Synthesis of Some Pyridine and Dihydropyridine Derivatives from 7-Hydroxy-8-Methoxyl-2-Oxo-2H-1-Benzopyran-6-Carboxaldehyde

  • The Hantzsh reaction of 7-hydroxy-8-methoxy-2-oxo-2H-benzopyran-6-carboxaldehyde (1) with ethyl acetoacetate and ammonia yields the dihydropyridine derivative 2 together with the pyridine derivative 3 and the eight membred ring derivative 4. Reaction of 1 with ethyl cyanoacetate and malononitrile gives the iminodicoumarin derivatives 5 and 6 respectiely. The latter compound was reacted with butan-2-one and acetophenone to produce the Michael adduct 71, b and the 2-aminopyridine derivatives 8a, b.

Strategic focus for substantial rewards

  • Due principally to the desire to seek lower production costs, the bulk of the world's textile and clothing manufacture migrated to low-cost zones, mainly outside Europe, over the course of the late-twentieth century. In the early-twenty-first century, fast fashion became a dominant force worldwide, with 'Western' retail buyers hunting cheaper deals from clothing manufacturers (mainly in Asia), and with occasional disasters not changing matters beyond the duration of a fashion season. Progressively, seams became narrower, cheaper raw materials were used and durability was no longer an aim. Why bother to do otherwise? This was what the 'Western' consumer wanted: fashion to be worn only a few times and then discarded, despite the fact that vast amounts of human, technological and financial resources were wasted in such a quest. By the end of the second decade of the twenty-first century, the production of textile and clothing products continued to contribute substantially to global warming. This paper reviews briefly the current conditions of manufacture, and argues that the research agenda should be focused on addressing the implications of a progressively changed focus, not on fast-fashion products, but instead on the production of products with greater durability. Meanwhile 'Western' consumers need to turn away from fast fashion and realise that waste is bad for their economy and their society. It is argued further, that after a period of re-adjustment, substantial financial rewards await the national textile and clothing industries that undergo such a turn around.

  • 4,5-Dihydro-6-(4-methoxy-3-methylphenyl)-3(2H)-pyridazinone derivative계 화합물의 합성연구를 수행하였다. 첫 번째로, 4,5-dihydro-6-(4-methoxy-3-methylphenyl)-3(2H)-pyridazinone (1)은 o-cresyl methyl ether와 succinic anhydride를 Friedel-Crafts 아실화 반응을 통하여 얻은 다음에, 고리화 반응을 통하여 합성하였다. 얻어진 화합물 1을, NaOEt조건 하에서, 방향족 알데히드와 반응시켜서 4-substituted benzyl pyridazinones (3a-d)을 합성하였으며, 화합물 1을 탈수소화반응을 시켜서 화합물 4를 얻었다. 한편 pyridazine 5는 화합물 1과 1,3-diphenyl-2-propen-1-one을 Michael 첨가반응을 이용하여 합성하였다. N-Dialkylaminomethyl 화합물 6a-b는 pyridazinone 1과 formaldehyde 및 2차 amine을 바능시켜서 얻은 반면에, 화합물 7은 pyridazinone 1을 반응시켜서 얻었으며, 화합물 8은 pyridazinone 3b를 phosphorus oxychloride 와 반응시켜서 얻었다.

Fast, ethical and sustainable - The challenge for twenty-first century fashion producers -

  • It is recognized that the global apparel market of the twenty-first century is largely profit driven, and that the majority of producers and retailers have sourced products from the lowest cost locations. Purchase tickets of fashion goods available from 'fast' fashion retailers (at least within the UK) refrain from providing the consumer with details of the full circumstances of production. It seems that the majority of major retailers and producers are not willing to engage in levels of self-regulation which could ensure that the products offered to consumers are ethically produced and offer acceptable levels of sustainability. Meanwhile many fashion consumers have the desire to purchase sustainable products, produced ethically by workers paid fair wages in safe working environments. Consumer demand could be a powerful tool to adjust the behaviour of manufacturers and buyers. This paper proposes the introduction of international legislation demanding greater degrees of transparency than exist currently and that the full sourcing and production details of fashion products are stated clearly on the product's purchase ticket within its retail setting. With the introduction of such legislation, consumers could thus be given the opportunity of purchasing goods which they feel accommodate their own views on ethical manufacture and sustainable products. In turn, consumer pressure could ensure indirectly that retail buyers consider all ethical and sustainable aspects of production when negotiating with garment producers/suppliers. Further to this, such a negotiating stance could ensure the improvement of the terms and conditions of employment of the numerous garment workers worldwide.

Hypoglycemic Effect of Exo- and Endo-biopolymers Produced by Submerged Mycelial Culture of Ganoderma lucidum in Streptozotocin-Induced Diabetic Rats

  • The hypoglycemic effect of an exo-biopolymer (EXO) and endo-biopolymer (ENDO) produced from submerged mycelial culture of Ganoderma lucidum was investigated in streptozotocin (STZ)-induced diabetic rats. Both the EXO and ENDO showed hypoglycemic potential, however, the former proved to be more potent than the latter. The administration of the EXO at the dose of 100 mg/kg body weight (BW) significantly reduced the plasma glucose level (23.5%) and increased the plasma insulin level (2.2 fold) in the diabetic animals. The EXO also lowered the plasma total cholesterol, triglyceride, low-density lipoprotein (LDL) cholesterol, and athrogenic index by 14.7, 31.4, 24.1, and 45.4%, respectively, and reduced the liver total cholesterol and triglyceride levels by 6.7 and 25.8%, respectively. It increased the plasma high-density lipoprotein (HDL) cholesterol (37.7%), compared to the control group. Furthermore, the alanine transaminase (ALT) and aspartate transaminase (AST) showed lower activities in the EXO administered groups than the other experimental groups. Taken together, these results suggest that the exo-biopolymer may alleviate the blood glucose level by increased insulin secretion.

