  • To obtain more accurate result in the finite element analysis for electric machinery, it is important to have a mesh being of good quality. This paper describes a new technique of mesh generation for the finite element method. When the list of points defining the region of analysis is given, an appropriate distribution of interior points is generated first. Secondly the points are connected to from the trianlges. Finally the connectivity data are used to reposition the interior points using Laplacian smoothing and mesh relaxation technique. In this paper, a mesh searching technique of Lawson which modifies the start mesh is proposed in addition to the above three steps. This algorithm is simple and produces the meshes being of good quality with high speed in comparison with the existing one.

  • An efficient approach to the automatic construction of effective quadrilateral finite element meshes for two-dimensional analysis is presented. The procedure is composed of, firstly, an initial mesh generation and, secondly, an h-version of adaptive refinement based on error analysis. As for an initial mesh generation scheme, a modified looping algorithm has been employed. For the adaptive refinement process, an error indicator obtained by computing the residual error of the equilibrium equations in the energy norm with a relaxation factor has been employed. Examples of mesh generation and self-adaptive mesh improvements are given. These example solutions demonstrate that an effective mesh for a given error tolerance can be obtained in a few steps of the analysis processes.

  • This paper addresses a novel application of meshes to analyzing the deformation patterns of 2D signals. The proposed mesh is distinguished form the previous models in that it includes simulated charges in each node that interact with external charges comprising an input pattern. Therelaxation of the mesh given an input is carried out by any of the well-known numerical integration techniques. The result of the relaxation is a deformed mesh. This Paper provides four criterion functions for measuring the pattern deformation. A set of trained meshes was created from the simple average of target patterns. Experimental results show that these measures, although highly intuitive, are not good enough to capture the amount and characteristics of pattern deformation. If more sophisticated measures are found and incorporated into the relaxation process, we expect that a better and high-performance mesh framework is realized.

  • Among the various aspects of offline handwritten character patterns, it is the great variety of writing styles and variations that renders the task of computer recognition very hard. The immense variety of character shape has been recognized but rarely studied during the past decades of numerous research efforts. This paper tries to address the problem of measuring image distortions and handwritten character patterns with respect to reference patterns. This work is based on mass-spring mesh model with the introduction of simulated electric charge as a source of the external force that can aid decoding the shape distortion. Given an input image and a reference image, the charge is defined, and then the relaxation procedure goes to find the optimum configuration of shape or patterns of least potential. The relaxation process is based on the fourth order Runge-Kutta algorithm, well-known for numerical integration. The proposed method of modeling is rigorous mathematically and leads to interesting results. Additional feature of the method is the global affine transformation that helps analyzing distortion and finding a good match by removing a large scale linear disparity between two images.

  • In this paper, we propose an efficient emotional relaxation framework using Dijkstra algorithm based on anisotropic features. Emotional relaxation is as important as emotional analysis. This is a framework that can automatically alleviate the person's depression or loneliness. This is very important for HCI (Human-Computer Interaction). In this paper, 1) Emotion value changing from facial expression is calculated using Microsoft's Emotion API, 2) Using these differences in emotion values, we recognize abnormal feelings such as depression or loneliness. 3) Finally, emotional mesh based matching process considering the emotional histogram and anisotropic characteristics is proposed, which suggests emotional relaxation to the user. In this paper, we propose a system which can recognize the change of emotion easily by using face image and train personal emotion by emotion relaxation.

  • #140 mesh and #600 mesh wheels were adopted to grind (111) and (100) oriented single crystalline silicon wafer and the grinding induced change of the surface integrity was investigated. For this purpose, microroughness, residual stress and phase transformation were analyzed for the ground surface. Microroughness was analyzed using AFM (Atomic Force Microscope) and crystal structure was analyzed using micro-Raman spectroscopy. The residual stress and phase transformation were also analyzed after thermal annealing in the air. As a result, microroughness of (111) wafer was larger than that of (100) wafer after grinding. It was observed using Raman spectrum that the silicon was transformed from diamond cubic Si-I to Si-III(body centered tetragonal) or Si-XII(rhombohedral). Residual stress relaxation was also shown in cavities which were produced after grinding. The thermal annealing was effective for the recovery of the silicon phase to the original phase and the residual stress relaxation.

  • A new type of nonthermal plasma reactor utilizing ferroelectric pellets is proposed to generate nonthermal plasma efficiently, which is used for simultaneous control of various pollutant gases. Electric charges stored on ferroelctric pellets by corona discharge between a corona tip and a mesh electrode provide partial electrical discharges among ferroelectric pellets. These partial electrical discharges can enhance partial discharges around the surface of ferroelectric pellets. This method utilizes wide reacting area of ferroelectric pellets and partial discharge. Positive and negative dc voltage are applied to the corona tip to generate partial discharges, and corona currents are estimated to investigate charge storage on ferroelectric pellets as function of time and charge relaxation time constants of ferroelectric pellects. As a result, charge relaxationtime, dielectric constants of ferroelectric pellets, polarity of applied voltage and applied time influence partial discharges among ferroelectric pellect.

  • Surface corona discharge characteristics of a dc corona charged ferroelectric pellet barrier have been investigated experimentally. Electric charges stored on the surfaces of the ferroelectric pellets by a dc corona discharge provide partial electric fields on the surfaces of the ferroelectric pellets, which could generate surface corona discharges on the ferroelectric pellets. This system utilizes both the surface discharges on the ferroelectric pellet barrier and the corona discharge between corona tip and mesh electrode. Positive and negative dc voltages were applied to the tip to generate partial discharges, and corona currents were estimated to investigate the buildup charge on ferroelectric pellets as a function of the applied time and the charge relaxation time constants of ferroelectric pellets. As a result, in the case of the negative corona discharge with the ferroelectric pellet barrier, the mean corona current and ozone generation increase greatly, and the surface discharges on the ferroelectric pellets can be fenerated efficiently. It is also found that, charge relaxation time, dielectric constants offerroelectric pellets, polarity of applied voltage and applied time affected to the surface discharges among the ferroelectric pellets.
