  • The farming type in Korea is predominantly a small farm managed by family members. This study mainly examines the current usage of the website of family farms as a management tool for small farm business and discusses the strategies for effective utilization of the website. A county that currently employs governmental project of information system was purposely selected. Among all the websites operated by small farm businesses in that county, websites of which purpose is introduction of the business, advertisement, or e-business were included for analysis; it yielded total seven websites, The study was conducted with two phases; on-line website analysis and interview with business owners. The websites were analyzed based on four categories; content, interface, design, and site management. With regard to the content of the websites, the lack of connection between domain names and product names was found. Moreover, the problem relevant to site management was shown as low utilization of bulletin boards and delayed upload of new information. However, design and interface were comparatively well presented. Business owners reported that the motivation to initiate the websites was mostly supports from the governmental project for the agricultural information system. The barriers to effective management of websites were found i) business owner's misinterpretation of business website with e-business ii) very limited opportunity for website management education in small farm business, and iii) lack of regional infrastructure for information system. Based on the findings, this study suggests as followed; i) construction of infrastructure should be preceded to make effective management for websites; ii) education for website management should include small business management strategies as well as computer skills, iii) the education should be provided in diverse ways considering subject's characteristics iv) small farm business owners should be informed that their websites could play a role only to provide information about the products and hand over the practical load for e-business to retailing web sites such as portal shopping mall; and v) wives' participation should be encouraged.

  • Ornithine decarboxylase (ODC) is a rate-limiting enzyme in the biosynthesis of polyamines, which are essential for cell growth, differentiation, and proliferation. This report presents the characterization of an ODC-encoding cDNA (SlitODC) isolated from a moth species, the tobacco cutworm, Spodoptera litura (Lepidoptera); its expression in a polyamine-deficient strain of yeast, S. cerevisiae; and the recovery in polyamine levels and proliferation rate with the introduction of the insect enzyme. SlitODC encodes 448 amino acid residues, 4 amino acids longer than B. mori ODC that has 71% identity, and has a longer C-terminus, consistent with B. mori ODC, than the reported dipteran enzymes. The null mutant yeast strain in the ODC gene, SPE1, showed remarkably depleted polyamine levels; in putrescine, spermidine, and spermine, the levels were > 7, > 1, and > 4%, respectively, of the levels in the wild-type strain. This consequently caused a significant arrest in cell proliferation of > 4% of the wild-type strain in polyamine-free media. The transformed strain, with the substituted SlitODC for the deleted endogenous ODC, grew and proliferated rapidly at even a higher rate than the wild-type strain. Furthermore, its polyamine content was significantly higher than even that in the wild-type strain as well as the spe1-null mutant, particularly with a very continuously enhanced putrescine level, reflecting no inhibition mechanism operating in the putrescine synthesis step by any corresponding insect ODC antizymes to SlitODC in this yeast system.

  • In 21C, computer is having a powerful influence on every fields. As music field is no exception, the computer music is regarded as a next generation music. Especially the focus of 21st century's music is now moving from MIDI of 20th century to the Realtime interactive music in which computer is used as a practical instrument. Most european countries and America are doing a lot of research and performing these music. But in Korea, known as a fairly strong IT country, there is no enough perception of the importance of this new outcome of the new media era, and introduction of this music is slow as well. In this paper, we suggest the possibility of using the new way of composition by realtime interactive music in Korea. This can be a strong merit for Korean composers who want to use Korean instruments which were limited to be used as international instruments because of their restricted registers, techniques and so on.

