산소 플라즈마 처리후의 이차전자방출계수(γ)를 이용한 MgO 보호막의 일함수(φW) 변화 (Work Function Changes on MgO Protective Layer after O2plasma Treatment from Ion-induced Secondary Electron Emission Coefficient)

  • The changes in secondary electron emission coefficient(${\gamma}$) and work function($\Phi$$_{\omega}$) have been studied on the surface of MgO protective layer aster plasma(Ar. $O_2$) treatment using ${\gamma}$-focused ion beam (${\gamma}$-FIB) system. The values of ${\gamma}$ varied as follows: $O_2$-treated MgO > Ar-treated MgO > Non-treated MgO, and the work functions varied in the reverse order. The result indicates that both the physical etching and the chemical reaction of $O_2$-plasma removed the contaminating materials from the surface of MgO.

  • The secondary electron emission coefficient (${\gamma}$) of the cathode is an important factor for improving the discharge characteristics of AC-PDP, because of its close relationship to discharge voltage. In this experiment, we have investigated the electronic structure of the energy band in the MgO layer responsible for the high ${\gamma}$. We used three kinds of MgO pellet that have another component, and each MgO layers have been deposited by electron beam evaporation method. The work-functions of MgO layer have been investigated from their ion-induced secondary electron emission coefficient (${\gamma}$), respectively, using various ions with different ionization energies in a ${\gamma}-FIB$ (Focused Ion Beam) system. We have compared work-function with ${\gamma}-FIB$ system current signal for measurement defect energy level in MgO layer. MgO-A in the three types has lowest work-function value (4.12eV) and there are two defect energy levels.

경사증착법을 이용한 PM-OLED용 무기박막형 보호층 연구 (Study on the MgO Passivated PM-OLED using the Tilt & Rotate Technique)

  • In this study, the MgO thin-film passivation layer was adopted to protect passive matrix organic light emitting diode(PMOLED) with the cathode separator from moisture and oxygen. Using the substrate rotate and tilt technique during the deposition, the organic and cathode layers were perfectly covered with MgO. And then, we analyzed the difference of the current-voltage and luminescence characteristics between passivated OLED of the MgO and non-passivated OLED. It was found that the number of dark spot generated from the degradated pixel was decreased owing to the Mgo thin-film passivation layer using the tilt & rotate technique. And the half-life time passivated OLED was improved two times more. Thus, the MgO could be vaccum-deposited under the low temperature and had a merit that the organic layer was not much affected. We can consider that MgO thin film passivation method can be adopted to protect the OLED from moisture and oxygen and can offer the enhancement of lifetime.

집속이온빔을 이용한 구리 기판위에 성장한 MgO 박막의 스퍼터링 수율 (Sputtering yield of the MgO thin film grown on the Cu substrate by using the focused ion beam)

  • 전자빔 증착기를 이용하여 1000 $\AA$의 두께를 가진 MgO박막을 구리 기판위에 상온에서 증착하였다. 스퍼터링수율 측정시 MgO 층에 충전현상을 없애주기 위해서 1000 $\AA$ 두께의 Al을 증착하였다. 갈륨 액체금속을 집속이온빔 이온원으로 사용하였다. 두 개의 정전렌즈를 사용하여 이온빔을 집속하였고, MgO에 이온빔을 주사하기 위해 편향기를 사용하였다. 가속전압의 변화에 따라 시료대 전류와 이차입자 전류를 측정하였고, 이 전류값은 소스에 인가하는 가속전압에 따라 변화되었다 MgO 박막의 스퍼터링 수율은 분석된 시료대 전류, 이차입자 전류 및 순수빔 전류의 값을 사용하여 결정하였다. 집속이온빔 장치의 가속전압이 15 kV일 때 MgO 박막의 스퍼터링 수율은 0.30으로 나왔고 가속전압의 값이 증가할 때 스퍼터링 수율이 선형적으로 증가하였다. 이러한 결과를 볼 때 집속이온빔 장치를 이용하면 MgO 박막의 스퍼터링 수율을 측정할 패 매우 효과적임을 알 수 있다.