위성기반 Climate Hazards Group InfraRed Precipitation with Station (CHIRPS)를 활용한 한반도 지역의 기상학적 가뭄지수 적용 (Application of Meteorological Drought Index using Climate Hazards Group InfraRed Precipitation with Station (CHIRPS) Based on Global Satellite-Assisted Precipitation Products in Korea)

  • Remote sensing products have long been used to monitor and forecast natural disasters. Satellite-derived rainfall products are becoming more accurate as space and time resolution improve, and are widely used in areas where measurement is difficult because of the periodic accumulation of images in large areas. In the case of North Korea, there is a limit to the estimation of precipitation for unmeasured areas due to the limited accessibility and quality of statistical data. CHIRPS (Climate Hazards Group InfraRed Precipitation with Stations) is global satellite-derived rainfall data of 0.05 degree grid resolution. It has been available since 1981 from USAID (U.S. Agency for International Development), NASA (National Aeronautics and Space Administration), NOAA (National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration). This study evaluates the applicability of CHIRPS rainfall products for South Korea and North Korea by comparing CHIRPS data with ground observation data, and analyzing temporal and spatial drought trends using the Standardized Precipitation Index (SPI), a meteorological drought index available through CHIRPS. The results indicate that the data set performed well in assessing drought years (1994, 2000, 2015 and 2017). Overall, this study concludes that CHIRPS is a valuable tool for using data to estimate precipitation and drought monitoring in Korea.

파라미터 네트워크 기반의 워크플로를 적용한 제품의 설계 변경 (Engineering Change of Products Using Workflow Management Based on the Parameters Network)

  • The amount of information increases rapidly when working in a distributed environment where multiple collaborative partners work together on a complex product. Today's PDM (product data management) systems provide good capabilities regarding the management of product data within a single company. However, taking into account the variety of systems used at partner sites in an engineering environment one can easily imagine problems regarding the interoperability and the data consistency. This paper presents a concept to improve the workflow management using the parameters network. It shows a parameter driven engineering workflow that is able to manage engineering task across company boarders. We introduce a mechanism of workflow management based on the engineering parameters and an architecture of the distributed workspace to apply it within a PDM system. For a parameter mapping between CAD and PDM system we developed an XML-based CATIA data interface module using CAA.

Maximizing the Efficiency Lifetime Product for Phosphorescent OLEDs

  • Great strides in organic light emitting device (OLED) technology have resulted in a number of commercial products. To continue this growth into large area displays, for example televisions, an understanding of the mechanisms that drive the OLED device efficiency and lifetime performance is critical. In this work, we consider maximizing the efficiency lifetime product based on phosphorescent OLED ($PHOLED^{TM}$) technology. We report green PHOLEDs with luminous efficiency of 82 cd/A, 5.7 V and 10,000 hours lifetime at 1,000 cd/$m^2$,red PHOLEDs with CIE of (0.67,0.33), 11 cd/A and 35,000 hours lifetime at 500 cd/$m^2$ and recent progress in blue demonstrating efficiencies of 18 cd/A at 200 cd/$m^2$.

Effect of fiber content on flexural properties of fishnet/GFRP hybrid composites

  • In the present paper, glass fibers are substituted partially with monofilament fishnet and polyester matrix for making the composites. The composite specimens were prepared in accordance with ASTM for analyzing the flexural strength and dynamic mechanical properties. Furthermore, machinability revealed the interaction of glass fiber and partial substituted monofilament fishnet fiber with the matrix. Fiber pullouts on the fractured specimen during the physical testing of the composites are also investigated by COSLAB microscope. The results reveal that the fishnet based composites have appreciably higher flexural properties. Furthermore, the glass fiber, woven roving and fishnet composite has more storage modulus and significant mechanical damping. The composite specimens were fabricated by hand lay-up method. Hence, these composites are the possible applications to develop the value added products. The results of this study are presented.

식육내 비타민 E에 의한 육색소와 지질의 산화 안정성 향상 (Improvement of Oxidative Stability of Myoglobin and Lipid with Vitamin E in Meat)

  • 비타민 E에 의한 육색소의 산화 안정성 향상 기작을 정리하였다. 지용성 산화제인 $\alpha$-토코페롤이 수용성 단백질인 옥시마이오글로빈을 보호하는 원리가 밝혀지고 있다. 최근의 연구들에서 $\alpha$-토코페롤이 세포막 지방산화의 2차 산화물들의 방출을 지연시켜 옥시마이오글로빈 산화를 억제시키고 식육의 바람직한 육색을 유지시킨다는 증거가 제시되고 있다. 지방산화물의 한 그룹인 $\alpha$,$\beta$-분포화 알데하이드들은 단백질과 서로 결합하는 역할을 하여 옥시마이오글로빈의 산화를 증진시키는 것으로 밝혀졌다. 만약 $\alpha$-토코페롤이 이런 활동적인 알데하이드들의 발생을 지연시킨다면 이런 지방산화물들이 옥시마이오글로빈의 산화에 미치는 영향도 억제될 것이다. 또한$\alpha$-토코페롤은 메트마이오글로빈의 환원에 작용하여 쇠고기의 육색 안정성 유지에 일정부분 역할을 담당하는 것으로 사료된다.
