  • In the present study, diffusion bonding was carried out between AZ31B magnesium and AA2024 aluminium in the temperature range of $405^{\circ}C$ to $475^{\circ}C$ for 15 min to 85 min and 5MPa to 20 MPa uniaxial loads was applied. Interface quality of the joints was assessed by microhardness and shear testing. Also, the bonding interfaces were analyzed by means of optical microscopy, scanning electron microscopy, energy dispersive spectrometer and XRD. The maximum bonding and shear strength was obtained at $440^{\circ}C$, 12 MPa and 70 min. The maximum hardness values were obtained from the area next to the interface in magnesium side of the joint. The hardness values were found to decrease with increasing distance from the interface in magnesium side while it remained constant in aluminium side. It was seen that the diffusion transition zone near the interface consists of various phases of $MgAl_2O_4$, $Mg_2SiO_4$ and $Al_2SiO_5$.

  • Recently, the development of construction materials is rapidly advancing. Especially, the rate of development of cement based construction materials is much quicker than steel or composite materials. In order to optimize the ductility and strength of cement based materials, Micro-mechanics based fiber concrete called Engineered Cement Composite (ECC) is developed and studied extensively by many researchers in the field. Due to ECC's remarkable flexural strain and strength capacities, many leading nation (i.e., US, Japan, and European countries) are currently using ECC in actual constructions. In this study, ECC with internationally competitive material capacities is manufactured using domestic materials. Then, unreinforced concrete beams are repaired using ECC with $10\%,\;20\%,\;30\%$ of concrete specimen height Using 4 point bending test, the flexural strength of repaired flexural members are determined. The results show that ECC manufactured with domestic materials can be effectively used for repairing materials.

  • Alkali-activated binder (AAB) is increasingly being considered as an eco-friendly and sustainable alternative to portland cement (PC). The present study evaluates 30 different AAB mixtures containing fly ash and/or slag activated by sodium hydroxide and sodium silicate by correlating their properties from micro to specimen level using regression. A model is developed to predict compressive strength of AAB as a function of volume fractions of microstructural phases (physicochemical properties) and ultrasonic pulse velocity (elastic properties and density). The predicted models are ranked and then compared with the experimental data. The correlations were found to be quite reasonable (R2 = 0.89) for all the mixtures tested and can be used to estimate the compressive strengths for similar AAB mixtures.

  • The purpose of this study is for the active use of the fly ash, which is a by-product of the combustion pulverizes coal thermal power plants, to compensate for the lack of landfill and for conservation of energy, by using fly ash as the supplementary cementitious material, and to prove its possibility as the related products of the cement. First of all, we examined strength development of Micro grinding fly ash by elevating its fineness and using $Na_{2}SO_{4}$ as an activator to elevate pozzolanic reaction of fly ash. Following fly ash replacement ratio and curing temperature we hope to prove its properties to suggest its possibility in the concrete and cement industry. In case of water curing, the more fineness and higher annexing of activator is, the higher strength is, and the higher curing temperature is the more pozzolanic reaction happens.

  • This paper is investigated the shear strength by using the micro shear-punch test method for Sn-37Pb alloy, binary and ternary alloys of environment-friendly Pb-free solder alloys which would be surely applicable to the electronic packages. As a result, in case of Max. shear strength, Sn-4Ag-0.5Cu has the highest value and Sn-37Pb has the lowest value on every condition of experiment temperature. Also, In case of Pb-free solder joint specimens, it was found that Pb-free solder alloys have higher value of shear strength than eutectic Sn-Pb solder alloy and Sn-4Ag-0.5Cu has the highest value.

  • In this paper, we present surface treatments for achieving bonds between PMMA and PDMS substrates. Silane primer is used for the formation of hydroxyl group on PMMA surfaces. The formed hydroxyl groups enhance the bonding strength of PDMS-PMMA substrates without channel clogging and structure deformation. The bonding strength on the different surface treatments (include oxygen plasma, 3-APTES, and corona discharge) is evaluated to find optimal bonding condition. The maximum bonding strength at the optimal surface treatment is over 300 kPa. The surface treatment using silane primer can be used to the bonding process of Micro-TAS and Lab-on-a-Chip.

  • Recently, HIPS(High Impact Polystyrene) materials are spot-lighted as office equipment, home electronics, electronics appliances housing, packing containers, etc. But its using are occur to problem caused by fatigue fracture. However, its strength is larged affected by environmental conditions. So, in this paper it tried to analyze the effect of temperature by tensile test and fatigue test. It was observed that yield strength and ultimate strength, fatigue life of same stress decreased relatively with increase temperature. Further, this paper predict S-N curve using the result of tensile test and micro vickers hardness test. For this purpose, the management in the engineering department is able to design the fatigue life of HIPS(HR-1360) materials.

  • The present paper is aiming at the evaluation for failure mechanisms and static strength of brazed joints used in household electronics. For these purposes, the failure analysis was performed on the various brazed joints, through the bursting, the micro-Victors hardness tests and 3-dimensional X-ray technique. The failure modes of brazed joints were classified into two different types, based on the results of bursting pressure test by means of self-designed internal-pressure testing machine. Their failure mechanism was dependent on the relationship between heat effect occurred in manufacturing process and internal flaws such as incomplete penetration and pin hole. Also, a finite element analysis was performed to evaluate the stress distribution with respect to the heat and the internal flaws.

  • Dental ceramics is well known to have excellent esthetics, biocompatibility as well as high compressive strength. However, the fragility of ceramics against tensile and shear loads leading to the delayed fracture of micro crack on ceramic surface and the backwardness of ceramic fabrication technique limit the usage of ceramic materials in dentistry. Among all ceramic materials, zirconia has been introduced to overcome the drawback of conventional dental ceramics in the field of dentistry due to the nature of zirconia featuring proper opalescence and high fracture toughness. Also, novel manufacturing techniques enable ceramic materials to prepare high esthetic anterior and posterior all ceramic system. In this paper, it is introduced and discussed that novel techniques characterizing the bond strength between zirconia core and veneering ceramics and analyzing the fluorescence of dental ceramics in order to overcome the gap between the results of basic research and the feasibility of the results in the field of dental clinics.

  • A miniature single solder ball joint is designed to mimic the actual solder joints used in the micro-electric industries. Shear tests were conducted to evaluate the mechanical behavior of miniature single solder joints at intermediate strain rates from $0.019\;s^{-1}$ to $2.16\;s^{-1}$ at room temperature. The shear fracture strength of the present solder ball joints generally increased with increasing shear strain rate, ranging from 32 to 51MPa. This behavior is affected by the sensitivity of bulk solder strength to strain rate. Shear fracture mode changed from brittle to partial ductile (failure inside the bulk solder) with an increase of shear speed. The unloading shear fracture toughness is generally consistent with the measure of the amount of bulk solder on the fractured surface.