This study consists in large of 5 chapters. The introduction parr describes background, purpose, method and scope of the study. The first chapter reviews the silver marketing theories. The second chapter classifies the silver marketing advertisement positioning of four style - upper classes style, effloresce progress style, self- sufficiency style, dependent style - and reviews the expression strategy of each positioning. The third chapter examines the domestic conditions of silver marketing advertisements for each positioning type classified. The fourth chapter designs the ′creative′of silver marketing advertisements and suggests the methods thereof. The analysis of ′creative′was tested in terms of graphic gestaltung, and how the sliver marketing advertisement positioning should be discerned depending on silver generation consumer′s characteristics was discussed. The fifth chapter puts forwards the suggestions for the ′creative′ strategies to enhance the effects of the silver marketing advertisements, based on the preceding discussions. In addition, the Perspective into the keyword of 21 st century or "silver design" is discussed, together with the limitations of this study. It is hoped that this stuffy will be conducive to our efforts to face the upcoming′age\ulcorner society′more effectively. To this end, this study discusses the "silver advertising design" in light of ′societal concepts′and ′customer-oriented value′, and thus, explores some creative presentation strategies whereby individual companies interests and social or public interests can be compromised through ′creative activities′ and ′equal-value consumerism′ for an ultimately effective management strategies for silver businesses and services.

  • In vitro plant regeneration of inbred breeding line of hot pepper (Capsicum annuum L.) was established using leaf and petiole segments as explants. About 28 days old plants were excised and cultured on MS medium supplemented with TDZ and NAA or in combination with Zeatin. In all of the media compositions tested, combination of TDZ 0.5 mg/L, Zeatin 0.5 mg/L, and NAA 0.1 mg/L was found to be the best medium for shoot bud initiation. Young petiole was the most appropriate explant type for the plant regeneration as well as genetic transformation in hot pepper. In this study, HpMADS1 gene isolated from hot pepper was introduced using Agrobacterium-mediated transformation system. Based on the analysis of Southern blot and RT-PCR, HpMADS1 gene was integrated in the hot pepper genome. It has been known that floral organ development is controlled by a group of regulatory factors containing the MADS domain. Morphological characteristics in these transgenic plants, especially flowering habit, however, were not significantly altered, indicating this MADS gene, HpMADS1 may be non-functional in this case.

  • Cable TV with largest subscription base in pay TV market has difficulty in managing the task of digital switch over. This study analyzed the factors in delay of cable TV switch over and examined the impact of pay TV market structure and competition. The delaying factors turned out to be the lack of incentives and resources of cable TV operators, insufficient policy measures and acceptance tolerance issues of subscribers. Since cable TV operators with monopolistic status in pay TV market had continuous profit from analog service, they were not responsive to digital switch over which requires additional investment. Policy measures including support for the low income household and mandatory cut-off point for stopping analog broadcasting. Subscriber's willingness to accept digital broadcasting in terms of price sensitivity and preference for convenient operation also played a role. Introduction of IPTV in pay TV market influenced the speed of digital switch over of cable TV operators. MSOs with economies of scale showed higher digital switch over rate than independent SO.

  • The identification of explosive residues on specimens obtained from an explosion event is a crucial factor for assessing the cause of the explosion. In order to detect the components of explosives, the explosive residues deposited on surfaces are commonly extracted using swabbing materials pre-wetted with an organic solvent. The residues are then analyzed with analytical instruments such as LC/MS and CE/MS. Most conventionally used swabbing media such as cotton swabs or cotton tip swabs seem unsuitable for extracting explosive residues from the surface of a large area of clothes because the swabbing materials tend to be damaged easily, and because only a relatively small amount of explosives is collected. To overcome these problems, we have introduced a novel wiper ($215{\times}210mm$, single layer, Yuhan-Kimberly, Republic of Korea) as a swabbing material to recover representative organic explosives, namely, TNT, RDX, tetryl, HMX, PETN, and NG, from a large area of clothes. Different sides of the wiper, which was folded in half five times, was used to swab the surface of a clothing. We compared this novel wiper with a cotton swab and a cotton tip swab in terms of the recovery efficiency for the aforementioned organic explosives by pre-wetting with methanol, acetone, and acetonitrile, respectively. We identified that this novel wiper collected a significantly higher amount of organic explosive residues than a cotton swab or a cotton tip swab when using methanol as an extracting solvent.
