The effect of the content of microsilica and nanosilica continuously modified with hydroxy silane and epoxy-modified silicone in cycloaliphatic epoxy/microsilica/nanosilica composites (EMNCs) on the mechanical and water repellent properties was evaluated. Surface-modified micro- and nanosilica was well-mixed with a cycloaliphatic epoxy resin in the presence of polyester-modified polydimethylsiloxane (PEM-PDMS) as a dispersing agent using an ultrasonicator. Tensile and flexural tests were carried out using a universal testing machine (UTM). The water repellent property was evaluated by contact angle measurements of water on the composite surface. Tensile strength of the composite could be enhanced by 32.2% up to 91.4 MPa, and the flexural strength was raised to 122.0 MPa, which is 38.8% higher than that of neat epoxy. The contact angle of water on the composite was as high as $104.1^{\circ}$.

Purpose: To evaluate marginal leakage of bulk fill flowable composite resin filling with different curing time by using microcomputed tomography technology. Materials and Methods: 30 previously extracted human molars were randomly divided into 6 groups based upon restorative system and different curing time. Class II cavities (vertical slot cavities) were prepared. An individual metallic matrix was used to build up the proximal wall. The SonicFill or SureFil SDR flow was inserted into the preparation by using 1 bulk increment, followed by light polymerization for different curing times. The different exposure times were 20, 40, and 60 seconds. All specimens were submitted to 5,000 thermal cycles for artificial aging. Micro-CT scanning was performed by using SkyScan 1272. One evaluator assessed microleakage of silver nitrated solution at the resin-dentin interface. The 3D image of each leakage around the restoration was reconstructed with CT-Analyser V.1.14.4. The leakage was analyzed with the Mann-Whitney test. Results: Significant differences were observed between the light curing times, but no significant differences were found between the bulk fill composite resins. Increasing in the photoactivation time resulted in greater microleakage in all the experimental groups. Those subjected to 60 seconds of light curing showed higher microleakage means than those exposed for 20 seconds and 40 seconds. Conclusion: Increasing the photoactivation time is factor that may increase marginal microlekage of the bulk fill composite resins. Further, micro-CT can nondestructively detect leakage around the resin composite restoration in three dimensions.
The electrospinning process was established as a promising method to fabricate nano and micro-textured scaffolds for tissue engineering applications. A BCP-loaded PCL micro-textured scaffold thus can be a viable option. The biocompatibility as well as the mechanical properties of such scaffold materials should be optimized for this purpose. In this study, a composite scaffold of poly ($\varepsilon$-caprolactone) (PCL)-biphase calcium phosphate (BCP) was successfully fabricated by electrospinning. EDS and XRD data show successful loading of BCP nano particles in the PCL fibers. Morphological characterization of fibers shows that with a higher loaded BCP content the fiber surface was rougher and the diameter was approximately 1 to 7 ${\mu}m$. Tensile modulus and ultimate tensile stress reached their highest values in the PCL- 10 wt% BCP composite. When content of nano ceramic particles was low, they were dispersed in the fibers as reinforcements for the polymer matrix. However, at a high content of ceramic particles, the particles tend to agglomerate and lead to decreasing tensile modulus and ultimate stress of the PCL-BCP composite mats. Therefore, the use of nano BCP content for distribution in fiber polymer using BCP for reinforcement is limited. Tensile strain decreased with increasing content of BCP loading. From in vitro study using MG-63 osteoblast cells and L-929 fibroblast like cells, it was confirmed that electrospun PCL-BCP composite mats were biocompatible and that spreading behavior was good. As BCP content increased, the area of cell spreading on the surface of the mats also increased. Cells showed the best adherence on the surface of composite mats at 50 wt% BCP for both L-929 fibroblast-like cells and MG-63 osteoblast cell. PCL- BCP composites are a promising material for application in bone scaffolds.
Polyurethane foam (PUF) can be manufactured in soft, semi-rigid, and hard forms, so it is used in various fields industrially. Among them, rigid PUF has excellent mechanical properties and low thermal conductivity, and is used as a thermal insulation material for buildings and as a cold insulation material in the natural gas transportation field. In this field, there is a steady demand on higher mechanical strength and lower thermal conductivity. In this study, a rigid PUF was manufactured, and the microstructure and physical properties were studied according to the impeller type (propeller, dispersed turbine) of the agitator. Through FE-SEM and Micro-CT analysis, it was confirmed that the average pore size of the foam manufactured with the dispersed turbine was 21.5% smaller than that of the pore made by the propeller. The compressive strength was improved by 15.4%, and the thermal conductivity decreased by 3.1% in the foam with small pores. This result can be utilized for fabricating PUF composites.

