as informative genes. (3) The t-value of each informative gene is imposed as a score on the associated GO terms. High-scoring GO terms are then listed with their associated genes and represent the functional category information of the micro-array experiment. A system called HMDA (Hallym Micro-array Data analysis) is implemented on publicly available micro-array data sets and validated. Our results were also compared with the original analysis.
The present study examines the micro-pattern replication on a plastic film using ultrasonic imprinting. Ultrasonic imprinting uses ultrasonic waves to generate repetitive microscale deformation in the polymer film. The resulting deformation heat on the surface of the film causes the surface region to soften sufficiently so that a replication of the micro-pattern can be obtained. To successfully replicate the micro-pattern on a large area of polymer film, a high replication ratio is needed as well as good uniformity over the entire region. In this study, a horn design is investigated by finite element analysis and is optimized through a response surface analysis. In the ultrasonic imprinting experiments, the response surface method was also used to determine the optimal processing conditions for better replication characteristics.
In this paper we present the multi-agent robot system and the vision system developed for participating in micro robot soccer tournament. The multi-agent robot system consists of micro robot, a vision system, a host computer and a communication module. Micro robot are equipped with two mini DC motors witf encoders and gearboxes, a R/F receiver, a CPU and infrared sensors for obstacle detection. A vision system is used to recognize the position of the ball and opponent robots, position and orientation of our robots. The vision system is composed of a color CCD camera and a vision processing unit(AISI vision computer). The vision algorithm is based on morphological method. And it takes about 90 msec to detect ball and 3-our robots and 3-opponent robots with reasonable accuracy

We newly designed and manufactured a new arranging system for a three-dimensional artificial crystal of monosized micro particles. In this system, a robotic micro-manipulator accurately locates the spherical particle onto the lattice point, and subsequently fiber lasers micro-weld the contact points between the neighboring particles. Actually, one- and two-dimensional arrays were constructed using monosized tin particles with the diameter of 400 m. Moreover, due to optimization of the process parameters, we successfully constructed the artificial crystals of simple cubic and diamond structures. In particular, the diamond structure which can represent a large photonic band gap is expected to progress toward a practical photonic crystal device.

We report on the growth and characterization of the nano- and micro scale GaN structures selectively grown on the vertex of GaN stripes using the metal organic vapor phase epitaxy method and conventional photolithography technique. The triangular shaped nano- and micro GaN structures which have semi-polar {11-22} facets were formed only on the vertex of the lower GaN stripes. Crystalline defects reduction was observed by transmission electron microscopy for upper GaN stripes. We also have grown the InGaN/GaN multi-quantum well structures on the semi-polar facets of the upper GaN stripes. Cathodoluminescence images were taken at 366, 412 and 555 nm related to GaN band edge, InGaN/GaN layer and defects, respectively.
