Metal surface temperatures around the combustion chamber in a gasoline engine directly affect thermal durability and performance of the engine. Metal surface temperatures are influenced by many cooling factors such as drilled water passage, deflector, combustion chamber wall thickness, pillar, and coolant flow pattern. The object of this study is to learn how the coolant passages and coolant flow pattern in an engine influence to the engine metal surface temperature at engine full load and speed. From the test result, it is suggested a plan to reinforce the engine stiffness and to reduce the thermal stress simultaneously. Also, approaches are introduced to reduce the thermal load on the engine by adjusting the discharging direction from the water pump and by optimizing the water transfer holes in the cylinder head gasket. These methods and the optimized engine cooling system, which were suggested in this paper, were adapted for an engine in progress to eliminate the exhaust valve seat wear.
In the continuous casting process, molten metal contacts the mold wall and the molten metal surface is subject to the mold oscillation. The mold oscillation results in the oscillation marks on the surface of solidified steel, which has undesirable effects on the quality of slabs. In order to reduce the oscillation marks by achieving soft contact of molten metal with the mold surface, alternating magnetic field is applied to the surface of molten metal. However, if the magnetic field strength becomes too strong, the melt flow induced by the magnetic field. causes the instability of the molten metal surface, which has also the bad influence on the slab quality. Therefore, it is very important to choose the optimal position of the inductor coil and the optimal level of electric power to minimize the surface defects. In the present work, as a first step toward the optimization problem of the process, numerical studies are performed to investigate the effects of coil position and the electric power level on the meniscus shape and the flow field. As numerical tools, the boundary integral equation method(BIEM) is used for the magnetic field analysis and the finite difference method (FDM) with orthogonal grid generation is used for the flow analysis.
Submicron contact hole filling with aluminum alloys has been achieved with a multistep metallization method, which utilizes a metal " flow" or self-diffusion process at elevated temperatures after the metal was sputter-deposited. A multi-chamber, modular sputtering system was employed to deposit aluminum alloys and subsequently to anneal the deposited metal films under vacuum at high temperatures. The film were deposited on 200 mm wafers with planar, dc magnetron sputtering sources without anysubstrate bias. The basic process steps studied for the multistep metallization include an initial layer deposition at low temperatures less than $100^{\circ}C$, and an annealin gstep at elevated temperatures, between 450 and $550^{\circ}C$. The degree of planarization or step coverage was dependent strongly upon the temperature and time of the flow step and complete filling of the submicron contacts with aluminum alloys was achieved. Responsible mechanisms for the enhancement in step coverge and factros determining uniform and reproducible flow of aluminum alloys during the high temperauture step are discussed.discussed.
In case of hollow cylinder extrusion using porthole die, the effects of extrusion parameters-temperature, the speed of extrusion, the shape of the die and mandrel-on metal flow in porthole die extrusion of aluminum have been investigated. However, there have been few studies about condenser tube extruded by porthole die. This study was designed to evaluate metal flow, welding pressure, extrusion load, tendency of mandrel deflection according to variation of chamber length. in porthole die. Estimation was carried out using finite element method. Porthole die is analyzed in as non-steady state. Analytical results provide useful information the optimal design of porthole die.
The behavior of the work materials in the chip-tool interface in extremely high strain rates and temperatures is more that of viscous liquids than that of normal solid metals. In these circumstances the principles of fluid mechanics can be invoked to describe the metal flow in the neighborhood of the cutting edge. In the present paper an Eulerian finite element model is presented that simulates metal flow in the vicinity of the cutting edge when machining a low carbon steel with carbide cutting tool. The work material is assumed to obey visco-plastic (Bingham solid) constitutive law and Von Mises criterion. Heat generation is included in the model, assuming adiabatic conditions within each element. the mechanical and thermal properties of the work material are accepted to vary with the temperature. The model is based on the virtual work-stream function formulation, emphasis is given on analyzing the formation of the stagnant metal zone ahead of the cutting edge. The model predicts flow field characteristics such as material velocity effective stress and strain-rate distributions as well as built-up layer configuration
In this study, the AZO thin films were prepared as a function of oxygen gas flow ratio at room temperature by FTS(Facing Targets Sputtering) apparatus using Zn:Al(metal)-Zn:Al(metal) or Zn(metal)-ZnO:Al(ceramic). The film thickness, crystalline and electric properties of AZO thin film was evaluated by $\alpha$-step, XRD and 4-point probe. In the results, the resistivity of AZO thin film was shown the lowest value about 8${\times}$10$^{-2}$$\Omega$-cm(Zn:Al-Zn:Al), 3${\times}$10$^{-1}$$\Omega$-cm(Zn-ZnO:Al) at the oxygen gas flow ratio 0.3. And the AZO thin film has good crystalline at oxygen gas flow ration 0.4, using Zn:Al-Zn:Al targets.

An experimental investigation on flow pattern was carried out in molten Woods metal using an incorporated magnet probe to determine the velocity field in a Woods metal model of Czochralski crystal growth system. The local velocities in Woods metal were obtained 3-dimensionally at numerous positions of large crucible by measuring the voltage induced in the melt. Since there have not been a lot of the model experiments on the velocity distributions in the large size of melt with low Prandtl number for Czochralski crystal growth system, the present paper aims to give useful guidelines for e analysis of fluid flow in Czochralski growth system.
