  • Pluripotent stem cells have been generated from two embryonic sources. ES cells are generated from ICM of blastocyst stage embryos, and embryonic germ (EG) cells are generated from primordial germ cells (PGCs). Both ES and EG cells are pluripotent and present important characteristics such as high levels of alkaline phosphatase (AP) activity, multi-cellular colony formation, normal and stable karyotypes, continuously passaging ability, and the capability of differentiation into all three embryonic germ layers.   • The purpose of this study are changing wired medical instrument's terminal into wireless and implementing BSS of Wireless Local Area Network. the wireless terminal using frequency hopping spread spectrum in ISM band transfers patients medical information data such as ECG data, Patient Disease Indication Message to AP(or Server) and it also performs that as a response of transmission request in server. we made Clinet-Server network structure support only BSS service and patient's terminal controlled by polling in server. Wireless Terminal will guarantee mobility and give doctors real time monitoring capability in office.

블라인드 채용 시 방사선사 직무기술서에서 요구하는 직업기초능력 수준 분석 (Analyzing the Levels of Vocational key competencies Required by Radiological Technologist Job Description in Blind Hiring process)

  • 본 연구에서는 방사선과 대학생을 대상으로 블라인드 채용 시 방사선사 NCS 직무기술서에서 요구하는 의사소통능력, 문제해결능력, 자기개발능력, 대인관계능력, 직업윤리의 직업기초능력에 대한 수준 분석을 통해 기초자료를 마련하고자 하였다. 2018년 11월 19일에서 11월 30일까지 S 대학교 방사선과 재학생 2, 3학년 총 79명을 대상으로 설문지를 이용하여 직업기초능력에 대한 수준을 조사 분석하였다. 직업기초능력 수준 분석 결과 대인관계능력이 2학년 71.2점, 3학년 74.9 점으로 가장 높게 나타났으며, 문제해결능력과 자기개발능력이 2학년과 3학년에서 낮게 나타났다. 대인관계능력의 하위영역에 대한 분석 결과 갈등관리 능력이 3학년 80.5점, 2학년 77.5점으로 가장 높게 나타났으며, 리더십능력이 가장 낮게 나타났다. 자기개발 능력의 하위영역에 대한 분석 결과 자아인식능력이 3학년 74.8점, 2학년 70.0점으로 가장 높게 나타났으며, 경력개발능력이 가장 낮게 나타났다. 블라인드 채용 시 방사선사 NCS 직무기술서에서 요구하는 직업기초 능력 향상을 위해 대학에서는 임상과 잘 연계된 맞춤형 정규 교육과정 개발이 필요하며, 다양한 비정규 프로그램 운영을 통해 빠르게 변화하는 의료환경에 능동적으로 대처할 수 있는 방사선사 인재 양성을 위해 노력해야 할 것이다.

Depression masquerading as chest pain in a patient with Wolff Parkinson White syndrome

  • Wolff Parkinson White (WPW) syndrome is a condition in which there is an aberrant conduction pathway between the atria and ventricles, resulting in tachycardia. A 42-year-old patient, who was treated for WPW syndrome previously, presented with chronic somatic pain. With her cardiac condition in mind, she was thoroughly worked up for a recurrence of disease. As part of routine screening of all patients at our pain clinic, she was found to have severe depression as per the Patient Health Questionnaire-9 (PHQ-9) criteria. After ruling out sinister causes, she was treated for depression using oral Duloxetine and counselling. This led to resolution of symptoms, and improved her mood and functional capability. This case highlights the use of psychological screening tools and diligent examination in scenarios as confusing as the one presented here. Addressing the psychological aspects of pain and adopting a holistic approach are as important as treatment of the primary pathology.

한의학 분야 연구개발 인력의 수급전망 및 정책제안 (Current and Future R&D Manpower Requirements and Policy Recommendations in the Korean Oriental Medicine Research Area)

  • To strengthen the R&D capability and the competitiveness of the Korean oriental medicine industry, an adequate supply of qualified R&D personnel including medical doctors of Korean oriental medicine is an important precondition. This study analyze current and future R&D manpower requirements including medical doctors in the Korean oriental medicine research area. Our analyses can be utilized for developing the government R&D manpower planning including the adequate supply of medical doctors for the Korean oriental medicine research. For the study, we conducted and analyzed a delphi survey of the experts, the principal investigators, with expertise in Korean oriental medicine research areas. The results of this study can be summarized as follows; First, in 2007 the Korean oriental medicine R&D personnel is currently under-supplied as many as 302 people including 111 medical doctors of Korean oriental medicine. The rate of under-supplied is 28.2%. Second, in 2017 the forecast shows that the R&D personnel in this area will be more severely under-supplied as many as 539 people including 185 medical doctor of Korean oriental medicine. The rate of under-supplied will be 32.6%. As a result, the confrontation of demand and supply forecasts shows that, in general, severe shortages of R&D manpower in the areas of Korean oriental medicine will result if there are not adequate manpower policy adjustment.