In this paper, various kinds of epoxy based nanocomposites were made and AC breakdown properties of nano-$TiO_2$ and micro-silica filler mixture of epoxy based composites were studied by sphere to sphere electrode. Moreover, nano- and micro-filler combinations were adopted as an approach toward practical application of nanocomposite insulating materials. AC breakdown test was performed at room temperature $(25^{\circ}C)$, $80^{\circ}C$ and $100^{\circ}C$. The result shows breakdown strength about non-filled, nano-scale $TiO_2$, micro-scale silica and nano-$TiO_2$, micro-silica filled epoxy composites.
This work investigates a novel plate formulation and a modified couple stress theory that introduces a variable length scale parameter is presented to discuss the static and dynamic of functionally graded (FG) micro-plates. A new type of third-order shear deformation theory of Reddy that use only 4 unknowns by including undetermined integral variables is proposed in this study. The equations of motion are derived from Hamilton's principle. Analytical solutions are obtained for a simply supported micro-plate. Numerical examples are presented to examine the effect of the length scale parameter on the responses of micro-plates. The obtained results are compared with the previously published results to demonstrate the correctness of the present formulation.
In this paper, wave propagation of double-bonded Cooper-Naghdi micro sandwich cylindrical shells with porous core and carbon nanotube reinforced composite (CNTRC) face sheets are investigated subjected to multi-physical loadings with temperature dependent material properties. The governing equations of motion are derived by Hamilton's principle. Then, the influences of various parameters such as wave number, CNT volume fraction, temperature change, Skempton coefficient, material length scale parameter, porosity coefficient on the phase velocity of double-bonded micro sandwich shell are taken into account. It is seen that by increasing of Skempton coefficient, the phase velocity decreases for higher wave number and the results become approximately the constant. Also, by increasing of the material length scale parameter, the cut of frequency increases, because the stiffness of micro structure increases. The obtained results for this article can be used to detect, locate and quantify crack.

This paper focuses on thermal properties of a newly prepared composite material by nano-silica and micro-silica mixture. Nano-silica and micro-silica mixture composites were made by dispersing surface treated nano-silica(average radius: 10 nm) and micro-size silica in epoxy resin. To investigate the effects of nano-silica and micro-size silica mixture(ENMC), the glass transition temperature (Tg), coefficients of thermal expansion(CTE) and elastic modulus of DMA properties by DSC, TMA and DMA devices were measured for the ENMC according to increase nano-silica addition contents and EMC. All properties of the neat epoxy were improved by the addition of micro-silica, which was improved much further by the addition of surface treated nano-silica to the EMC system.
In the present study, microstructure-dependent static stability analysis of inhomogeneous tapered micro-columns is performed. It is considered that the micro column is made of functionally graded materials and has a variable cross-section. The material and geometrical properties of micro column vary continuously throughout the axial direction. Euler-Bernoulli beam and modified couple stress theories are used to model the nonhomogeneous micro column with variable cross section. Rayleigh-Ritz solution method is implemented to obtain the critical buckling loads for various parameters. A detailed parametric study is performed to examine the influences of taper ratio, material gradation, length scale parameter, and boundary conditions. The validity of the present results is demonstrated by comparing them with some related results available in the literature. It can be emphasized that the size-dependency on the critical buckling loads is more prominent for bigger length scale parameter-to-thickness ratio and changes in the material gradation and taper ratio affect significantly the values of critical buckling loads.
This paper aims to correlate the micro-mechanical behaviour of tow geometry with applied in-plane forces during deformation of dry woven carbon-fibre fabric. These in-plane forces lead to differences in tow reorganisation during deformation and so changes in the way in which 'lock-up' occurs. In this paper, deformation of micro-mechanical parameters such as tow interval, crimp angle, change in tow amplitude and wavelength are investigated. To observe the micro-deformation of the fabric structure, appropriate specimens from bias extension and biaxial tests are sectioned and observed under the microscope. It was found that different loading conditions cause geometric deferences in the tow architecture. The variation in deformed tow geometry with shear angle is fitted using a simple parametric model.
