In this study, the second-order Nomoto's nonlinear expansion model was implemented as a Tagaki-Sugeno fuzzy model based on the heading angular velocity to design the automatic steering system of a ship considering nonlinear elements. A Tagaki-Sugeno fuzzy PID controller was designed using the applied fuzzy membership functions from the Tagaki-Sugeno fuzzy model. The linear models and fuzzy membership functions of each operating point of a given nonlinear expansion model were simultaneously tuned using a genetic algorithm. It was confirmed that the implemented Tagaki-Sugeno fuzzy model could accurately describe the given nonlinear expansion model through the Zig-Zag experiment. The optimal parameters of the sub-PID controller for each operating point of the Tagaki-Sugeno fuzzy model were searched using a genetic algorithm. The evaluation function for searching the optimal parameters considered the route extension due to course deviation and the resistance component of the ship by steering. By adding a penalty function to the evaluation function, the performance of the automatic steering system of the ship could be evaluated to track the set course without overshooting when changing the course. It was confirmed that the sub-PID controller for each operating point followed the set course to minimize the evaluation function without overshoot when changing the course. The outputs of the tuned sub-PID controllers were combined in a weighted average method using the membership functions of the Tagaki-Sugeno fuzzy model. The proposed Tagaki-Sugeno fuzzy PID controller was applied to the second-order Nomoto's nonlinear expansion model. As a result of examining the transient response characteristics for the set course change, it was confirmed that the set course tracking was satisfactorily performed.
This paper introduces two concepts, specialization and representation, to evaluate activities of standing committees in Korean Assembly. Previous studies have criticized the committees based on frequent change of committee membership. After analyzing the empirical data of Finance and Economy Committee, it turns out that different from the previous arguments, the committee reaches the high level of activities in the perspective of specialization and representation. Changing of committee membership, after considering direction of the change and period of leaving the committee, is less happened than they are supposed. If voting by proxy or absentee voting were allowed, the frequency of the changing membership would be decreased. Study on Finance and Economy committee reveals that the extent of participation of the committee members is similar to the that of the floor meeting and that the number of participants and hours for each meeting display the characteristics of deliberative democracy of committee. Unanimous decisions outnumber majority ones. Therefore, this paper insists that standing committees in Korean Assembly works much better than what they have been criticized

In fuzzy modeling for nonlinear process, the fuzzy rules are typically formed by selection of the input variables, the number of space division and membership functions. The Generation of fuzzy rules for nonlinear processes have the problem that the number of fuzzy rules exponentially increases. To solve this problem, complex nonlinear process can be modeled by generating the fuzzy rules by means of fuzzy division of input space. Therefore, in this paper, rules of non-fuzzy inference systems are generated by partitioning the input space in the scatter form using HCM clustering algorithm. The premise parameters of the rules are determined by membership matrix by means of HCM clustering algorithm. The consequence part of the rules is represented in the form of polynomial functions and the consequence parameters of each rule are identified by the standard least-squares method. And lastly, we evaluate the performance and the nonlinear characteristics using the data widely used in nonlinear process. Through this experiment, we showed that high-dimensional nonlinear systems can be modeled by a very small number of rules.
In this paper, we analyze the input-output characteristics of fuzzy inference systems according to the division of entire input spaces and the fuzzy reasoning methods to identify the fuzzy model for nonlinear process. And fuzzy model is expressed by identifying the structure and parameters of the system by means of input variables, fuzzy partition of input spaces, and consequence polynomial functions. In the premise part of the rules Min-Max method using the minimum and maximum values of input data set and C-Means clustering algorithm forming input data into the hard clusters are used for identification of fuzzy model and membership function is used as a series of triangular membership function. In the consequence part of the rules fuzzy reasoning is conducted by two types of inferences. The identification of the consequence parameters, namely polynomial coefficients, of the rules are carried out by the standard least square method. And lastly, we use gas furnace process which is widely used in nonlinear process and we evaluate the performance for this nonlinear process.
Automatic guidance of farm tractors would improve productivity by reducing operator fatigue and increasing machine performance. To control tractors within $\pm$5cm of the desired path, fuzzy and adaptive steering controllers were developed to evaluate their characteristics and performance. Two input variables were position and yaw errors, and a steering command was fed to tractor model as controller output. Trapezoidal membership functions were used in the fuzzy controller, and a minimum-variance adaptive controller was implemented into the 2-DOF discrete-time input-output model. For unit-step and composite paths, a dynamic tractor simulator was used to test the controllers developed. The results showed that both controllers could control the tractor within $\pm$5cm error from the defined path and the position error of tractor by fuzzy controller was the bigger of the two. Through simulations, the output of self-tuning adaptive controller was relatively smooth, but the fuzzy controller was very sensitive by the change of gain and the shape of membership functions. Contrarily, modeling procedure of the fuzzy controller was simple, but the adaptive controller had very complex procedure of design and showed that control performance was affected greatly by the order of its model.