텅스텐 색전코일의 특성에 미치는 열처리 효과 (Effect of Heat Treatment on Properties of Tungsten Embolization Coils)

  • 본 연구에서는 혈관폐색을 위한 색전코일의 열처리 제조공정 조건을 연구하였다. 2.92mm의 알루미나 심재에 1차코일을 감은 후 475$^{\circ}C$와 600$^{\circ}C$에서 열처리하여 2차코일을 제조하였으며, 열처리 시간에 따른 2차코일의 피치간격, 내경 및 형상복원성을 평가하였다. 2차코일의 피치간격은 475$^{\circ}C$와 600$^{\circ}C$에서 각각 잠복기를 가진 후 열처리 시간이 증가함에 따라 증가하였다. 2차코일의 내경은 열처리 시간이 증가함에 딸 연속적으로 감소하였다. 이 원인은 열처리 초기에 회복에 의하여 재료의 내부에너지가 감소되면서 2차코일의 피치간격과 내경이 감소되나, 열처리 시간이 증가됨에 따라 텅스텐 표면의 산화물이 형성되면서 탄성이 증가되기 때문에 피치간격이 증가하는 것으로 분석되었다. 2차코일의 형상복원성은 텅스텐코일의 표면에 형성된 텅스텐 산화물이 탄성을 증가시킴으로 인해 열처리 시간이 증가함에 따라 연속적으로 증가하였다. 열처리 온도 영향을 비교하면 산화물형성 속도가 빠른 600$^{\circ}C$가 475$^{\circ}C$보다 더 우수한 형상복원성을 나타내었다. 텅스텐 색전코일의 제조공정 연구결과 2차코일의 피치간격, 내경 및 형상 복원성을 최적화하기 위해서는 600$^{\circ}C$에서 20분간 열처리하는 것이 적절한 조건인 것으로 조사되었다.

의대생의 전문직 사회화 과정에 대한 고찰 (Professional Socialization of Medical Students)

  • This paper concerns professional socialization of medical students. Professional socialization, in the context of this paper, means the process through which a layperson becomes a doctor equipped with professional identity and values. While medical education does not include such process in the curriculum, medical students obtain certain values and identity informally. The dependent variables were professional values and professionalism. The former means the desirable attributes required to conducting professional works such as humane attitudes, science-oriented mind, capability for organizational management. The latter means socio-political reasoning with which doctors can rationalize their privileges such as autonomy. A specially designed questionnaire was developed. The data were collected from five medical schools for 1,318 students in 1994. A total of 1,070 cases were finally included in the statistical analysis. The students emphasized the human factor in the professional values. Their attitude did not change with the grade. Other independent variables such as motives for entering a medical school, socioeconomic status, satisfaction with medical education, etc. also did not influence professinal values. It implies that professional values were not consolidated among the students. However, the factors of professionalism change significantly with the grade. It implies that the students paid more attention to socio-political issues related to doctor's interests as the grade went up. And the factor scores for professionalism were higher for those students who had more positive attitude towards doing medical practice for profit, expected higher income, and were more conservative about social reform. Other independent variables did not influence professionalism. It seems that the students also give emphasis on professionalism, like current medical doctors, mainly because of their concern with recent unfavorable changes in economic conditions of medical care providers.

All-trans-retinoic Acid Promotes Iodine Uptake Via Up-regulating the Sodium Iodide Symporter in Medullary Thyroid Cancer Stem Cells

  • Recently, the main therapy of medullary thyroid cancer (MTC) is surgical, but by which way there is a poor prognosis with a mean survival of only 5 years. In some cases, some researchers found that it is the medullary thyroid cancer stem cells (MTCSCs) that cause metastasis and recurrence. This study aimed to eradicate MTCSCs through administration of all-trans-retinoic acid (ATRA). Here we demonstrate that MTCSCs possess stemlike properties in serum-free medium. The ABCG2, OCT4 and sodium iodide symporter (NIS) were changed by ATRA. Additionally, we found that ATRA can increase the expression of NIS in vivo. All the data suggested that ATRA could increase the iodine uptake of MTCSCs through NIS.

  • The parameter, B/A, quantifies nonlinearity of the pressure-density relationship of propagation medium. This study investigated quantitative evaluation technique for healing fractured bones using this ultrasonic nonlinear parameter, B/A, obtained by the second harmonic amplitude method. A series of fundamental experiments were performed on cylinder phantoms made of aluminium, which demonstrated potential capability of nonlinear parameter B/A in the diagnosis of healing fractured bones using ultrasound.

우리나라 의용생체공학의 현황과 전망

  • This paper is a study on the design of adptive filter for QRS complex detection. We propose a simple adaptive algorithm to increase capability of noise cancelation in QRS complex detection with two stage adaptive filter. At the first stage, background noise is removed and at the next stage, only spectrum of QRS complex components is passed. Two adaptive filters can afford to keep track of the changes of both noise and QRS complex. Each adaptive filter consists of prediction error filter and FIR filter The impulse response of FIR filter uses coefficients of prediction error filter. The detection rates for 105 and 108 of MIT/BIH data base were 99.3% and 97.4% respectively.
