  • In this paper we represented electroplating process without seed layers for making metal micro structures needed for applying terminal voltage for one-to-one cell fusion system. In this system, we need thick insulator and metal structures because the diameter of a cell is approximately $40{\mu}m$. So, we adopted the photo-sensitive polyimide as electroplating molds and structural material. Generally, the processes utilizing the photo-sensitive polyimide as molds have metal seed layers on the substrate as electroplating electrodes and requires wiring tasks to these seed layers. We proposed electroplating process without any seed layer on the Si-substrate and simulated P-N-P (electrode - Si substrate - electrode) junction on N-type silicon substrate. Leakage current from one metal structure to another which arise when terminal voltage is applied can be remarkably decreased by doping Boron in the region to be electroplated.

Nano-Scale Cu Direct Bonding Technology Using Ultra-High Density, Fine Size Cu Nano-Pillar (CNP) for Exascale 2.5D/3D Integrated System

  • We propose nano-scale Cu direct bonding technology using ultra-high density Cu nano-pillar (CNP) with for high stacking yield exascale 2.5D/3D integration. We clarified the joining mechanism of nano-scale Cu direct bonding using CNP. Nano-scale Cu pillar easily bond with Cu electrode by re-crystallization of CNP due to the solid phase diffusion and by morphology change of CNP to minimize interfacial energy at relatively lower temperature and pressure compared to conventional micro-scale Cu direct bonding. We confirmed for the first time that 4.3 million electrodes per die are successfully connected in series with the joining yield of 100%. The joining resistance of CNP bundle with $80{\mu}m$ height is around 30 m for each pair of $10{\mu}m$ dia. electrode. Capacitance value of CNP bundle with $3{\mu}m$ length and $80{\mu}m$ height is around 0.6fF. Eye-diagram pattern shows no degradation even at 10Gbps data rate after the lamination of anisotropic conductive film.

  • This research is the development of a skin-type tactile sensor for service robot using PVDF film for the detection of the contact state. The Prototype of the tactile sensor which has 8$\times$8 taxels was fabricated using PVDF film In the fabrication procedure of the sensor, the electrode patterns and common electrode of the thin conductive tape were attached to the both side of the 28 micro meter thickness PVDF film using conductive adhesive. The sensor was covered with polyester film for insulation and attached to the rubber base for making stable structure. The signals of a contact pressure to the tactile sensor were sensed and processed in the DSP system in which the signals were digitized and filtered. Finally, the signals were integrated for taking the force profile. The processed signals of the output of the sensor were visualized in PC, the shape and force distribution of the contact object were obtained. The reasonable performance for the detection of contact state was verified through the experiment.

마이크로 채널 내 유도-전하 전기삼투에 의한 혼합 (Mixing in a Microchannel by using Induced-charge Electro-osmosis)

  • This paper presents an experimental study on the performance of a micro-mixer using AC electro-osmotic flow. The microchannel is made of PDMS for the side and top walls and glass patterned with ITO for the bottom wall. We first investigated the effect of the applied potential as well as the frequency on the slip velocity. We have found that the slip velocity is roughly proportional to the applied voltage in line with the Helmholtz-Smoluchowski equation and there is an optimum frequency at which the slip velocity becomes maximized. To find the optimum parameters for mixing device we tested our device for various design parameters. It turned out that the best mixing effect is obtained approximately when the electrode angle is $30^{\circ}$, electrode width $200\;{\mu}m$, and the frequency of power supply 700 Hz.

비정질 실리콘 박막의 주울 가열 유도 결정화 공정 중 발생하는 Arc-Instability 기구 규명 및 방지책

  • 최근 차세대 평판 디스플레이의 응용에 많은 주목을 받고 있는 AMOLED의 경우 전류구동 방식이기 때문에 a-Si TFT 보다는 LTPS-TFT가 요구되며, 대면적 기판에서의 결정립 크기의 균일도가 매우 중요한 인자이다. 비정질 실리콘 박막 상부 혹은 하부에 도전층을 개재하고, 상기도전층에 전계를 인가하여 그것의 주울 가열에 의해 발생한 고열에 의해 비정질 실리콘 박막을 급속 고온 고상 결정화하는 방법에 관한 기술인 JIC (Joule-heating Induced Crystallization) 결정화 공정은 기판 전체를 한번에 결정화 하는 방법이다. JIC 결정화 공정에 의하여 제조된 JIC poly-Si은 결정립 크기의 균일성이 우수하며 상온에서 수 micro-second내에 결정화를 수행하는 것이 가능하고 공정적인 측면에서도 별도의 열처리 Chamber가 필요하지 않는 장점을 가지고 있다. 그러나 고온 고속 열처리 방법인 JIC 결정화 공정을 수행 하면 Arc에 의하여 시편이 파괴되는 현상이 발견되었다. 본 연구에서는 Arc현상의 원인을 파악하기 위해 전압 인가 조건 및 시편 구조 조건을 변수로 결정화실험을 진행하였다. ARC가 발생하는 Si층과 Electrode 계면을 식각 분리하여 Electrode와 Si층 사이의 계면이 형성되지 않는 조건에서 전계를 인가하는 실험을 통하여 JIC 결정화 공정 중 고온에 도달하게 되면, a-Si층이 변형되어 형성된 poly-Si층이 전도성을 띄게 되고 인가된 전압이 도전층과 Poly-Si 사이에 위치한 $SiO_2$의 절연파괴(Dielectric breakdown)전압보다 높을 경우 전압 인가 방향에 수직으로 $SiO_2$가 절연 파괴되며 면저항 형태의 전도층의 단락이 진행되며 전도층이 완전히 단락되는 순간 Arc가 발생한다는 것을 관찰 할 수 있었다. 본 실험의 연구 결과를 바탕으로 Arc 발생을 방지하는 다양한 구조의 Equi-Potential 방법이 개발되었다.

