Metallic copper nanoparticles were synthesised by reduction of copper ions in aqueous solution, and metal-metal bonding by using the nanoparticles was studied. A colloid solution of metallic copper nanoparticles was prepared by mixing an aqueous solution of $CuCl_2$ (0.01 M) and an aqueous solution of hydrazine (reductant) (0.2-1.0 M) in the presence of 0.0005 M of citric acid and 0.005 M of n-hexadecyltrimethylammonium bromide (stabilizers) at reduction temperature of $30-80^{\circ}C$. Copper-particle size varied (in the range of ca. 80-165 nm) with varying hydrazine concentration and reduction temperature. These dependences of particle size are explained by changes in number of metallic-copper-particle nuclei (determined by reduction rate) and changes in collision frequency of particles (based on movement of particles in accordance with temperature). The main component in the nanoparticles is metallic copper, and the metallic-copper particles are polycrystalline. Metallic-copper discs were successfully bonded by annealing at $400^{\circ}C$ and pressure of 1.2 MPa for 5 min in hydrogen gas with the help of the metalli-ccopper particles. Shear strength of the bonded copper discs was then measured. Dependences of shear strength on hydrazine concentration and reduction temperature were explained in terms of progress state of reduction, amount of impurity and particle size. Highest shear strength of 40.0 MPa was recorded for a colloid solution prepared at hydrazine concentration of 0.8 M and reduction temperature of $50^{\circ}C$.
The potential role of environmental factors on extractable lipofuscin accumulation rate in the blue crab was studied by examining the effect of temperature on laboratory reared blue crabs and the effect of trace metals from samples collected at impacted sites (Baltimore Harbor) and a relatively pristine site (outdoor ponds at Horn Point Laboratory, Cambridge, MD, USA). Lipofuscin levels did not significantly related with sampling sites or heavy metal concentrations in the crab tissue. Heavy metal body burden was highly variable among sampling sites and tissue types but significantly higher for both impacted areas (Curtis Creek and Inner Harbor) in comparison to the reference site. Among tissue types, gills showed the highest metal concentrations with the exception of Hg, which was highest in muscle tissue. For two groups of crabs that were held at either ambient (4 to 1$0^{\circ}C$) or heated seawater (19$^{\circ}C$) for two months, normalized-lipofuscin levels were significantly different (P-0.001). Results suggest that temperature may affect lipofuscin accumulation (=0.25ng-lipofuscin/mg-protein/temperature-degree day). Therefore, temperature should be considered for accurate age calibration of crab populations using lipofuscin.
In this paper, the influence of the table speed, metal removal rate and grinding fluid on long wheel workpiece contact zone at high effect grinding was investigated by theoretical analyses and measuring the temperature, and discussed by the temperature distribution in grinding surface layer. Main results obtained are as follows, 1) Rega.dless of the table speed, the temperature gap of the workpiece(heat influx) is about 6-8 times as high in dry condition as in wet condition. 2) Good grinding condition can be obtained owing to the effect of grinding fluid without any burning defect under the condition of the metal removal rate(1.0mm$^3$/mm.s) in case of wet grinding. 3) When the depth from the surface layer is about 1.25-1.5mm under the condition of the slow table speed, surface temperature goes up higher as the table speed slows down, because long contact time is laked at the surface layer. 4) In case of the same metal removal rate, the lower the table speed becomes, the higher the surface temperature is, because grinding depth has a far more influence on wheel workpiece contact zone than the table speed.

The temperature of vertical pump bearing metal in the pumped storage power plant has been high enough to shutdown the unit. Attempts such as decreasing the oil supply temperature, increasing the bearing oil gap etc. were performed to resolve the problem, but the issue was not resolved. Finally, the high bearing metal temperature was corrected by adjusting the bearing preload. The preload is formed by the oil wedge between the journal surface and bearing pad surface and the degree of preload is determined by the machined radial clearance, assembled radial clearance, rotor journal diameter etc. This paper focuses on the analysis of the preload depending on the bearing parameters and the result of the modification of the bearing following the analysis. The bearing metal temperature dropped as much as $20^{\circ}C$ which was similar as expected by software calculation. But the shaft vibration could increase when the assembled radial clearance is excessive. So, the adjustment of the bearing preload for the tilting pad type journal bearing should be carefully performed.
Since ultrasonic stress wave velocity varies with wood temperature and moisture content, ultrasonic stress wave could be a tool to predict wood moisture content if temperature effect could be eliminated. This temperature effect was investigated by measuring the velocities of ultrasonic stress waves transmitting through air, a metal bar and a dimension lumber at various temperatures. For air the velocity and amplitude of the ultrasonic stress wave increase with temperature, while for a metal bar and a dimension lumber those decrease as temperature increases. However all three materials showed velocity hystereses with a temperature cycle. The effect of temperature and moisture content on stress wave velocity of a dimension lumber was depicted in the form of a three dimensional graph. The plot of stress wave velocity vs. wood moisture content was well fitted by two regression equations: a exponential equation below 46% and a linear equation above 46%.

