  • In this paper, we propose to confirm the perceptions of vocational rehabilitation of the mentally disabled by mental health service providers. The survey was conducted using a questionnaire consisting of vocational ability for the mentally disabled, family support, worker competence, and worker needs, targeting 132 workers at the mental health welfare center and mental rehabilitation facility, which are mental health service institutions in A Metropolitan City. The collected data were analyzed using the technical knowledge, t-test, ANOVA, Scheff? test, Pearson's correlation coefficient, and multiple regression using the SPSS 21.0 program. In the end, the workers' desire for vocational rehabilitation for the mentally disabled of workers in mental health service institutions was higher in mental rehabilitation facilities than in mental health welfare centers, and the competence of workers had a significant effect on the vocational skills and family support of the mentally disabled people. Therefore, it will be possible to ultimately promote vocational rehabilitation for the mentally disabled by strengthening the capacity for vocational rehabilitation for the mentally handicapped of mental health service providers in the future.

  • This article investigates 170 mental health social workers in order to find out the current status and influencing factors on linking services. The social workers of this study work at different kinds of mental health organizations(mental hospitals, mental health centers, mental rehabilitation facilities, mental residential facilities). The result from the research were 1) the degree of linking services is low, and the primary type of coordination is sharing of information and client referrals. The fund-raising and joint project cases are very poor. 2) based on personal and organizational characteristics, there arc significant differences between respondents' sex, education level, job-related status, experience in mental health field, mental health licence(personal factors), location, type of organization, and type of primary client(organizational factors). 3) the factors affecting service coordination among mental health social workers are experience in mental health field, current job-related experience(personal factors), education, location of organization, type of organization, and history of organization(organizational factors). Finally, the research recommends that establishment of cooperation system, service delivery system, and information network is needed in order to enhancing the function of service coordination among mental health social workers. Also, mental health professional associations and agencies should provide opportunity of discussion and training for mental health social workers, and develop the institutional devices to expand the content and type of service coordination.

Methods: Based on the literature review and several types of workshops participated with the child health nursing professors, doctoral students, nurses in pediatric units and pediatric psychiatric units from July to December 2006, the standards of child health assessment tools were developed. Graduate students and 4th grade students in nursing were trained for health assessment and used these assessment tools to validate the content and reliability of said tools. Results: Some record forms were newly developed, including demographic characteristics, past history, present health status, behavioral problems, and appropriate developmental screening tests in child care centers were selected. For systematic health care management in child care centers, daily care report, illness log, and referral sheet were also developed. Conclusion: In the face of growing utilization of daycare and their association with increased risk of various diseases, assessment and control measures are indispensable to the promotion of child health. Children's physical and mental health and developmental problems can be assessed using this assessment tools. They can be used for establishing the direction for developing a health care service system for young children.

  • Purpose: This study identified the relationships among subjective health status, wisdom, and self-care agency of Korean older adults. Methods: The participants were 274 older adults from Daegu, aged over 65 years. Data were collected by visiting two social welfare centers, two senior welfare centers, and nine senior centers in Daegu from January 18 to February 5, 2013. Data were analyzed through one-way ANOVA, independent t-test, Pearson's correlation, and stepwise multiple linear regression using the IBM SPSS/WIN 19.0 statistical program. Results: A significant positive correlation was found among older adults' subjective health status, wisdom, and self-care agency. Self-care agency was affected by wisdom (47%, ${\beta}=.55$), the physical component summary (18%, ${\beta}=.31$) and mental component summary (1%, ${\beta}=.12$) of subjective health status, and the absence of disease (2%, ${\beta}=.13$). Conclusion: This study suggests that nursing interventions to promote self-care agency in older adults should be developed based on the characteristics of their subjective health status and wisdom.

Methods: A total of 172 patients with schizophrenia spectrum disorder registered in mental health welfare centers and rehabilitation facilities in Gwangju were recruited. Physical health monitoring was defined by two health behaviors; fasting blood tests within recent 2 years in all participants and routine medical check-ups covered by national insurance within recent 5 years in participants aged 40 years or older. Demographic and clinical characteristics including overweight, metabolic syndrome and knowledge about physical illness were compared according to physical health monitoring. Results: Prevalence of overweight and metabolic syndrome were 62.8% and 40.1%, respectively. The rates of fasting blood tests and routine medical check-ups were 34.9% and 67.9%, respectively. The rates of fasting blood tests were significantly higher in general hospital and university hospital compared to mental hospital or private clinic. Rates of routine medical check-ups were significantly lower in individuals using daily rehabilitation service and smokers. Knowledge about cancer and chronic illness were significantly better in individuals receiving routine medical check-ups compared with those not receiving it. Conclusion: Education about physical health should be integrated to mental health service in community mental health center.

  • Objectives The number of marriage immigrant women has been increasing in the past several years in Korea and their adaptations to the new environment have been an important social issue. The aims of this study were to evaluate the psychosocial and mental health statuses of Vietnamese marriage immigrant women (VMIW). We intended to compare the mental health of VMIW with married Vietnamese women living in Vietnam and reveal the demographic or psychosocial factors affecting their mental health. Method Subjects comprised one-hundred-forty-three VMIW who enrolled in multiculture family support centers in Chungbuk Province and forty-eight women from Vinh Phuc province in Vietnam. Marital satisfaction, domestic violence and social support were evaluated as psychosocial factors, and the Beck Depression Inventory (BDI), Beck Anxiety Inventory (BAI) and General Health Questionnaire (GHQ) were used to evaluate mental health. Results VMIW had a larger age gap with their husbands but better psychosocial statuses. BDI (p = 0.20), BAI (p = 0.08), GHQ (p = 0.13) scores of VMIW were not significantly different compared to Vietnamese residents. Marriage duration of VMIW affects significantly their marital satisfaction, social support and depressive levels (p < 0.01). The level of domestic violence showed a significant difference according to the educational levels of their husbands, composition of family members and marriage process (p < 0.05). VMIW with older husbands and jobless VMIW had low levels of anxiety (p < 0.01). Conclusion The results suggest that VMIW have no difference in mental health compared to Vietnamese women living in Vietnam which is contrary to general expectations. However, various environmental factors, such as marriage duration, have an effect on the mental health of VMIW. As marriage duration is proven to be important factor on mental health of VMIW, more extended duration of care and interventions are needed to maintain good mental health. Networking system connecting mental health screenings by the multiculture family support center to the local mental healthcare center is needed to care those with poor screening outcomes.
