  • This study investigated characteristics of buckling load and effective buckling length by member rigidity of dome-typed space frame which was sensitive to initial conditions. A critical point and a buckling load were computed by analyzing the eigenvalues and determinants of the tangential stiffness matrix. The hexagonal pyramid model and star dome were selected for the case study in order to examine the nodal buckling and member buckling in accordance with member rigidity. From the numerical results, an effective buckling length factor of adopted models was bigger than that of Euler buckling for the case of fixed boundary. These numerical models indicated that the influence of nodal buckling was greater than that of member buckling as member rigidity was higher. Besides, there was a tendency that the bifurcation appeared on the equilibrium path before limit point in the member buckling model.

  • In case of rectangular latticed pattern which shearing rigidity is very small, it has a concern to drop Buckling-strength considerably by external force. So, by means of system to increase buckling-strength, there is a method of construction that lattice of dome is reinforced by braced member. In a case like this, shearing rigidity of braced member increase buckling-strength of the whole of structure and can be designed economically from the viewpoint of practice. Therefore, this paper is aimed at investigating how much does rigidity of braced member united with latticed member bearing principal stress of dome increase buckling-strength of the whole of structure. the subject of study is rectangular latticed domes that are a set of 2-way lattice dome which grid is simple and number of member gathering at junction is small. Analysis method is based on FEM dealing with the geometrically nonlinear deflection problems.

  • A linearly tapered, doubly symmetric thin-walled closed member, such as power-transmission towers and tourist towers, are often characterized by local variation in mass and/or rigidity, due to additional mass and rigidity. On the preliminary stage of design the closed-form solution is more effective than the finite element method. In order to propose approximate solutions, the discontinuous and local variation in mass and/or rigidity is treated continuously by means of a usable function proposed by Takabatake(1988, 1991, 1993). Thus, a simplified analytical method and approximate solutions for the free and forced transverse vibrations in linear elasticity are demonstrated in general by means of the Galerkin method. The solutions proposed here are examined from the results obtained using the Galerkin method and Wilson-${\theta}$ method and from the results obtained using NASTRAN.

  • Single angle or channel with thin-walled open section can be used as compression member for example as web member in truss. In this case the inevitable eccentricity due to fabrication is commonly neglected in structural design. However eccentricity effect should be considered in the member design, especially in case of compression member. The critical loads of compression members that buckle by twisting or by a combination of bending and twisting are to be determined by solving governing differential equations. In this paper, the investigations are limited to the rolled channels([), equal-leg angles(L), lipped channels(C) and the applied loads are assumed to have some eccentricities.

  • This paper is concerned with the change of joint rigidity in estimating the degree of semi-rigidity of connections and the buckling load in a single layer latticed dome. The estimations are based on information about the ratio for the rotational stiffness of the connection to the flexural stiffness of the member and the minimum eigenvalue of a structure for pinned, semi-rigid and completely rigid cases, respectively. Connection characteristics are reflected in the ratio control of joint rigidity for the DOFs to be related using the spring element by FEM.

  • This study analyzes the four composition elements : profile, anchorage and connection, material and member rigidity, stability, as the main composition design elements of flexure structure systems, in order to explore possibilities for more various structure designs in architectures with flexure structure system. It also examines typical design methods that use the mentioned four composition elements. At the results, this research presents an understanding of the differences between funicular shape and non-funicular shape and mechanical features of the shapes in the profile element, regarding to the ratio of rise height to span length(f/l). Also, the typical design methods are presented for the designable usages of the hinge joints and the fix joints, and for the applications of member rigidity expressed by the index of the ratio of member depth to span length(d/l). And it was presented that connection styles, addition of brace members, placement of shear walls are the main design methods in the stability element. This data would be useful to architectural designs concerning integrated design with structures.

  • The body structure of a bus is generally assembled by using various spot welded box sectional members. The shape of window pillar joint is ordinarily built up by T-type member. It has been shown that T-type member has problems like high stress concentrations, low fatigue strength and low structural rigidity. In this study, to solve these problems a new approach to optimize the design of the bus window pillar joint was tried by FEM analysis and experiments. To describe the shape of the gusset connecting the vertical and horizontal members of the T-type window pillar joint B-spline curve was adopted and this curve was optimized . It was found that the new model developed could effectively improve fatigue durability an structural rigidity.

  • This study proposed to beam-column joint model consisting of different type structural member to develop new structural system in the structural viewpoint as to a method to overcome various problem according to change of construction environment. This study promoted rigidity and capacity to stiffen reinforced concrete for steel structure end to increase rigidity of long spaned steel beam, and welt to steel flange to anchor U-shaped main bar of SRC structure end to easy stress flow between the different type structure. Through the series of experiments, proposed to possibility of this joint model, and investigated joint rigidity and capacity.

  • In this paper, we propose to a method to estimate the elasto-plastic buckling for single layer latticed domes. First, we assume that each member consists of the rigid zone and elastic spring at both end joint, the elastic element and three elasto-plastic spring to judge for yeilding the member. Next, the member which has most influence on buckling for structures is determined by a distributed pattern of the strain energy which is calculated through linear eigenvalue analysis. And then, normalized slenderness ratio of the element is derived considering the axial force at elastic buckling load. Later, we execute elasto-plastic nonlinear analysis that based on loading increasement method and displacement increasement method. From this results, we discusses the effect of the joint rigidity and the half open angle $\theta$$_{0}$ on the buckling strength of single layer lattice domes ; (1) how the joint rigidity contributes to the reduction of buckling loads, (2) how the reduction can be interrelated to compressive strength curves in terms of the generalized slenderness for the member most relevant to the overall buckling of domes.s.
