This paper proposes a Direct Power Control (DPC) scheme of improved command tracking capability for Permanent Magnet Synchronous Generator (PMSG) Medium Voltage (MV) Wind Turbines. Benchmarking is performed based on a neutral point clamped three-level back-to-back type voltage source converter. It is introduced to design the DPC modeling and propose DPC scheme of a three-level NPC (3L-NPC) converter. During the fault condition in wind farms, the proposed control scheme directly controls the generated output power to the command value from the hierarchical wind farm controller. The proposed control scheme is compared with conventional control scheme as respect to loss and thermal analysis. The DPC scheme of improved command tracking capability is confirmed through PLECS simulations. Simulation result shows that proposed control scheme achieves a much shorter transient time in a step response of generated output power. The proposed control scheme makes it possible to provide a good dynamic performance for PMSG MV wind turbine to generate a high quality output power under grid fault condition.
This paper provides a comparison of high power semiconductor devices in 5MW-class Permanent Magnet Synchronous Generator (PMSG) Medium Voltage (MV) wind turbines. High power semiconductor devices of IGBT module type, IGBT press-pack type, and IGCT of both 4.5kV and 6.5kV are considered in this paper. Benchmarking is performed based on neutral-point clamed 3-level back-to-back type voltage source converter supplied from grid voltage of 4160V. The feasible number of semiconductor devices in parallel is designed through the loss analysis considering both conduction and switching losses under the given operating conditions of 5MW-class PMSG wind turbines, particularly for the application in offshore wind farms. The loss analysis is confirmed through PLECS simulations. The comparison result shows that IGBT press-pack type semiconductor device has the highest efficiency and IGCT has the lowest cost factor considering the necessary auxiliary components.
This paper investigates characteristics of high power semiconductor device losses in 5MW-class Permanent Magnet Synchronous Generator (PMSG) Medium Voltage (MV) wind turbines. High power semiconductor device of press-pack type IGCT of 6.5kV is considered in this paper. Analysis is performed based on neutral point clamped (NPC) 3-level back-to-back type voltage source converter (VSC) supplied from grid voltage of 4160V. This paper describes total loss distribution at worst case under inverter and rectifier operating mode for the power semiconductor switches. The loss analysis is confirmed through PLECS simulations. In addition, the loss factors due to di/dt snubber and ac input filter are presented. The investigation result shows that IGCT type semiconductor devices generate the total efficiency of 97.74% under the rated condition.
In this study, an automatic command mode transition strategy of direct power control (DPC) is proposed for permanent magnet synchronous generators (PMSGs) medium-voltage (MV) offshore wind turbines (WTs). Benchmarking against the control methods are performed based on a three-level neutral-point-clamped (NPC) back-to-back type voltage source converter (VSC). The ramping rate criterion of complex power is utilized to select the switching vector in DPC for a three-level NPC converter. With a grid command and an MPPT mode transition strategy, the proposed control method automatically controls the generated output power to satisfy a grid requirement from the hierarchical wind farm controller. The automatic command mode transition strategy of DPC is confirmed through PLECS simulations based on Matlab. The simulation result of the automatic mode transition strategy shows that the proposed control method of VOC and DPC achieves a much shorter transient time of generated output power than the conventional control methods of MPPT and VOC under a step response. The proposed control method helps provide a good dynamic performance for PMSGs MV offshore WTs, thereby generating high quality output power.
A new type of topology with medium-frequency-transformer (MFT) isolation for medium voltage wind power generation systems is proposed in this paper. This type of converter is a high density power conversion system, with high performance features suitable for next generation wind power systems in either on-shore or off-shore applications. The proposed topology employs single-phase cascaded multi-level AC-AC converters on the grid side and three phase matrix converters on the generator side, which are interfaced by medium frequency transformers. This avoids DC-Link electrolytic capacitors and/or resonant L-C components in the power flow path thereby improving the power density and system reliability. Several configurations are given to fit different applications. The modulation and control strategy has been detailed. As two important part of the whole system, a novel single phase AC-AC converter topology with its reliable six-step switching technique and a novel symmetrical 11-segment modulation strategy for two stage matrix converter (TSMC) is proposed at the special situation of medium frequency chopping. The validity of the proposed concept has been verified by simulation results and experiment waveforms from a scaled down laboratory prototype.
MTP cell size를 줄이기 위해 TG transistor와 select transistor를 위한 PW(P-Well)과 CG capacitor를 위한 PW 2개만 사용하였으며, DNW(Deep N-Well)은 512bit MTP cell array에 하나만 사용하였다.
In this paper a modular high performance MV-to-LV rectifier based on a cascaded H-bridge rectifier is presented. The proposed rectifier can directly connect to the medium voltage levels and provide a low-voltage and highly-stable DC interface with the consumer applications. The input stage eliminates the necessity for heavy and bulky step-down transformers. It corrects the input power factor and maintains the voltage balance among the individual DC buses. The second stage includes the high frequency parallel-output DC/DC converters which prepares the galvanic isolation, regulates the output voltage, and attenuates the low frequency voltage ripple ($2f_{line}$) generated by the first stage. The parallel-output converters can work in interleaving mode and the active load-current sharing technique is utilized to balance the load power among them. The detailed analysis for modeling and control of the proposed structure is presented. The validity and performance of the proposed topology is verified by simulation and experimental results.
for many years already, testing laboratories, research institutes and manufactures try to find a reliable water tree accelerated ageing test that is able to show whether a polymer Medium Voltage cable os susceptible to water treeing or not. Test on laboratory samples, model cable designs, and fell size cable are presented. Apart form aging, another important aspect of any accelerated aging test is the right choice of th preconditioning method. THTS paper is the analysis of weibull distribution method after an accelerated aging test of MV(Medium Cable) cable.
In this paper, the change history of various types of MV (Medium Voltage) cables was investigated. In addition, the statistical life expectancy of each type was calculated by using the operation data and the failure data. For cut-off year, 10 years was applied, and realistically applicable statistical life expectancy was calculated by correcting the cause of failure entered by mistake. The life expectancy of FR-CNCO-W was calculated as 51.2 years, CNCV-W 38.1 years, and CNCV 31.4 years and the overall average is 33.8 years. Currently, the life expectancy of TR CNCV-W is 29.4 years, but it is estimated that the lifespan will be extended if failure data is accumulated. As a result, it is expected that life expectancy results can be applied to Asset Management System (AMS) in the future.

This paper proposes a novel common-mode voltage (CMV) elimination (CMV-EL) method based on model predictive control (MPC) to eliminate CMV for three-level T-type inverters (3LT2Is). In the proposed MPC method, only six medium and one zero voltage vectors (VVs) (6MV1Z) that generate zero CMV are considered as candidates to perform the MPC. Moreover, the influence of dead-time effects on the CMV of the MPC-based 6MV1Z method is investigated, and the candidate VVs are redesigned by pre-excluding the VVs that will cause CMV fluctuations during the dead time from 6MV1Z. Only three or five VVs are included to perform optimization in every control period, which can significantly reduce the computational complexity. Thus, a small control period can be implemented in the practical applications to achieve improved grid current performance. With the proposed CMV-EL method, the CMV of the $3LT^2Is$ can be effectively eliminated. In addition, the proposed CMV-EL method can balance the neutral point potentials (NPPs) and yield satisfactory performance for grid current tracking in steady and dynamic states. Simulation and experimental results are presented to verify the effectiveness of the proposed method.
