  • Lysyl oxidase (LOX), extracellular matrix enzyme, is catalyzing lysine-derived crosslinks in collagen and elastin. Recently, several LOX-like proteins (LOXL, LOXL2, LOXL3 and LOXL4) have been identified in human but their specific functions are still largely unknown. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the function of the LOX family genes during odontoblastic differentiation of human dental pulp (HDP) cells induced with odontogenic supplement (OS). The messenger RNA (mRNA) expression of LOX family genes and differentiation markers was assessed by reverse transcriptase polymerase chain reaction analysis (RT-PCR). The formation of mineralization nodules was evaluated by alrizarin red S staining. Amine oxidase activity of HDP cells was measured by peroxidase-coupled fluormetric assay. The expressions of differentiation markers, such as alkaline phosphatase (ALP), osteopontin (OPN), osteocalcin (OCN), dentin matrix protein1 (DMP1), dentin sialophosphoprotein (DSPP) in HDP cells were increased after treatment with OS media. The LOX and LOXL mRNA expression were gradually increased in OS media, whereas LOX enzyme activities were markedly detected on day 7. The mRNA expression and LOX enzyme activity of collagen type I was very similar to the pattern of LOX gene. In this study, the expression of LOX and its isoforms, and activity of LOX were highly regulated during odontoblastic differentiation. Thus, these results suggest that LOX plays a key role in odontoblastic differentiation of HDP cells.

  • The purpose of this study is to explore problems within bibliotherapy research of the 15 thesis papers aimed at improving self esteem, and then to explore development plan. In the current study on bibliotherapy, the problems with bibliotherapy are presented in five aspects. First, there is a lack of professionalism and role of counselor who plays the most important role in bibliotherapy. Second, the situation of the internalizer as an internalizer of bibliotherapy was not reflected in the bibliotherapy program. Third, the lack of diversity in the bibliotherapy program does not keep the reader's interest in bibliotherapy. Fourth, bibliotherapy reading material is limited to text material, which lacks the use of various media. Fifth, there is insufficient validity for the test paper that measures the effectiveness of the reader's bibliotherapy in terms of research methods. Several development plan are proposed based on the factors that affect bibliotherapy. First, it is necessary to develop and train teaching materials to secure expertise of bibliotherapy counselors. Second, it is necessary to develop data on the various media on suitable for bibliotherapy material. Third, it is necessary to review the test paper that can accurately measure the effectiveness of bibliotherapy.

  • Total bacterial populations were cultured from the Hydroball cultivation media in the rhizospheres of 9 different plants including $Hedera$ $helix$ L. and $Dracaena$ $deremensis$ cv. Warneckii Compacta, etc. These cultured bacterial populations were studied to test if the bacterial populations in the plant growing pots may play a role on removal of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) such as benzene and toluene in the air. To meet this objective, first, we tested the possibility of removal of VOCs by the cultured total bacteria alone. The residual rates of benzene by the inoculation of total bacterial populations from the different plant growth media were significantly different, ranging from 0.741-1.000 of $Spathiphyllum$ $wallisii$ 'Regal', $Pachira$ $aquatica$, $Ficus$ $elastica$, $Dieffenbachia$ sp. 'Marrianne' Hort., $Chamaedorea$ $elegans$, compared to the control with residual rate of 0.596 (LSD, $P$=0.05). This trend was also similar with toluene, depending on different plants. Based on these results, we inoculated the bacterial population cultured from $P.$ $aquatica$ into the plant-growing pots of $P.$ $aquatica$, $F.$ $elastica$, and $S.$ $podophyllum$ inside the chamber followed by the VOCs injection. The inoculated bacteria had significant effect on the removal of benzene and toluene, compared to the removal efficacy by the plants without inoculation, indicating that microbes in the rhizosphere could play a significant role on the removal of VOCs along with plants.

