Introduction of Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services in Korea and Their Role During the COVID-19 Pandemic: Focusing on the Ministry of Education Policy

  • This study aimed to discuss mental health services for children and adolescents that are being implemented as initiatives of the Korean government and to review the functions and roles of these projects during the COVID-19 pandemic. Three government departments are in charge of providing mental health services for children and adolescents: Ministry of Education, Ministry of Gender Equality and Family, and Ministry of Health and Welfare. The Ministry of Education has implemented several policies to facilitate the early detection of mental health issues among school students (from preventive interventions to selective interventions for high-risk students). The Ministry of Gender Equality and Family additionally serves out-of-school children and adolescents by facilitating early identification of adolescents in crises and providing temporary protection or emergency assistance (as required) through the Community Youth Safety-Net Project. Furthermore, the Ministry of Health and Welfare operates relevant mental health agencies for individuals of all ages including children and adolescents. Any high-risk students who have been screened through the projects of the Ministry of Education are supported through referrals to the following institutions for appropriate treatment of their symptoms: specialized hospitals, the Youth Counseling and Welfare Center operated by the Ministry of Gender Equality and Family, the National Youth Healing Center, the Mental Health Welfare Center operated by the Ministry of Health and Welfare, the Suicide Prevention Center, and the Child Welfare Center. To assist students who are facing any psychological difficulties because of the COVID-19 pandemic, the Ministry of Education has established a psychiatric support group for providing emergency mental health care; furthermore, schools are promoting psychological surveillance (e.g., provision of non-face-to-face counseling services that are centered around the Wee Center). The Ministry of Education, Ministry of Gender Equality and Family, and Ministry of Health and Welfare have provided varied mental health support services in order to address the challenges faced by children and adolescents during the pandemic. Nevertheless, the mental health services operated by each ministry do show some limitations because their service provision system is insufficiently collaborative. The present study discussed the positive effects of each initiative as well as its limitations; furthermore, it suggested improvements for facilitating the healthy development of children and adolescents' mental health.

독거노인의 정신건강 수준과 영향요인 (A Study on Factors Impacting on the Mental Health level of the Elderly People Living Alone)

  • 본 연구는 독거노인의 정신건강 수준이 어느 정도인지를 조사하고, 사회인구학적 변인들이 정신건강 수준에 어떤 차이를 가져오는지를 살펴보며, 정신건강의 영향요인을 분석하는 것이다. 이를 위해 G시에 거주하는 65세 이상의 독거노인 131명에 대해 면접조사를 실시하고, 간이정신진단검사(SCL-90-R)를 활용하여 정신건강 수준을 측정하였다. 주요 분석결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 본 조사대상자의 정신건강 수준은 3.53점(5점 척도)로서 상당히 심각한 수준인 것으로 나타났으며, 이는 독거노인의 정신건강 수준이 일반노인에 비해 훨씬 열악하다는 것을 보여주는 결과이다. 정신건강의 하위영역별로 우울증이 가장 심각했으며, 신체화 증상도 매우 심각한 수준인 것으로 나타났다. 공포불안, 강박증, 불안증 등의 증상도 심각한 수준이었다. 둘째, 사회인구학적 변인이 정신건강 수준에 어떤 차이를 가져오는지를 살펴보기 위한 변량분석 결과에 의하면, 성별과 교육수준이 유의한 변수로 나타났다. 셋째, 독거노인 정신건강 수준의 영향요인을 예측하기 위한 위계적 회귀분석 결과에 의하면, 본 연구에서 설정한 독립변수 13개를 모두 투입한 최종모델에서 독거노인의 정신건강 수준에 영향을 미치는 변수는 8개였으며, 설명력은 생활만족도, ADL, IADL, 복지서비스 지원, 비공식적 지지 등 사회적 지원 변수의 순서로 높게 나타났다. 본 연구에서는 위의 결과를 토대로 하여 거시적, 미시적 차원의 함의를 제시하였다.

노인정신장애인의 프로그램 욕구에 미치는 영향 요인 -부산지역 정신요양원을 중심으로- (Factors Effected on Program Needs of the Elderly People with Mental Illness -Focused on the Nursing Home in Busan-)

  • 본 연구는 노인정신장애인에 대한 연구가 부재한 상황에서 그들의 인구사회학적 특성과 기능수준을 파악하여 두 요소가 어떻게 그들의 정신보건서비스 욕구에 영향을 미치는지 검토하여 노인정신장애인의 욕구를 반영한 적합한 정신보건서비스를 계획하는데 있어 기초자료를 제공함에 있다. 분석결과, 노인정신장애인의 인구사회학적 특성 중 주거유형, 질환기간, 기관이용결정자는 프로그램 욕구에 유의미한 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났으며, 공통적으로 건강증진프로그램과 퇴원지원프로그램 욕구를 나타내었다. 그리고 대체적으로 노인정신장애인의 기능수준은 양호하였으며, 기능수준에 따라서는 집단프로그램, 상담프로그램, 자원연결프로그램 순으로 욕구를 보였다.