This paper introduces a new architecture of genetically optimized self-organizing fuzzy polynomial neural networks by means of information granulation. The conventional SOFPNNs developed so far are based on mechanisms of self-organization and evolutionary optimization. The augmented genetically optimized SOFPNN using Information Granulation (namely IG_gSOFPNN) results in a structurally and parametrically optimized model and comes with a higher level of flexibility in comparison to the one we encounter in the conventional FPNN. With the aid of the information granulation, we determine the initial location (apexes) of membership functions and initial values of polynomial function being used in the premised and consequence part of the fuzzy rules respectively. The GA-based design procedure being applied at each layer of genetically optimized self-organizing fuzzy polynomial neural networks leads to the selection of preferred nodes with specific local characteristics (such as the number of input variables, the order of the polynomial, a collection of the specific subset of input variables, and the number of membership function) available within the network. To evaluate the performance of the IG_gSOFPNN, the model is experimented with using gas furnace process data. A comparative analysis shows that the proposed IG_gSOFPNN is model with higher accuracy as well as more superb predictive capability than intelligent models presented previously.

This study proposes a method for improvement of PD type fuzzy controller. The method includes self tuner using gradient algorithm that is one of the optimization algorithms. The proposed controller improves simple Takagi-Sugeno type FLC (Fuzzy Logic Control) system. The simple Takagi-Sugeno type FLC system changes nonlinear characteristic to linear parameters of consequent membership function. The simple FLC system could control the system by calibrating parameter of consequent membership function that changes the system response. While the determination on parameter of the simple FLC system works well only partially, the proposed method is needed to determine parameters that work for overall response. The simple FLC system doesn't predict the response characteristics. While the simple FLC system works just like proportional part of PID, our system includes derivative part to predict the next response. The proposed controller is constructed with P part and D part FLC system that characteristic parameter on system response is changed by self tuner for effective response. Since the proposed controller doesn't include integral part, it can't eliminate steady state error. So we include a gain to eliminate the steady state error.
This paper presents the development of new algorithm for identifying and tracking the convective cells in three dimensional reflectivity fields in Cartesian coordinates. First, the radar volume data in spherical coordinate system has been converted into Cartesian coordinate system by the bilinear interpolation. The three-dimensional convective cell has then been identified as a group of spatially consecutive grid points using reflectivity and volume thresholds. The tracking algorithm utilizes a fuzzy logic with four membership functions and their weights. The four fuzzy parameters of speed, area change ratio, reflectivity change ratio, and axis transformation ratio have been newly defined. In order to make their membership functions, the normalized frequency distributions are calculated using the pairs of manually matched cells in the consecutive radar reflectivity fields. The algorithms have been verified for two convective events in summer season. Results show that the algorithms have properly identified storm cells and tracked the same cells successively. The developed algorithms may provide useful short-term forecasting or nowcasting capability of convective storm cells and provide the statistical characteristics of severe weather.
In Human Reliability Analysis(HRA), the uncertainties involved in many factors that affect human reliability have to be represented as the quantitative forms. Conventional probability- based human reliability theory is used to evaluate the effect of those uncertainties but it is pointed out that the actual human reliability should be different from that of conventional one. Conventional HRA makes use of error rates, however, it is difficult to collect data enough to estimate these error rates, and the estimates of error rates are dependent only on engineering judgement. In this paper, the error possibility that is proposed by Onisawa is used to represent human reliability, and the error possibility is obtained by use of fuzzy reasoning that plays an important role to clarify the relation between human reliability and human error. Also, assuming these factors are connected to the top event through Fault Tree structure, the influence and correlation of these factors are measured by fuzzy operation. When a fuzzy operation is applied to Fault Tree Analysis, it is possible to simplify the operation applying the logic disjuction and logic conjuction to structure function, and the structure of human reliability can be represented as membership function of the top event. Also, on the basis of the the membership function, the characteristics of human reliability can be evaluated by use of the concept of pattern recognition.
The handwriting based person identification systems use their designer's perceived structural properties of handwriting as features. In this paper, we present a system that uses those structural properties as features that graphologists and expert handwriting analyzers use for determining the writer's personality traits and for making other assessments. The advantage of these features is that their definition is based on sound historical knowledge (i.e., the knowledge discovered by graphologists, psychiatrists, forensic experts, and experts of other domains in analyzing the relationships between handwritten stroke characteristics and the phenomena that imbeds individuality in stroke). Hence, each stroke characteristic reflects a personality trait. We have measured the effectiveness of these features on a subset of handwritten Devnagari and Latin script datasets from the Center for Pattern Analysis and Recognition (CPAR-2012), which were written by 100 people where each person wrote three samples of the Devnagari and Latin text that we have designed for our experiments. The experiment yielded 100% correct identification on the training set. However, we observed an 88% and 89% correct identification rate when we experimented with 200 training samples and 100 test samples on handwritten Devnagari and Latin text. By introducing the majority voting based rejection criteria, the identification accuracy increased to 97% on both script sets.
