Study on Heat Storage and Transportation System for Recovering Non-using Low-temperature Heat (폐열회수 증대를 위한 열운송 축열 시스템 특성 연구)

  • Non-used waste heat has recently been paid special attention due to several global warming regulation and energy cost rising. In this study, therefore, thermal energy storage system which uses a solid type heat media has been investigated about the possibility of heat accumulation and heat release for thermal energy storage system. 35kWh of bench-scale thermal storage system was used to investigate the characteristics of the solid type heat media. From the result, it is shown that a solid type heat media should be divided to supply constant heat to the customers' side. It is also shown the flow direction should be considered to reduce temperature difference between top and bottom sides in the thermal storage system.

  • For real-time interactive multimedia operations, such as video uploading, video play, fast-forward, and fast-rewind, solid state disk (SSD)-based storage systems for video streaming servers are becoming more important. Random access rates in storage systems increase significantly with the number of users; it is thus difficult to simultaneously serve many users with HDD-based storage systems, which have low random access performance. Because there is no mechanical operation in NAND flash-based SSDs, they outperform HDDs in terms of flexible random access operation. In addition, due to the multichannel architecture of SSDs, they perform similarly to HDDs in terms of sequential access. In this paper, we propose a new SSD-based storage system for interactive media servers. Based on the proposed method, it is possible to maximize the channel utilization of the SSD's multichannel architecture. Accordingly, we can improve the performance of SSD-based storage systems for interactive media operations.

  • Recently, as the demand for physical security technology to prevent leakage of technical and business information of companies and public institutions increases, the high tech companies are operating X-ray security checkpoints at building entrances to protect their intellectual property and technology. X-ray security checkpoints are operated to detect cameras and storage media that may store or leak important technologies in the bags of people entering and leaving the building. In this study, we propose an X-ray security checkpoint system that automatically detects a storage medium in an X-ray image using a deep learning based object detection method. The proposed system consists of an edge computing unit and a cloud-computing unit. We employ the RetinaNet for automatic storage media detection in the X-ray security checkpoint images. The proposed approach achieved mAP of 95.92% on private dataset.

  • As network resources have become faster and demands for multimedia service through network have increased, the demand for Media server system has increased. These kinds of media server solve their bottle neck problem of internal storage device by using parallel system which takes advantage of fast network resource. Many vendors have suggested each of their media server system to solve these problem radically, but most of them require major modification of infra component and additional drawback has added. For example, storage mechanism for specific media requires new file system which is totally different from traditional one, and algorithm for enhancing performance may not suit for traditional operating system environment. In this paper, we designed a parallel media server based on web interface of traditional system and implemented a program for media server. Implemented server system performs parallel processing through web interface without any modification of traditional system, and controls which is related to merging load by distributed data is charged only to client and control server and consequently load of storage server can be minimized. And also, data transfer protocol for streaming media includes Retransfer algorithm and client Admission control policy relevant to performance of whole system.

  • Developing efficient and reliable energy storage system is as important as exploring new energy resources. Energy storage system can balance the periodic and quantitative mismatch between energy supply and energy demand and increase the energy efficiency. Industrial waster heat and renewable energy such as solar energy can be stored by the thermal energy storage (TES) system at high and low temperatures. TES system using underground rock carven is considered as an attractive alternative for large-scale storage, because of low thermal conductivity and chemical safety of surrounding rock mass. In this report, the development of available thermal energy storage methods and the characteristics of storage media were introduced. Based on some successful applications of cavern storage and high-temperature storage reported in the literature, the applicabilities and practicabilities of storage media and technologies for large-scale cavern thermal energy storage (CTES) were reviewed.

  • In this paper we explain why future probe storage systems will use patterned media. As a model system, magnetic patterned media will be discussed, even though their data density is limited to about $7Tbit/in^2$. The first results on magnetic probe storage on patterned media are presented, and the problem of switching field distribution is discussed in detail. Finally we will present the first steps into two-dimensional coding for patterned media.

  • Holographic Data Storage System, one of the next generation data storage devices, is a 2-dimensional page oriented memory system using volume holograms in writing and retrieving process. Recently photopolymer with disc type substrate was selected as a media for the Holographic Data Storage System. The disc tilt occurs when the media rotates and the external disturbance applies. The disc tilt causes the change of the angle between the reference beam and the media, the data cannot be retrieved with the right angle or other data page is retrieved. The tilt is generated in a 2-axis direction (tangential, radial). The tangential tilt direction is the same with the multiplexing plane, while the radial tilt direction is a perpendicular to the multiplexing plane. In this research we propose 2-axis tilt angle servo system. The tilt errors are measured by using external photo detector and the additional red laser. Then the tangential direction tilt is compensated by using the galvano mirror. Also the radial direction tilt is compensated by the rotating prism between the relay lens in the reference field. Finally we confirm the compensation results through the Signal to Noise Ratio(SNR) and Bit Error Rate(BER).

  • The trend keywords in ICT sector will be Big Data, Internet of Things, and Cloud Computing. The rear end to support those techniques requires a large-capacity storage technology of low-cost. Therefore, we proposed the prototype of low-cost and mass distributed storage system based on PC using open-source Ceph FS for SMB.

  • Recently, media platforms such as YouTube and Twitch provide services that can generate personal revenue by utilizing media content produced by individuals. In this regard, interest in the copyright of media content is increasing. In particular, in the case of an audio source, competition for securing audio source copyright is fierce because it is an essential element for almost all media content production. In this paper, we propose a method to store the audio source and its signature using a blockchain and distributed storage system to verify the copyright of music content. To identify the possibility of extracting the audio signature of the audio source and to include it as blockchain transaction data, we implement the audio source and its signature file upload system based on the proposed scheme. In addition, we show the effectiveness of the proposed method through experiments on uploading and retrieving audio files and identify future improvements.

  • In this paper, the function design of smart media platform control with smart monitoring, and displaying modules which have the priorities of smart plug based smart outlet, is proposed for electrical suppliance of essential information appliance in emergency power consumption situation(blackout, peaktime etc). The effect of power management will be maximized by this smart gateway interlocking with ESS(energy storage system) which has bi-directional power transmission control modules, and smart outlet based on the priority control actions.
