For mapping the distribution of heavy metals in the mining area, field spectroscopy and hyperspectral remote sensing were used in this study. Although heavy metals are spectrally featureless from the visible to the short wave infrared range, possible variations in spectral signal due to heavy metals bound onto minerals can be explained with the metal binding reaction onto the mineral surface. Variations in the spectral absorption shapes of lattice OH and oxygen on the mineral surface due to the combination of heavy metals were surveyed over the range from 420 to 2400 nm. Spectral parameters such as peak ratio and peak area were derived and statistically linked to metal concentration levels in the streambed samples collected from the dry stream channels. The spatial relationships between spectral parameters and concentrations of heavy metals were yielded as well. Based on the observation at a ground level for the relationship between spectral signal and metal concentration levels, the spectral parameters were classified in a hyperspectral image and the spatial distribution patterns of classified pixels were compared with the product of analysis at the ground level. The degree of similarity between ground dataset and image dataset was statistically validated. These techniques are expected to support assessment of dispersion of heavy metal contamination and decision on optimal sampling point.

Many researchers are recently studying about Electroactive polymer(EAP). But it has a physical limitation, because of property of material. Carbon nanotube(CNT) is known as the promising material which has excellent electro-mechanical characteristics and is mostly defect-free. It is expected that a successful synthesis of CNT and Nafion known as a primary material for IPMC would make a great improvement on its electro-mechanic feature. This study focuses on the method of synthesis of CNT with Nafion which improves electro-mechanical characteristic. To come up with mechanical dispersion with Nafion and Isopropyl Alcohol(IPA), we dispersed Single-walled carbon nanotubes(SWCNTs). For a uniformly layer of CNT, we used a spray gun on a hot plate by a simplified method. We fabricated a disperse SWCNT/Nafion composite uniformly. Through the use of the E-beam evaporator to form an uniform electrode layer, we consummated the IPMC actuator. This result shows improving 1.5 times mechanical properties about driving force in IPMC.
Two kinds of oxide-dispersion-strengthened (ODS) 316L stainless steel were manufactured using a wet mixing process(wet) and a mechanical alloying method (MA). An MA 316L ODS was prepared by a mixing of metal powder and a mechanical alloying process. A wet 316L ODS was manufactured by a wet mixing with 316L stainless steel powder. A solution of yttrium nitrate was dried after being in the wet 316L ODS alloy. The results showed that carbon and oxygen were effectively reduced during the degassing process before the hydroisostatic process (HIP) in both alloys. It appeared that the effect of HIP treatment on increase in impact energy was pronounced in the MA 316L ODS alloy. The MA 316L ODS alloy showed a higher yield strength and a smaller elongation, when compared to the wet 316L ODS alloy. This seemed to be attributed to the enhancement of bonding between oxide and matrix particles from HIP and to the presence of a finer oxide of about 20 nm from the MA process in the MA 316L ODS alloy.
Soils and dusts collected from Changhang smelter area were analyzed for Cu, Pb, Zn, and Cd in order to determine their dispersion pattern and mode of occurrences, and to investigate the pollution level of heavy metals such as Cu, Pb, Zn, and Cd by smelting activity. The soil pH of Changhang area is in the range of 3.7~8.8, and increased with increasing distance from the smelter site. The particles containing heavy metals are several tens of ${\mu}m$ in diameter, and have well crystal form. Samples collected near the smelter show similar particle properties in size, shape, and composition, which means that they could be originated from the same contamination source. Element couples of Cu, Pb, Zn, and Cd indicate high correlation with each other, which means that Cu, Pb, Zn, and Cd could be originated from the same point source of smelter. Heavy metal contents were decayed to background levels from 2.5 kilometer away from the smelter.

This study investigates the directional recrystallization behavior of Ni based oxide dispersion strengthened (ODS) alloy according to the zone annealing velocity. The zone annealing temperature is set as $1390^{\circ}C$, while the zone velocities are set as 2.5, 4, 6, and 10 cm/h, respectively. The initial microstructure observation of the as-extruded sample shows equiaxed grains of random orientation, with an average grain size of 530 nm. On the other hand, the zone annealed samples show a large deviation in grain size depending on the zone velocities. In particular, grains with a size of several millimeters are observed at 2.5-cm/h zone velocity. It is also found that the preferred orientation varies with the zone annealing velocity. On the basis of these results, this study discusses the role of zone velocities in the directional recrystallization of Ni base ODS alloy.