It is shown in the present study that during the HTS (hot temperature storage) test, the metal contamination by impure elements can be highly susceptible to the void formation, leading to the open failure of the power line in the memory device. Such a functional failure associated with the metal contamination was investigated to be dominant in the early stages of the HTS test while the formation of a stress-driven void is mainly observed in the later stages. In particular, it was found that the void formed in the contaminated metal takes on a slit-like shape which has been known to be characteristic of the stress-related voiding. The impure elements leading to the metal degradation were identified to be carbon and oxygen introduced during the metal sputtering process. The experimental works show that the device reliability was significantly improved by reducing the level of such impure elements within metal. In this paper, we present a design, analysis, fabrication and performance test of the novel DoD metal-jet system for application to the high-density and high-temperature-melting materials. The theoretical analysis of the metal-jet nozzle system is derived by using electro-mechanical analogy. Based on the theoretical analysis results, we design the metal-jet print head system and fabricate the metal-jet system, which can eject the droplet of lead-free metal solder in high-temperature. In the experimental test, we set up the test apparatus for visualization of the droplet ejection and measure the ejected droplet volume and velocity. As a result, the diameter, volume and the velocity of the ejected droplet are about 65 $\mu$m $\sim$ 70 $\mu$m, 145p1 $\sim$ 180 pl and 4m/s, which shows quite good agreement with the theoretical analysis results of the 75 $\mu$m-diameter and 220 pl-volume of droplet. In comparison with the experimental result, the errors of diameter and volume are 7% $\sim$ 13% and 18 $\sim$ 34%, respectively.
Conventional manufacturing process for cast iron-babbitt metal composite is complicate and bimetallic bonding by centrifugal casting is also difficult because their melting point is largely different and nonmetallic inclusion exists on outer shell. This study is aiming to simplify multistage process by adding Cu-powder as insert metals during cast iron solidification. The variables on fabrication of composite pipe are mold rotating speed and inner surface temperature of outer metal. The optimum temperature range for fusion bonding between cast iron and Cu-layer was $1100^{\circ}C-1140^{\circ}C$ in case of mold rotating speed was 700rpm. When the inner surface of Cu-layer was at $900^{\circ}C$, the value of interfacial hardness between Cu-layer and babbitt metal were higher than Cu-matrix by forming diffusion layer, interfacial products between Cu-layer and babbitt metal are proved to be $Cu_6Sn_5({\eta})$by XRD.
A DE-side LBP tilting pad journal bearing of a 1-stage overhung heat-pump compressor in a propylene process exhibited abnormal high-temperature behavior. Its temperature had been relatively high at $78^{\circ}C$ from the beginning of operation. In 2014, after three years of operation, it increased suddenly and reached $103^{\circ}C$. Installing a varnish removal equipment and others managed to stabilize the temperature at $95^{\circ}C$. We undertook a troubleshooting approach for reviewing the comprehensive status and integrity of the temperature design of the bearing. We performed lubrication and heat-balance analysis, based on the design engineering data and documents supplied by the OEM. For the base design data of DE-side TPJB, evaluating the effects of key design variables on bearing metal temperature showed that firstly, increasing the bearing clearance and supply oil flow-rate, and next, changing the oil type, and finally, increasing the machined pad clearance and offset, are more effective in reducing the bearing metal temperature. Furthermore, a clarification meeting with the OEM revealed that an incorrect decision had been made to decrease the bearing clearance to eliminate the SSV harshness issue, while not maintaining a sufficient oil flow-rate. We conducted a detailed retrofit design analysis, wherein we increased the oil flow-rate and bearing clearance by decreasing the preload. We predicted that the bearing temperature would decrease to $63^{\circ}C$ from $75.7^{\circ}C$ even at the rerate condition. Finally, after installing and operating a retrofit replacement bearing in 2015, the bearing temperature stabilized at a low temperature of $65^{\circ}C$. Currently (January. 2017), two year later, the bearing metal temperature remains at $65^{\circ}C$. Therefore, we can conclude that the abnormal high-temperature behavior of the bearing has been resolved completely.
For a conventional power metal-oxide-semiconductor field-effect transistor (MOSFET), there is a trade-off between specific on-state resistance and breakdown voltage. To overcome this trade-off, a super-junction trench MOSFET (TMOSFET) structure is suggested; within this structure, the ability to sense the temperature distribution of the TMOSFET is very important since heat is generated in the junction area, thus affecting its reliability. Generally, there are two types of temperature-sensing structures-diode and resistive. In this paper, a diode-type temperature-sensing structure for a TMOSFET is designed for a brushless direct current motor with on-resistance of $96m{\Omega}{\cdot}mm^2$. The temperature distribution for an ultra-low on-resistance power MOSFET has been analyzed for various bonding schemes. The multi-bonding and stripe bonding cases show a maximum temperature that is lower than that for the single-bonding case. It is shown that the metal resistance at the source area is non-negligible and should therefore be considered depending on the application for current driving capability.
