This study is an empirical result for building an onboard communication network using metal surface wave communication and is a consideration of its application within the ship. Over the past three years, the applicability and the performance of metal surface wave communication has been confirmed by testing on five small and medium ships. In the tests, IEEE 802.11 protocol of Wi-Fi was used, and the signals were generated in the form of surface waves. Data was sent from AP to AP in the point-to-point form, and the transmission speed was measured at the same time. If necessary, additional repeaters were used to extend the transmission distance. As derived a transmission speed of 5 to 100 Mbps in wireless communication restricted areas of the 5 ships, it is believed that it is possible to reduce the weight of ships and costs by eliminating the communication cables by using surface wave communication as the back-bone network on ships.

In this study analyzed experimental data on noise interference caused by engine operating apply surface wave communication in the engine room. For the experiment, 7 areas of the engine room on 256 ton tug boat and measured noise during engine on off using signal analyzer for effect surface wave communication. In order to construct and actual communication network based on the analysis of the noise and confirm the characteristics of surface wave communication in the area made metal bulkheads the actual communication network installed communication equipment between three metal bulkheads and conducted a comparative experiment with wireless communication. The difference was confirmed. As a result, in the case of surface wave communication, there was no significant difference in the transmission and reception rates before and after engine operation in an environment with three bulkheads, but in the case of Wi-Fi using wireless, the performance deteriorated significantly during operation. was confirmed. As a result of analyzing the experimental data, it was confirmed that noise caused by engine operation affects wireless communication but does not affect surface wave communication. Therefore, even in the area with a lot of electromagnetic wave noise in the ship, when the surface wave communication system is configured using the ship's metal structure, it is possible to replace the wireless communication and furthermore, it is possible to apply the surface wave communication in the enclosed space and the engine room in the ship.

A machine vision based industrial inspection includes defects detection and classification. Fast inspection is a fundamental problem for many applications of real-time vision systems. It requires little computation time and localizing defects robustly with high accuracy. Deep learning technique have been known not to be suitable for real-time applications. Recently a couple of fast region-based CNN algorithms for object detection are introduced, such as Faster R-CNN, and YOLOv2. We apply these methods for an industrial inspection problem. Three CNN based detection algorithms, VOV based CNN, Faster R-CNN, and YOLOv2, are experimented for defect detection on metal surface. The results for inspection time and various performance indices are compared and analysed.
Pure and fine, two-component titanate powders (barium titanate, calcium titanate etc.) were synthesized by an ethylene glycol method. Titanium isopropoxide and other metal ionic salts were dissolved in liquid-type ethylene glycol without any precipitation. In non-aqueous system, the amount of ethylene glycol affected the solubility and homogeneity of metal cation sources in the solution. At the optimum amount of the polymer, the metal ions were dispersed effectively in solution and a homogeneous polymeric network was formed. Most of the synthesized powders had sub-micron or nano-size primary particles after calcination and the agglomerated calcined powders were easily ground by ball milling process. All synthesized titanate powders had stable crystallization behavior at low temperature and high specific surface area after ball milling. The crystallization behavior and the microstructures of the calcined powders were affected on the ethylene glycol content.

We investigated the effects of substrate, metal-line, and surface material on the performance of radio frequency identification(RFID) tag antenna using a tag antenna with a meander line radiator and T-matching network. The results showed that readability of the tag antenna with a thin high-loss substrate could be increased so that it was similar to that of a low-loss substrate if the substrate was very thin. The readability of the tag antenna decreased significantly when the metal line was thinner than the skin depth. The readability of the tag also decreased drastically when the tag was attached to high-permittivity high-loss target objects.
This study demonstrated the synthesis of high-surface-area metal-free carbonaceous electrodes (CE) from anodic aluminum oxide (AAO) templates, and their application as supercapacitors. Multi-walled Carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) were interwoven into a porous network sheet that was attached to one side of AAO template through a vacuum filtration of the homogeneously dispersed MWCNT toluene solution. Subsequently, the conducting polymer was electrochemically grown into the porous MWCNT network and nanochannels of AAO, leading to the formation of a carbonaceous metal-free film electrode with a high surface area in the given geometrical surface area. Typical conducting polymers such as polypyrrole (PPY) and poly(3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene) (PEDOT) were examined as model systems, and the resulting electrodes were investigated as supercapacitors (SCs). These SCs exhibited stable, high capacitances, with values as high as 554 F/g, 1.08 F/$cm^2$ for PPY and 237 F/g, 0.98 F/$cm^2$ for PEDOT, that were normalized by both the mass and geometric area.
A quality monitoring system in butt welding process is proposed to estimate weld pool sizes. The geometrical parameters of the weld pool such as the top bead width and the penetration depth plus half back width are utilized to prove the integrity of the weld quality. The monitoring variables used are the surface temperatures measured at three points on the top surface of the weldment. The temperature profile is assumed that it has a gaussian distribution in vertical direction of torch movement and verify this assumption through temperature analysis. A neural network estimator is designed to estimate weld pool size from temperature informations. The experimental results show that the proposed neural network estimator which used gaussian distribution as temperature information can estimate the weld pool sizes accurately than used three point temperatures as temperature information. Considering the change of gap size in butt welding, the experiment were performed on various gap size.

We investigated the monolayer behavior at the air-water interface with metal solution, the surface morphologies and the electrical properties such as conductivity, The calculated conductivity values of pure water subphase and its complexes with L $i^{+}$ ions are 5.6$\times$10$^{-l6}$ and 1.9$\times$10$^{-14}$ [S/cm], respectively. And the calculated barrier height D values of pure water subphase and its complexes with Li. ions are 0.70 and 0.66 [eV], respectively. We also attempted to fabricate a crown dendrimer Langmuir-Blodgett (LB) films containing functional end group that could form a complex structure with metal ions. Also, we investigated the surface activity of dendrimer films at air-water interface. In AFM images. the larger domains irregularly shaped structures on the top while the smaller ones were free from such defects. In conclusion, it is demonstrated that the metal ion around dendrimer and polymer included crown function group can contribute to make formation of network structure among crown function group and result in change of electrical properties.s.s.

This study demonstrates the performance of flexible surface wave resonators in spaces on a ship to overcome environmental limits like non-metallic walls where conventional surface wave resonators cannot installable. Although test results in plane structures show that the performance of conventional surface wave resonators are better than the flexible ones, the results are reversed in curved structures. Flexible surface wave resonators can be installed on metal-pipes that connects all spaces in a ship, and this will allow to build ultimate communication network all over the ship including the rooms like cabins or bridges that are enclosed in non-metallic walls.