Oxygen Ion Beam Assisted Deposition법에 의해 형성된 AC PDP용 MgO 보호막의 특성 연구 (Study of a MgO Protective Layer Deposited with Oxygen Ion Beam Assisted Deposition in an AC PDP)

  • MgO layer plays an important role for plasma display panels (PDPs). In this experiment, ion beam assisted deposition (IBAD) methode was uesed to deposit a MgO thin film and the assisting oxygen ion beam energy was varied from 100 eV to 500 eV. In order to investigate the relationship between the secondary electron emission and the defect levels of the MgO layer, we measured the cathodoluminescence (CL) spectra of the MgO thin films, and we analyzed the CL peak intensity and peak transition. The results showed that the assisting ion beam energy played an important role in the peak intensity and the peak transition of the CL spectrum. The properties of MgO thin film were also analyzed using XRD and SEM, these results showed the assisting ion beam energy had direct effect on characteristics of MgO thin film.

  • Pb0.5,Sr0.5TiO3(PST) thin films were deposited on Si with MgO (100) buffer layer by the alkoxide-based sol-gel method. Structural and dielectric properties of PST thin films for the tunable microwave device applications were investigated. For the MgO/Si buffer layer, the PST thin films exhibited highly (100) orientation. The MgO buffer layer affects the stress state of the (100)-oriented PST thin films. The dielectric constant, tunability, and FOM of the highly (100)-oriented PST thin film increased with increasing annealing temperature due to the decrease in lattice distortion. The differences in dielectric properties may be attributed to the change in the film stress. The dielectric constants, dielectric loss and tunability of the PST thin films deposited on the MgO/Si substrates measured at 10 kHz were 822, 0.025, and 80.1%, respectively.

Nano-porous $Al_2O_3$ used as a protecting layer of AC Plasma Display Panel

  • Nano-porous alumina was investigated as a protecting layer in an AC Plasma Display Panel. A 2 ${\mu}m$ thick nano-porous $Al_2O_3$ layer inserted with MgO was formed on the dielectric layer instead of the conventional 500 nm-thick MgO thin film. Both nano-porous $Al_2O_3$layer and inserted MgO were prepared by wet process. The luminance and luminous efficiency of 3-inch test panel adopting nano-porous $Al_2O_3$ was higher than that of the conventional PDP.

  • This paper describes on the fabrication and characteristics of hot-film type micro-flowsensors integrated with Pt-RTD\`s and micro-heater on the Si substrate, in which MgO thin-films were used as medium layer in order to improve adhesion of Pt thin-films to SiO$_2$ layer The MgO layer improved adhesion of Pt thin-films to SiO$_2$` layer without any chemical reactions to Pt thin-films under high as gas flow rate and its conductivity increased due to increase of heat-loss from sensor to external. Output voltage was 82 mV at N2 flow rate of 2000 sccm/min, heating power of 1.2W. The respons time was about 100 msec when input flow was step-input

PDP 보호막용 MgO 박막의 저전압 특성에 미치는 알카리토금속산화물 첨가 효과 (Effect of Alkaline Earth Metal Oxides addition on the Low-voltage Characteristics of MgO Films as a Protective layer for AC PDPs)

  • Alkaline earth metal oxides were added to the conventional MgO films as a protective layer for dielectric materials to have lower firing voltage(Vf) of the plasma display panel(PDP). Panels with various protective layers of MgO-alkaline earth metal oxides were prepared on glass by using e-beam evaporation and its effect on firing voltage characteristics were investigated. (Ba-Mg)O films had poor voltage characteristics because of higher activation energy of BaO. But, (Sr-Mg)O, (Ca-Mg)O and (Ca-Sr-Mg) O had better voltage characteristics than the conventional MgO. A mixture film of (Mg-Ca-Sr)O show the lowest firing voltage which is less than that of MgO by 20V. The chemical composition to have lowest firing voltage is MgO:SrO:CaO ratio of 6:2:2. The mixture of MgO-Alkaline earth metal oxides films showed good transmittance properties within the visual range.

$Al_2O_3$/MgO 유전체 보호막의 방전특성 (Discharge Properties of $Al_2O_3$/MgO as a Dielectric Protection Layer)

  • In this paper, $Al_2$O$_3$/MgO belayer was prepared with Electron-beam evaporation and the properties of the film was investigated in order to improve the property of MgO film, which is used for the protection layer in PDP(Plasma Display Panel). $Al_2$O$_3$/MgO belayer were improved of roughness and it were condensed by annealing, and the result of XPS analysis for $Al_2$O$_3$/MgO belayer unchanged binding energy. To investigate electric characteristics, discharge properties of $Al_2$O$_3$/MgO belayer were compared with discharge minimum voltage for MgO monolayer through Ar discharge experiments.