전중(膻中)($CV_{17}$) 황련해독탕약침(黃連解毒湯藥鍼)이 정신적 스트레스를 가한 성인의 심박 변이도에 미치는 영향 (Effect of Hwangryunhaedok-tang Pharmacopuncture at $CV_{17}$(Jeonjung : 膻中) for Mental Stress on Short-term Analysis of Heart Rate Variability)

  • Objectives : The purpose of this study was to assess the effect of Hwangryunhaedok-tang pharmacopuncture at $CV_{17}$ for reducing mental stress using power spectrum analysis of the heart rate variability(HRV). Methods : 30 healthy volunteers(control group: 15, experimental group: 15) participated in this study. After instrumentation and 5-minutes rest period, mental stress by operation was provided for 5-minutes. HRV was recorded before and after the mental stress. And then the control group rested for 15-minutes. The experimental group was injected Hwangryunhaedok-tang pharmacopuncture at $CV_{17}$ and rested for 15-minutes. And then HRV was recorded. Results : In simple rest group, LF norm and HF norm showed a significant change after mental stress. In pharmacopuncture group, LF norm, HF norm and LF/HF showed a significant change after mental stress. But there were no significant difference between two groups(p>0.05). In pharmacopuncture group, LF norm, HF norm and LF/HF showed a significant change after pharmacopuncture injection. There were significant difference between two groups(p<0.01). Conclusions : The result suggests that Hwangryunhaedok-tang pharmacopuncture at $CV_{17}$(Jeonjung) can regulate and prevent the alteration of autonomic nerve system due to mental stress.

의미간호요법이 정신질환자의 생의 목적과 의미발견 및 희망에 미치는 효과-의미간호요법 프로그램의 개발과 적용에 관한 연구- (An Effect of Nursing -Logotherapy on Purpose in Life and Finding Meaning, and Hope of the Patients of Mental illness)

  • The purpose of this study was to present an effective nursing intervention for helping the patients of mental illness by determining the effect of nursing-logotherapy on purpose in life and finding meaning, and hope of the patients of mental illness by developing and applicating program of nursing-logotherapy The data was collected from March to September in 1995, and its subjects were the patients of mental illness who was appropriate to the standard of this study among the patients of mental illness who hospitalized into Neuro-Psychiatric ward of M. and B. hospital located in Pusan area. They were all 60 subjects, thirty of them for an experimental group and the rest for a control group. The research design was an equivalent control group pre-test and post-test design as an quasi-experimental research and the conceptual frame- work was an interpersonal model. The data analysis was computerized by using SP-SS/PC$^{+}$ and hypothesis testing was done with 2-way ANCOVA and simple correlation. Results were summarized as follows : 1. There were significant changes of purpose in life and finding meaning in an experimental group be-fore and after treatment and a control group be-fore and after. 2. There were significant changes of hope in an experimental group before and after treatment and a control group before and after. 3. The positive correlation between purpose in life and finding meaning and hope of the patients of mental illness were observed. Consequently, nursing-logotherapy could significantly increase the purpose in life and finding mean-ing, and of hope, so it could be said an effective nursing intervention for helping the healing of the patients of mental illness.s.

고등학교 남학생들의 스포츠 참가와 스포츠 유능감이 정신건강에 미치는 영향 (Influence of Sport Participation and Sport Competence on Mental Health for High School Students)

  • 본 연구는 고등학교 남학생들의 스포츠 참가와 스포츠 유능감, 그리고 정신건강이 학년에 따라 차이가 있는지, 그리고 스포츠 참가와 스포츠 유능감이 정신건강에 영향을 미치는지 살펴보고자 하였다. 이를 위해 서울소재 고등학교 남학생들을 모집단으로 하여 448명 을 표집하였다. 가설 검증은 일원 변량분석과 다중회귀분석 등의 통계분석을 통해 이루어졌다. 연구결과 첫째, 학년에 따른 스포츠 참가, 스포츠 유능감, 그리고 정신건강의 차이에 있어서는 1학년과 2학년이 3학년에 비해 참가 강도가 높은 것으로 나타났으며, 정신건강의 하위 척도인 우울에 있어서 2학년이 가장 높게 나타났다. 둘째, 스포츠 참가 정도는 정신건강에 영향을 미치지 않은 반면, 스포츠 유능감은 정신건강 하위 척도인 불안, 우울, 적대감 모두에 긍정적으로 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다. 따라서 고등학교 남학생들의 정신건강을 위해서는 단순히 스포츠 활동 참가를 증가시키기보다는 스포츠 유능감을 높이기 위한 노력을 기울이는 것이 바람직하다.

