  • This paper introduces a digital image processing(DIP) method as a method for measuring the displacement of pylon. The comparison of DIP results and ANSYS analysis results verified the validity of the image processing technique. Normalized cross-correlation(NCC) coefficient was used and experiments were performed three times. It shows that the displacement difference was 22% and 5% compared to ANSYS results. Therefore, the image processing method is expected to be able to measure the displacement of pylon sufficiently.

  • There are several methods which estimate the behavior of the Structures. Recently, several displacement measuring instruments such a GPS are substantially developed. So, considering this technique, displacement measurement will be a very efficient method for estimating the behavior of the Structures and maintenance. Therefore we need to develop methods of structure maintenance & management by using displacement measuring instruments. In this study, I suggest to maintenance & management method by using displacements about simple beams and cantilever beams which are very important structure in civil engineering. The results show that the proposed method is capable of estimating the displacement and stress of the Beam Member by combining the proper number of measurement and optimum measurement points.

  • A new load/displacement parameter method is developed for the cases that loads are applied to one or more points, and displacements of a structure are controlled at one or more points sinultaneously. The procedure exploits a generalized Riks method, which utilizes load/displacement parameters as scaling factors in order to analyze the post-buckling phenomena including snap-through or snap-back. A convergence characteristic is improved by employing new relaxation factors in incremental displacement parameter, particularly at the region where exhibits severe numerical instability. The improved performance is illustrated by means of numerical example.

  • A detailed and thorough parametric study of digital image correlation method is presented. A theoretical background and development of the method were introduced and the effects of various parameters on the determination of displacement outputs from the raw original and deformed image information were examined. Use of the normalized correlation coefficient, the use of 20 to 40 pixels for a searching window side, 6 variables searching, bi-cubic spline sub pixel interpolations and the use of coarse-fine search are some of the key choices among the results of parametric studies. The displacement outputs can be further processed with two dimensional curve fitting for the data noise reduction as well as displacement gradient calculation.

  • This paper presents the numerical procedure for calculating non-uniform residual stresses based on relieved displacements obtained from incremental hole drilling. The relationship between the in-plane displacement produced by introducing a blind hole and the corresponding residual stress is established. Finite element calculations are described to evaluate the relieved coefficients required for the determination of non-uniform residual stresses. Validity of the proposed method has been tested through three axisymmetric test examples and two three-dimensional examples. As a result of . simulation on the test examples, it is found that this numerical procedure is well adopted to measuring non-uniform residual stress in the full hole depth range of the hole diameter from the surface. The accuracy of the hole drilling method with displacement measurement is discussed, comparing tile method with strain measurement

  • Electronic Speckle Pattern Interferometry (ESPI) with a CW laser, a video system and an image processor was utilized to measure the in-plane displacement. Unlike traditional strain gauges or Moire method. ESPI method measure the in-plane displacement on real time with out any surface preparation on surface attachment. The specimen has a crack of 10*0.1 mm in the middle of plate and strain gauge was also attached on that surface to compare with ESPI method. This study reveled the ESPI method to measure the displacement and distribution of strain in the specimen. It was shown in tensile tests that the measurement by ESPI method was comparable with strain gauge.

  • A new load/displacement parameter method is proposed for the simultaneous control of applied loads and structural displacements at one or more points. The procedure is based on a generalized Riks' method, which utilizes load/displacement parameters as scaling factors to analyze post-buckling phenomena including snap-through or snap-back. The convergence characteristics are improved by employing new relaxation factors through an incremental displacement parameter, particularly in a region that exhibits severe numerical instability. • ESPE(Electonic-Speckle-Pattern-Interferometry) is very useful method for measuring In-plane displacement. Using the CW-Laser and Image processing system, it is possible to measure displacement and strain. Unlike traditional straingauge or moire' method, ESPI method requires no special surface preparation or attachments and can be measured In-plane displacement with no contact and real time. In this experimental specimen was loaded in paralled with loadcell, which provided loading step. The specimen was sheet plate, which was attached straingauge in x-y direction. In this study provides an example of how ESPI has been used to measure two dimensional displacement and strain distribution in this specimen. The results measured by ESPI compare with the data which was measured straingauge method in tensile testing at 1 ton range.

  • The abutment of bridge on soft foundation makes lateral movement due to the settlement of back fill and lateral flow. To measure the displacement of such a abutment, there are a lot of indirect method for measurement such as survey of leveling or inclinometer gauge around the abutment. But all of them are not sufficient to confirm the ground behavior and measure the exact lateral behavior of structure. As making the structure and pile cooperatively by measuring the movement of lateral displacement, for measuring the abutment displacement precisely by using the incliinometer. In this work, we try to suggest efficient measuring method of abutment displacement and its application.

  • We have developed an evaluation technique for both ratio error and phase displacement of current transformer (CT) comparator by using the precise standard capacitors and resistors. By applying this technique to equivalent circuit of CT comparator evaluation system, we can obtain the calculated and measured ratio errors (or phase displacements) in the CT comparator. Thus we can evaluate ratio errors and phase displacement of CT comparator by comparing the calculated and measured ratio errors (or phase displacements). The method was applied to CT comparator under test with the ratio errors and phase displacement ranges of $0{\sim}{\pm}10%$ and $0{\sim}{\pm}7.5$ crad, respectively. Finally we have compared the ratio error and phase displacement of the CT comparator obtained in this method with specifications of two companies.
