  • Objectives: The purpose of this study is to investigate the trends in acupuncture research on Internet addiction disorder. Methods: Clinical research papers on acupuncture treatment were searched and selected. Seven databases, including English, Chinese, Japanese, and Korean databases, were searched systematically. Non-clinical, non-acupuncture, and unpublished studies were excluded. The characteristics of the included articles were described, and these articles were assessed by the Risk of Bias (RoB) tool or the Risk of Bias Assessment for Non-randomized Studies (RoBANS) tool. Results: Ten clinical studies on Internet addiction disorder were finally selected, and all of these studies were published in China. The electroacupuncture (EA) method was used in most of the acupuncture treatment studies. Most of the psychotherapy studies used cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) in the control group. Most of the studies showed effective results. The results of this study suggest that the combination of acupuncture and psychotherapy is more effective than either treatment modality alone. However, the quality of these clinical studies was low. Conclusions: According to this study, acupuncture treatment seems to have excellent effects in Internet addiction disorder. However, the quality of most studies was low. Therefore, higher quality research on Internet addiction disorder is required.

  • Psychotherapy is an area of psychology that helps/treats people who are experiencing psychological and emotional difficulties by non-medical means. Psychotherapists build up theoretical backgrounds, profiles, and/or techniques to adequately assist clients and participants in the treatment of these disorders. Despite the fact that South Korea has a history of nearly 20 years in the field of bibliotherapy, there has not been a developed or proposed psychotherapy treatment model that suits many objectives and goals utilizing bibliotherapy. In this study, based on the person-centered counseling theory, we intend to develop a model and approach focusing on the clients-participants who are subject to bibliotherapy. This study will be the basis and reference for the development of bibliotherapy model(s) suitable for various psychological objectives and goals in the future as an alternative or in addition to other psychotherapy methods and techniques.

  • Objectives : In order to make a new psychotherapeutic model in the theory of oriental medicine by means of psychoanalysis method. Methods : The research was done by comparing the contents of the Tong-Ui Po-Kam, techniques of Yang Saeng(養生術), with the psychoanalysis Results : 1. There's no difference in the mind state which a doctor has to have between the oriental doctor and the occidental doctor. You should make effort not to project yourself on a patient. A conception of 'doctor' in oriental medicine is one who trains one's mind rather than just healer. 2. Heart(心) in oriental medical conception is revealed by circulation structure of Jeong(精), Gi(氣), and Sin(神). A healthy mind comes from harmony and smooth transport of Jeong(精), Gi(氣), and Sin(神). 3. The conception similar to unconsciousness doesn't exist in oriental medicine, but the contents about the attitudes or the methods of training one’s mind correspond to unconsciousness. 4. The psychotherapy of oriental medicine emphasized mutual dynamics between emotions at present, and presented a way of treatment by describing emotions from standpoint of 'Gi(氣)'. 5. The special feature of psychological treatment in oriental medicine is that treatment is done by understanding emotions of present time as Gi (氣), and using dynamics of Gi (氣)(; 相生相剋). Also the balanced state can be kept even after treatment and prevention can be done by observing one's own unconsciousness(; training one's mind helps circulation of Jeong(精), Gi(氣), and Sin(神)) I think that we need a new realistic therapy model to develop these psychotherapy methods in oriental neuropsychiatry, through studying emotions in the theory of oriental medicine, especially Korean's emotions and spiritual training.

  • Purpose: This study investigated the effectiveness of meaning-centered psychotherapy (MCP), which is known to be a helpful psychotherapeutic intervention in distressing conditions, for patients with pancreatobiliary cancer. Materials and Methods: We recruited 37 patients with pancreatobiliary cancer from three university general hospitals and assessed their psychological characteristics. Patients who reported clinically significant emotional distress were recommended to undergo MCP. Patients who consented to MCP were provided four sessions of the therapy. Patient psychological characteristics were assessed again 2 months after MCP. For statistical comparison, outcome variables included anxiety, depression, mental adjustment to cancer, and quality of life (QoL), as well as the degree of stress and physical symptoms. Results: Sixteen patients completed the MCP and the final assessment 2 months later. In the initial assessment, the patients receiving MCP showed higher levels of anxiety and depression than those not receiving MCP, and QoL was also lower in terms of role function, emotional function, social function, and global QoL. At the 2-month follow-up, the MCP group showed a significant improvement in anxiety (p=0.007), depression (p=0.010), and anxious preoccupation (p<0.001). In addition, QoL significantly improved in the MCP group, while there was no significant change in the non-MCP group. Conclusion: In this study, MCP showed potential therapeutic benefits against emotional distress in patients with pancreatobiliary cancer, improving their QoL.

  • Paradoxical vocal fold movement (PVFM) is characterized by aberrant vocal fold adduction. Although the exact pathogenesis is unknown, botulinum toxin injection, behavioral techniques, including speech therapy, bio-feedback, and cognitive-behavioral psychotherapy are considered for treatment of PVFM. The effectiveness of these treatments is not fully evaluated because of the rarity of disease. We present a case of 16-year-old female with sudden onset of respiratory distress associated with PVFM refractory to several treatments and spontaneously resolved later.