달의 위상변화에 대한 예비 초등교사의 가능한 정신모형 (THE STRUCTURES AND POSSIBLE SOURCES OF PRESERVICE ELEMENTARY TEACHERS' MENTAL MODELS ABOUT MOON PHASES)

  • 본 연구에서는 예비 초등 교사들을 대상으로 달의 위상변화에 대한 정신모형과 그 모형에 영향을 주는 요소들을 조사하였다. 본 연구에 참여한 예비교사는 교육대 학교 1학년(22명)과 2학년(21명) 학생이다. 자료 수집은 지필 검사와 개별 면담을 통해 이루어졌다. 연구 결과, 예비 초등 교사들은 달의 위상변화에 대한 설명들이 과학적 모형과는 다른 합성 정신모형들을 가지고 있었으며, '가리기 이론'이 그들의 정신 모형에 가장 큰 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다. 또한 예비 초등 교사들이 갖는 천문현상의 합성 정신모형의 구조와 근원을 알아보기 위하여 그들의 정신 모형들을 형성하는 틀 이론과 특정 이론을 집중적으로 탐색하였다.

주제전문사서로서의 정신보건사서 양성 교육과정 개발 (Developmental of Curriculum for Training Professional Librarians Specializing in the Field of Mental Health)

  • 본 연구는 사회구조의 변화 및 새로운 도서관 서비스의 출현에 대한 대응기제로서 정신보건사서라는 전문 인력 양성 교육과정을 개발하여 제시하는데 목적이 있다. 이를 위해 문헌 조사를 통해 독서치료의 특징, 정신보건사서의 역할, 자격요건과 양성제도를 살펴보고, 이에 따른 계속 교육의 필요성과 실제 교육과정 개발 시 고려해야 할 일련의 단계를 고찰하였다. 나아가 정신보건사서 양성을 위하여 문헌정보학과 교과목에 독서치료 영역에 해당하는 교과목을 개설하고, 향후 교과과정 편성에 있어서 주제전문화를 강화하기 위한 방안의 필요성, 그리고 우리나라 현실에서 정신보건사서의 양성을 위한 바람직한 방안으로 문헌정보학과 대학원에 '정신보건사서' 과정을 설치할 것을 제안하였다. 본 연구의 결과는 주제전문사서의 자질 개발과 확충을 위한 지침으로서, 주제전문사서의 역할 확립과 우리나라 도서관 현장과 학계의 당면 문제를 해결할 수 있는 기초 자료를 제공하게 될 것이다.

일부 치위생과 학생의 시험불안, 자아존중감과 정신건강과의 관계 (Impact of Self-Esteem and Test Anxiety on Mental Health in students of Dental Hygienics)

  • This study is a descriptive paper addressing the relationship between test anxiety, self-esteem and the mental health levels of freshmen and third year students of Dental Hygienics. In late 2011, we received a total of 298 questionnaires from freshmen and third year Dental Hygienics students of three South Korean universities, located specifically in Seoul and Gyeonggi-do. The timing of this questionnaire was significant because it was one week prior to midterm examinations. The results were as follows:1. There was a statistically significant relationship between age (t=3.017, p<.001) and grade(t=2.665, p<0.05), subjective health status(t=27.513, p<.001). 2. The lower the participants' reported mental health in general, the higher their level of test anxiety (r=.565, p<.001), broken down into two subdivisions: cognitive text anxiety (r=526, p<.001) and emotional test anxiety (r=.534, p<.001). 3. When considering the factors that influence the general mental health of participants, there were age differences. For first year students, their subjeetive health status (${\ss}$=-.300, p<.001) and test anxiety (${\ss}$=.530, p<.001) were significant. For third year students, this was also true (subjective mental condition: ${\ss}$=-.242, p<.001 and test anxiety: ${\ss}$=.350, p<.001) but self-worth was also significant (${\ss}$=.377, p<.001). The results of this study suggest that the key factors that influence the mental health level of students Dental Hygienics are test anxiety, subjective appraisal of health level, and general self-worth. A systematic approach is therefore needed to improve students' mental health and reduce test anxiety. Health management programs which address and test students' physical health will also be important in improving student performance and welfare.

3-dimensional reconstruction of mandibular canal at the interforaminal region using micro-computed tomography in Korean

  • PURPOSE. The purpose of this study was to identify the complex course of the mandibular canal using 3D reconstruction of microCT images and to provide the diagram for clinicians to help them understand at the interforaminal region in Korean. MATERIALS AND METHODS. Twenty-six hemimandibles obtained from cadavers were examined using microCT, and the images were reconstructed. At both the midpoint of mental foramen and the tip of anterior loop, the bucco-lingual position, the height from the mandibular inferior border, the horizontal distance between two points, and position relative to tooth site on the mandibular canal were measured. The angle that the mental canal diverges from the mandibular canal was measured in posterior-superior and lateral-superior direction. RESULTS. The buccal distance from the mandibular canal was significantly much shorter than lingual distance at both the mental foramen and the tip of anterior loop. The mandibular canal at the tip of anterior loop was significantly located closer to buccal side and higher than at the mental foramen. And the mental canal most commonly diverged from the mandibular canal below the first premolar by approximately $50^{\circ}$ posterior-superior and $41^{\circ}$ lateral-superior direction, which had with a mean length of 5.19 mm in front of the mental foramen, and exited to the mental foramen below the second premolar. CONCLUSION. These results suggest that it could form a hazardous tetrahedron space at the interforaminal region, thus, the clinician need to pay attention to the width of a premolar tooth from the mental foramen during dental implant placement.