  • The $G_{q/11}$ protein-coupled receptors, such as muscarinic (M1 & M3) receptors, have been shown to regulate the release of a soluble amyloid precursor protein (sAPP$\alpha$) produced from $\alpha$-secretase processing. However, there is no direct evidence for the precise characteristics of G proteins, and the signaling mechanism for the regulation of $G_{q/11}$ protein-coupled receptor mediated sAPP$\alpha$ release is not clearly understood. This study examined whether the muscarinic receptor-mediated release of sAPP$\alpha$ is directly regulated by $G\alpha_{q/11}$ proteins. The HEK293 cells were transiently cotransfected with muscarinic M3 receptors and a dominant-negative minigene construct of the G protein $\alpha$ subunit. The sAPP$\alpha$ release in the media was measured using an antibody specific for sAPP. The sAPP$\alpha$ release enhancement induced by muscarinic receptor stimulation was decreased by a $G_{q/11}$ minigene construct, whereas it was not blocked by a control minigene construct (the G$\alpha$ carboxy peptide in random order, G$\alpha_{q}$R) or $G\alpha_{j}$ constructs. This indicated a direct role of the $G\alpha_{q/11}$ protein in the regulation of muscarinic M3 receptor-mediated sAPP$\alpha$ release. We also investigated whether the transactivation of the epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) by a muscarinic agonist could regulate the sAPP$\alpha$ release in SH-SY5Y cells. Pretreatment of a specific EGFR kinase inhibitor, tyrophostin AG1478 (250 nM), blocked the EGF-stimulated sAPP$\alpha$ release, but did not block the oxoMstimulated sAPP$\alpha$ release. This demonstrated that the transactivation of the EGFR by muscarinic receptor activation was not involved in the muscarinic receptor-mediated sAPP$\alpha$ release.

  • Recent advances on wireless technology are enabling the design and deployment of real-time traffic in wireless LAN. Point Coordination Function (PCF) mode of Wireless LAN is defined to provide QoS of real time traffic, such as voice, video in wireless LANs. The service polling scheduling plays an important role in real-time traffic services of wireless LAN. This paper proposes a multicast polling scheme to increase the maximum number of conversations by reducing the amount of empty polls in IEEE 802.11 PCF mode. Our simulation studies show that our scheme may improve performance of the PCF in terms of the average transfer delay and packet discard ratio.

  • With the development of media and computer, Motion Capture system, recently used in the entertainment and computer graphics, is emerging as a new recording method. Motion Capture is a system that records time-varying position of sensors which are attached to a objects and translates it to 3-D coordinate on computer. The motion of object displays the time-varying positions of each sensors that are graphed, or the line connected man-shaped model's movements on the computer monitor. And by adding computer graphic character to it, the various angled images, which are difficult to be perceived on the stage, can be easily recorded. Recently in Japan, Motion Capture system is being actively studied in order to use it in recording and preserving the intangible cultural assets of dance and art. Especially, Warabiza in Tazawako art village at Akita plays the leading role in this area through the project to symbolize and establish the archive of cultural dance, further, Ritsumeikan Univ. is develops the system for coupling the motion capture system to Labanotation. This article introduces the motion capture and it's related studies in Japan, which are being actively studied as a new recording method of intangible cultural assets.

  • Objectives: Among adolescent development tasks, being independent of parents is an essential process for emotional and physical separation. There are many conflicts of separation and individuation between parents and adolescents; however, most clinicians explore the process of separation and individuation only from adolescents' perspective. Whether simultaneously or sequentially, separation-individuation occurs between adolescents and parents, respectively. The authors have already introduced the theory of synchronized individuation in a clinical case to explain the concept of this intersubjective phenomena. This study also attempts to prove the synchronized individuation theory through the interaction of characters in a movie and a fairy tale. Methods: The authors present the basis for the theory of synchronized individuation of adolescence through the growing process of Mason Junior, the main character of the movie "Boyhood," and from the process of the separation of a hen, Sprout, and an orphaned duckling in "The hen who dreamed she could fly." Results: Synchronized individuation was developed and observed from Mason, the son's perspective in "Boyhood," and Sprout, the mother's subjective perspective in the story of the hen. Conclusion: Increasing conflict and mutual impact in the relationship between adolescents and parents, ambivalent feelings for separation, selective identification of each other, mutual respect through mutual recognition, and role changes in relationship position were confirmed. Sons and mothers were individualized with synchronization.

  • Augmented reality (AR), which integrates virtual media into reality, is increasingly utilized across various industrial sectors, thanks to advancements in 3D graphics and mobile device technologies. The IT industry is thus carrying out active R&D activities about AR platforms. Google plays a significant role in the AR landscape, with a focus on ARCore services. An essential aspect of ARCore is the use of anchors, which serve as reference points that help maintain the position and orientation of virtual objects within the physical environment. However, if the accuracy of anchor positioning is suboptimal when running AR content, it can significantly diminish the user's immersive experience. We are to assess the performance of these anchors in this study. To conduct the performance evaluation, virtual 3D objects, matching the shape and size of real-world objects, we strategically positioned ourselves to overlap with their physical counterparts. Images of both real and virtual objects were captured from five distinct camera trajectories, and ARCore's performance was analyzed by examining the difference between these captured images.