  • In this study, for the establishment of the performance evaluation methods of repair material and method for reinforced concrete structure and the quality control standards of durability recovery method, the quantitative exposure data by exposure experiment under the coastal and normal atmosphere environment is accumulated and analyzed. Investigating and evaluating the result of exposure experiment during 54 months of exposure age under the coastal and normal atmosphere environment, Micro crack, swelling and spatting of surface coating material, crack of repair boundary parts and the great potential difference between repair part and non-repair part were somewhat generated. And the result shown that exposure specimen of coastal environment had lower electrode potential than exposure specimen of normal atmosphere environment.

  • Ni/YSZ $(Y_2O_3-stabilized\;ZrO_2)$ composite as an electrode component for High Temperature Electrolysis (HTE) was fabricated by mechanical alloying method using Ni and YSZ powders. Characterization of the synthesized composite was investigated with various analysis tools, including XRD, SEM and PSA, and a self-supporting planar unit cell prepared with the Ni/YSZ composite was prepared to study the electrochemical reactions for the production of hydrogen. The Ni/YSZ cermet is composed of crystalline Ni and YSZ, in a sub-micro scale, and has an even distribution without aggregated particles. In addition, under an electrochemical reaction, the unit cell showed an $H_2$ evolution rate from steam of 14 Nml/min and $600mA/cm^2$ of current density at the electrode.

Characterization of a Micro-Laser-Plasma Electrostatic-Acceleration Hybrid-Thruster

  • As one of the concepts of the laser/electric hybrid propulsion system, a feasibility study on possibilities of electrostatic acceleration of a laser ablation plasma induced from a solid target was conducted. Energy distributions of accelerated ions were measured by a Faraday cup. A time-of-flight measurement was also conducted for ion velocity measurement. It was found that an average speed of ions from a pure laser ablation in this case was about 20 km/sec for pulse energy of 40 $\mu$J/pulse with pulse width of 250 psec. On the other hand, through an electrostatic field with a + I ,000 V electrode, the speed could be accelerated up to 40 km/sec. It was shown that the electrode with positive potential was more effective than that with negative potential for positive-ion acceleration in laser induced plasma, or pulsed plasma, in which ions were induced with the Coulomb explosion following electrons. In addition, the ion-acceleration or deceleration strongly depended on conditions of pairs of inner diameter and electrodes gap.

  • The phenomenon of water tree degradation of underground distribution power cables is taking place in polymeric insulation materials under the existence of water and application of electric stress, but water tree is not easy to observe, o water tree features in power cables are shown after cutting and dying with methyleneblue. In previous method, it is impossible to acquire continuous treeing data, and when the insulation material has been cut, the micro crack(water tree) has been damaged. In this paper, to overcome these deflects, the etching method is made use of making needle electrode about 170[${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$] diameter, and AgNO$_3$(silver nitrate) solution is used as liquid electrode to accelerate the growth of water trees. As a result of this study, water tree is observed in real-time with microscope. Electrical tree owing to water treeing is initiated at low electric field and grown with discontinuous. Namely, water tree is shown up a different characteristics of tree growth.

  • This paper presents flexible electrocardiography(ECG) sensors using micro electro mechanical systems(MEMS) and flexible printed circuit(FPC) technology. By using FPC technology, ECG sensors which consisted of an outer hook-shaped electrode and an inner circular-shaped electrode were fabricated on the polyimide substrate. Thereafter, the bipolar ECG sensor was miniaturized using MEMS technology. The ECG measurement capability was examined by attaching the sensor to the human chest and wrist. Performance of the proposed sensors was then compared with ECG measured by commercial Ag/AgCl electrodes. It was verified that ECG could be measured using proposed sensors at only single body.
