  • The feasibility study on conceptual design methodology for accelerator-driven sodium-cooled sub-critical transmutation reactors has been conducted to optimize the design parameters from the scale laws and validates reactor performance with the integrated code system. A 1000 MWth sodium-cooled sub-critical transmutation reactor has been scale and verified through the methodology in this paper, which is referred to advanced Liquid Metal Reactor (ALMR). a Pb-Bi target material and a partitioned fuel are the liquid phases, and they are cooled by the circulation of secondary Pb-Bi coolant and by primary sodium coolant, respectively. Overall key design parameters are generated from the scale laws and they are improved and validated by the intergrated code system. Intergrated Code System (ICS) consist of LAHET, HMCNP, ORIGEN2, and COMMIX codes and some files. Through ICS the target region, the core region, and thermal-hydraulic related are analyzed once-through. Results of conceptual design are attached in this paper.

  • As AEC(architecture, engineering and construction) industry becomes larger and more complex, much information is going into each part and phase. Therefore, the existing building design process has to change and collaboration is emphasized among participants in various fields. The purpose of this study is to compare and analyze existing building design process and integrated building design process based on BIM using a IDEF0 methodology. And then, it establishes a desirable domestic integrated building design process application plan focusing on the design phase of domestic cases. As a result of analysis, flowing conclusions are included ; Firstly, problems occur on the existing building design process that are accomplished with focusing on the outcome. It makes much errors because of 2D-based information. Another problems is that collaboration doesn't go on smoothly. But, integrated building design process is accomplished with the collaboration and the coordination which pursues change and perfects cooperation. Secondly, BIM is a process of effecting optimum integrating, re-using information, and expense reduction throughout the life-cycle of a building. Moreover, it establishes a basis for the integrated building design process to build a collaboration system.

  • A small number of countries are leading the world in the development of advanced weapon systems. In general, the access to the information on the design of advanced systems is limited. As such, when similar weapon systems need to be developed, a special methodology must be considered to catch up with both the technological and information barriers. In this paper, we study a design methodology based on the combination of the reverse engineering and the design structure matrix (DSM) approach. The methodology begins by analyzing the advanced system by reverse engineering and produces a set of design results in the form of physical architecture, functional architecture and system requirements. The design results are further enhanced by applying the DSM clustering. As a result, one can get an improved design result. As a target system, a guided missile system was considered.

  • Automotive and aircraft assembly process rely on fixtures to support and coordinate parts and subassemblies. Fixture layout in multi-station panel assemblies has a direct dimensional effect on final products and thus presents a quality problem. This paper describes a methodology for fixture layout design in multi -station assembly processes. An optimal fixture layout improves the robustness of a fixture system against environmental noises, reduces product variability, and eventually leads to manufacturing cost reduction. One of the difficulties raised by multi-station fixture layout design is the overwhelmingly large number of design alternatives. This makes it difficult to find a global optimality and, if an inefficient algorithm is used, may require prohibitive computing time. In this paper, simulated annealing is adopted and appropriate parameters are selected to find good fixture layouts. A four-station assembly process for a sport utility vehicle (SUV) side frame is used throughout the paper to illustrate the efficiency and effectiveness of this methodology.

  • In this study, the multidisciplinary aerodynamic-structural optimal design is carried out for the supersonic fighter wing. Through the aeroelastic analyses of the various candidate wings, the aerodynamic and structural performances are calculated such as the lift coefficient, the drag coefficient and the deformation of the wing. In general, the supersonic fighter is maneuvered under the various flight conditions and those conditions must be considered all together during the design process. The multi-point design, therefore, is deemed essential. For this purpose, supersonic dash, long cruise range and high angle of attack maneuver are selected as representative design points. Based on the calculated performances of the candidate wings, the response surfaces for the objectives and constraints are generated and the supersonic fighter wing is designed for better aerodynamic performances and less weights than the baseline. At each design point, the single-point design is performed to obtain better performances. Finally, the multi-point design is performed to improve the aerodynamic and structural performances for all design points. The optimization results of the multi-point design are compared with those of the single-point designs and analyzed in detail.

  • This paper proposes a novel design methodology considering transistor layout variation. The proposed design technique is to improve the transistor's electrical characteristics without performing a circuit simulation to extract transistor layout variation. There are three advantages in the proposed method. Firstly, there is no need to change the normal design flow used in layout designs. Secondly, there is no need to perform simulation in order to extract the transistor layout variation. Thirdly, early warnings in layout design lead to decreasing the number of post layout simulations. Less post layout simulations will decrease the number of iterations in the design cycle and shorten design period. The number of bad transistors in the early design phase were reduced from 17.8% to 2.9% by applying eDRC environment for layout designers to develop Standard Cell Library.

  • This paper deals with the optimum rotor design solution on torque ripple reduction for a SynRM with concentrated winding using response surface methodology (RSM). The RSM has been achieved to use the experimental design method in combination with finite element method (FEM)and well adapted to make analytical model for a complex problem considering a lot of interaction of design variables. Comparisons are given with characteristics of a SynRM according to flux barrier number, flux barrier width variation, respectively.

  • The design process of a relational database system consists of requirement analysis, conceptual design using ER diagram, logical design, and physical design. In logical design process, the conceptual schema is transformed to relational schema, and relational schema is normalized. This traditional design process is hard to applied in real database design process, since there is an ambiguity in conceptual design process. In this paper, we suggest a new design process, which provides more structural design steps by removing the conceptual design process. In new approach, we produce the data flow diagram by the structural methodology. From the attributes in the data store of data flow diagram, we construct relational table schema, and we normalize relational schema. Finally we produced table relationship diagram in order to figure out relationships between tables.

  • As information systems to be computerized get significantly scaled up, data modeling issues apparently considered to be crucial once again as the early 1980's under the terms of data governance, data architecture or data quality. Unfortuately, merely resorting to heuristics-based field approaches with more or less no firm theoretical foundation of knowledge with regard to criteria of data design lead quite often to major failures in efficacy of data modeling. In this paper, we have compared normalization-critical data modeling approach, well-known as the Non-Stop Data Modeling methodology in the literature, to the Information Engineering in which in many occasions the notion of do-normalization is supported and even recommended as a mandatory part in its modeling nature. Quantitative analyses have revealed that NS methodology ostensibly outperforms IE methodology in terms of efficiency indices like adequacy of entity judgement, degree of existence of data circulation path that confirms the balancedness of data design and ratio of unnecessary data attribute replication.

  • Corporations continue to make a lot of efforts to provide more competitive services as the focus of industry is migrating from products to services. This study aims to shed new light on the potential values of the sense for service innovation through design and propose the workshop methodology for deriving sense-based product and service concepts. To this end, this study investigated the literatures related to the product and service innovation cases based on the conventional idea workshop and sense and also the value of sense. Moreover, it systematized the methodology that established the perspective of sense to the conventional idea workshop methodology. To verify the established methodology, this study extracted the elements to be modified and supplemented from the workshop methodology through the previous case studies. As a result of the study, it was possible to verify the validity as to the sense-based idea workshop methodology and reflect the opinions as to the improvement direction. Consequently, this study is regarded meaningful for proposing the approach of a new perspective as to the sense. Also, this study is deemed meaningful for proposing and verifying the specific idea workshop methodology for the approach hereof.