The monolayer behaviors at the air-water interface and the dielectric properties of MI-0 LB films for complex concentration were investigated by the surface pressure-area ($\pi$-A) isotherms and dielectric constant. The molecular area was expanded with increase of metal ions concentration. It is considered that the expansion of molecular area is due to electrostatic repulsion between the polymer chains andhydrophobic increase of ionic strength. In the frequency-dependent complex dielectric constant at room temperature, the real part of dielectric constant($\varepsilon'$) is about 6.0~10.0 in the low-frequency range and is decreasing slowly upto $1O^4$Hz. It decreased abruptly near $1O^5Hz$. It seems to be dielectric dispersion in this frequency range. Also, the imaginary part of dielectric constant ($\varepsilon"$) shows a peak in $1O^5$~$1O^6Hz$. It seems to be dielectric absorption in this frequency range.ange.

Software has been developed for simulating particle dispersion in a circular pipe with sudden-expansion, which models the fuel feeding system of a combustor that uses metal powder like aluminum as fuel. The Lagrangian based discrete tracer point method was employed for a plug flow of particles that satisfies local turbulent velocity fluctuations. A radial velocity component was created to improve the flow turning outwards in the recirculation zone. The particle distribution patterns from both with and without the component were directly compared with the experiments near the reattachment.
Stearic acid (SA), polyethylene glycol (PEG), and malic acid (MA) have been used to modify the surface of waste gypsum to develop corresponding poly (butylene adipate-co-terephthalate) (PBAT) composites. According to the mechanical properties, MA-treated gypsum (MA-gypsum) showed the best performance, whereas SA-gypsum showed the worst performance. In contrast to SA and PEG (having -COOH and -OH as polar functional groups, respectively), the presence of both -OH and -COOH in MA is responsible for the superior surface treatment of gypsum and its better dispersion in the polymer matrix (as revealed by FE-SEM analyses). The presence of long aliphatic chain in SA is supposed to inhibit the dispersion of SA-gypsum. Further, the performance of MA-gypsum/PBAT was enhanced by adding polylactic acid (PLA). The maximum optimized contents of MA-gypsum and PLA are 20 and 7.5 wt% for developing a high-performance PBAT composite.
The microstructure of highly aggregated colloidal dispersions was investigated by probing the rheological behavior of magnetic suspensions. The dynamic moduli as functions of frequency and strain amplitude are shown to closely resemble that of colloidal gels indicating the formation of network structure. The two types of characteristic critical strain amplitudes, γc and γy, were characterized in terms of the changing microstructure. The amplitude of γc indicates the transition from linear to nonlinear viscoelasticity and depends only on particle volume fraction not magnetic interactions. The study of scaling behavior suggests that it is related to the breakage of interfloc, i.e., floc-floc structure. However, yielding strain, γy, was found to be independent of particle volume fraction as well as magnetic interaction. It relates to extensive deformation resulting in yielding behavior. The scaling of elastic constant, Ge, implies that this yielding behavior and hence γy is due to the breakage of long-range interfloc interactions. Also, the deformation of flocs due to increase strain was indicated from the investigation of the fractal nature.
Mono-dispersed polyamide 6(Nylon 6) micro-particles sized in $4{\sim}5\;{\mu}m$ diameter were prepared by dispersion polymerization of ${\varepsilon}-caprolactam$ in liquid paraffin as a dispersion medium. Potassium metal(K) as a catalyst was separately added twice over the anionic ring-opening polymerization of ${\varepsilon}-caprolactam$. The size, shape, and size-distribution of prepared particles were varied with the concentration of anti-coagulant as well as the amount of initiator and catalyst. As the initiator concentration was in the range of $0.97{\sim}1.17\;wt%$ in monomer, about 90.6% of yield was accomplished. In addition, the highest yield of well-spherically shaped micro-particles was achieved by adding about $1.3{\sim}1.4\;wt%$ of catalyst.
