  • Objectives : This study was aimed to evaluate the current status of East-West integrated treatment in stroke and brain disease and to discuss further plans. Methods : The medical records of patients who visited the stroke and brain disease center at Kyung Hee University, East-West Neo Medical Center from May 2006 to August 2010 were evaluated. The general characteristics of patients who underwent integrated treatment, trend in the number of cross referrals were initially evaluated. Later major disorders, the reasons of referrals and the number of visits in outpatients were analyzed. Results : 1. 3496 patients were referred from the eastern medical hospital to the western medical hospital and 2440 patients from the western medical hospital to the eastern medical hospital. The number of patients reached a peak alter the opening of the hospital and has decreased from then on. Referrals of female patients were more than those of male patients and patients over 50 years old were the most. 2. Admitted patients with stroke of chronic stage were most commonly referred from the eastern medical hospital to the western medical hospital and cerebral infarction was most common from the western medical hospital to the eastern medical hospital. Among the outpatients cerebral infarction topped from east to west, and stroke of chronic stage from west to east. 3. 36.6% of the patients from east to west received integrated treatment more than 3 times and 28.6% from west to east. Headache was the second most common reason to be referred from west to east and 36.7% of patients didn't continue to have either of the treatment and 30.3% received eastern treatment only, Conclusions: According to this study, chronic stroke management was successfully performed in the outpatient clinic in the form of East-West integration treatment. Further research on other diseases such as headache is recommended.

  • Objective : The purpose of this study is to explore the effectiveness of a perceptual motor program in promoting visual motor and motor control outcomes in a child with Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) who is enrolled in an elementary school. Methods : The subject is 8-year-old boy who was diagnosed with ADHD but did not receive medication. Research design is a single-subject A-B-A(follow-up). Baseline and follow-up phase were 3 sessions and intervention phase were 8 sessions. After performing 40 minutes of free play on the baseline A and follow-up A, we used the copying subtest of the Korean Development Test of Visual Perception 2 (K-DTVP-2) for evaluating visual motor integration skill and the rope jumping subtest for motor skill. After providing the perceptual motor activity in intervention phase B, copying and ropejumping were performed. Results : The standard scores of the Copying for measuring visual motor integration skill were poor at an average of 4.7 points at baseline phase A, but maintained an average of 9.6 points at intervention phase B and an below average of 7.7 points at the follow-up phase A. In the Rope jumping for the motor skill, it was increased by 4.3 times in the baseline phase A and 5.9 times in the intervention phase B, but slightly decreased by 5 times in the follow-up phase A. Conclusion : This study suggests that perceptual motor program has a positive effect on visual motor and motor function of ADHD children.

  • Objective : The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of Ayres's sensory integration (ASI) intervention on the sensory processing ability and motor development in children with Developmental Delay. Methods : 9 children in the experimental group and 8 children in the control group participated in this study for Developmental Delay children aged 3-5 years. For research tool, the Short Sensory Profile (SSP), Peabody Developmental Motor Scale-2 (PDMS-2) are used. In the experimental group, individual sensory integration therapy according to principle of ASI was performed for twice a week, 40 minutes, and 16 times for 8 weeks. Methods for the data analysis included Mann Whitney U test, Chi-square test, Wilcoxon's signed rank test, Cohen's d test of SPSS 24.0. Results : In the ASI Intervention group, the sensory processing ability showed statistically significant difference in total score, movement sensitivity, auditory filtering and low energy/weak compared to the control group without ASI intervention (p<.05). In the ASI Intervention group, the motor development showed statistically significant difference in Gross Motor Quotient, Fine Motor Quotient and Total Motor Quotient compared to the control group without ASI intervention (p<.05). Conclusions : In this study, ASI intervention had a positive effect on the sensory processing and motor development in children with Developmental Delay.

  • In this paper, we consider hierarchical Bayes generalized linear models for the analysis of longitudinal count data. Specifically we introduce the hierarchical Bayes random effects models. We discuss implementation of the Bayes procedures via Markov chain Monte Carlo (MCMC) integration techniques. The hierarchical Baye method is illustrated with a real dataset and is compared with other statistical methods.

  • This paper describes a quantitative analysis of electromyography (EMG) measured from seven subjects performing four seated dynamic tasks. EMG signals were mom- bored using 15 surface electrodes which were placed on selected trunk and lower extrmity muscles of the right side of the body. Each EMG signal was then processed through rectification, integration, and filtering. Based on the maximum level of the processed EMG, it was found that the trunk and ankle muscles play an important role on the postural control during the seated tasks.

  • A solution scheme for the squeeze film problem using the Newton-Raphson method with a tangential matrix is presented. The integration of elasticity equation is done with the aid of isoparametric elements and the film thickness under a sinusoidal load is obtained. A new squeeze-suction phenomenon which shoㅁvs the possibility oi maintaining fluid film under cyclic positive load conditions is observed for small load and Period and large compliance parameter cases. Thia could be an interesting result in applications like the viscous hydroplaning and the biological joints.

  • Meta-analysis methods are becoming a central part of research integration in behavioral and medical science studies. The main goal of the meta-analysis is combining the quantitative findings from several studies which address the same research problem and is sharing conclusions in a published report. The purpose of this research is to develop meta-analysis approach to evaluate effectiveness of instructional program design to improve school-age children's knowledge and understanding of Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome (AIDS). To achieve this purpose, meta-analysis is applied to analyze and synthesize findings for AIDS instructional programs from several prior studies.

  • The purpose of this study was to examine overall customer satisfaction associated with medical service quality in Taiwan by integrated Kano's model and customer satisfaction index model. Another purpose was to confirmed nonlinear and asymmetric relationship of Customer Satisfaction and Quality Performance by the research outcome. By analyzing 1,100 patients or their family members, this study used the structural equation model (SEM) with AMOS software for data analysis. The results show that must-be attributes, one-dimensional attributes and attractive attributes had a direct effect on overall customer satisfaction, Surprisingly, overall customer satisfaction had positively influenced customer loyalty customer satisfaction had negatively influenced customer complaints. The study also found that customer complaints have direct effect on customer loyalty. Importantly, the study found out the must-be attributes, the attractive attributes and one-dimensional attributes increased, the level of overall customer satisfaction also increased. The customer satisfaction positively influences customer loyalty in medical service quality in Taiwan. The findings might reveal new insights for researchers dealing with quality of medical service and for hospital managers who devote resources exclusively to achieving highest possible levels of patient satisfaction.
