Since its discovery in 1991, the carbon nanotube has attracted much attention all over the world; and several method have been developed to synthesize carbon nanotubes. According to theoretical calculations, carbon nanotubes have many unique properties, such as high mechanical strength, capillary properties, and remarkable electronical conductivity, all of which suggest a wide range of potential applications in the future. Here we report the synthesis in the catalytic decomposition of acetylene at ~65 $0^{\circ}C$ over Ni deposited on SiO2, For the catalyst preparation, Ni was deposited to the thickness of 100-300A using effusion cell. Different approaches using porous materials and HF or NH3 treated samples have been tried for synthesis of carbon nanotubes. It is decisive step for synthesis of carbon nanotubes to form a round Ni particles. We show that the formation of round Ni particles by heat treatment without any pre-treatment such as chemical etching and observe the similar size of Ni particles and carbon nanotubes. Carbon nanotubes were synthesized by chemial vapour deposition ushin C2H2 gas for source material on Ni coated Si substrate. Ni film gaving 20~90nm thickness was changed into Ni particles with 30~90nm diameter. Heat treatment of Ni fim is a crucial role for the growth of carbon nanotube, High-resolution transmission electron microscopy images show that they are multi-walled nanotube. Raman spectrum shows its peak at 1349cm-1(D band) is much weaker than that at 1573cm-1(G band). We believe that carbon nanotubes contains much less defects. Long carbon nanotubes with length more than several $\mu$m and the carbon particles with round shape were obtained by CVD at ~$650^{\circ}C$ on the Ni droplets. SEM micrograph nanotubes was identified by SEM. Finally, we performed TEM anaylsis on the caron nanotubes to determine whether or not these film structures are truly caron nanotubes, as opposed to carbon fiber-like structures.

The biocompatibility of materials used for biomedical applications depends on chemical composition, mechanical stiffness, surface energy, and roughness. The plasma treatment and etching process is a very important technology in the biomedical fields due to possibility of controlling the surface chemistry and properties of materials. In this work, $N_2/H_2$ plasma were treated on single-walled carbon nanotubes (SWCNTs) paper and characterization of treated SWCNTs paper was carried out. Also we investigated neurite outgrowth from SH-SY5Y on treated SWCNTs paper. The results indicated that $N_2/H_2$ plasma-modified SWCNTs paper enhanced neuronal cell adhesion, viability, neurite outgrowth and branching in vitro and exerted a positive role on the health of neural cells.

Fine multi-hole sheet metal product(FMSMP) is a specific metal plate which is used in color TV and computer monitor. Processes of manufacturing FMSMP are generally composed of coating cleaning exposure and etching processes. After a thin metal plate is made by rolling photosensitive liquid is coated on the metal plate in coating process. Then the coated thin metal plate consecutively passes through exposure process in which upper and lower glasses are compressed by vacuuming the space between glasses and metal plate. In this lowered glasses are compressed by vacuuming the space between glasses and metal plate. In this lowered vacuum state certain part of metal plate is desirably exposed to light and will be etched into forming lots of well-arranged holes with a specific diameter, nowadays to manufacture FMSMP of 17 inch braun tube 80 second is required for complete vacuum but 35 second is applied to manufacture FMSMP in reality. In the present study vacuuming time is tried to reduce for improvement of productivity by analyzing vacuum system and proposing several solutions, for faster vacuuming speed degree of vacuum state between glasses and metal plate is improved by the proposed method and experiments using the proposed method are performed for verification. In addition microstructure of FMSMP is investigated to prevent stain phenomena and to improve quality of the product.
Activated carbon fibers (ACFs) are fibrous form of activated carbon (AC) with higher mechanical strength and flexibility, which make them suitable for building modules for applications including directional gas flow such as air and gas purification. Similarly, ACFs are anticipated to excel in the efficient capture of CO2. However, due to the difficulties in fabricating monofilament carbon fibers at a laboratory scale, most of the studies regarding ACFs for CO2 capture have relied on electrospun carbon fibers. In this study, we fabricated monofilament carbon fibers from PAN-based monofilament precursors by stabilization and carbonization. Then, ACFs were successfully prepared by chemical activation using KOH. Different weight ratios ranging from 1:1 to 1:4 were employed in the fabrication of ACFs, and the samples were designated as ACF-1 to ACF-4, respectively. As a function of KOH ratio, increase in surface area could be observed. However, the CO2 adsorption trend did not follow the surface area trend, and the ACF-3 with second largest surface area exhibited the highest CO2 adsorption capacity. To understand the phenomena, nitrogen content and ultramicropore distribution, which are important factors determining CO2 adsorption capacity, were considered. As a result, while nitrogen content could not explain the phenomena, ultramicropore distribution could provide a reasoning that the excessive etching led ACF-4 to develop micropore structure with a broader distribution, resulting in high surface area yet deteriorated CO2 adsorption.

The Miniaturized Fingerprint Imager (MFI) is a slim optical mouse that can be used as an input device for application to wireless portable personnel communication devices such as smartphones. In this study, we have fabricated key optical components of an MFI, including the illumination optical components and imaging lens. An LED beam-shaping lens consisting of an aspheric lens and a Fresnel facet was successfully machined using a diamond turning machine (DTM). A customized V-shaped groove for beam path banding was fabricated by the bulk micromachining of silicon that was coated with aluminum using the shadow effect in thermal evaporation. The imaging lens and arrayed multilevel Fresnel lenses were fabricated by electron beam lithography and FAB etching, respectively. The proposed optical components are extremely compact and have high optical efficiency; therefore, they are applicable to ultraslim optical systems.
Mechanical and chemical methods are the two ways to treat the implant surfaces. By using mechanical method, it is difficult to eliminate bacteria and by-products from the rough implant surface and it can also cause the structural change to the implant surface. Therefore, chemical method is widely used in order to preserve and detoxicate the implant surface more effectively. The purpose of this study is to evaluate the effect of tetracylcline- HCl on the change of implant surface microstructure according to application time. Implants with pure titanium machined surface, SLA surface and $TiO_2blasted$ surface were used in this study. Implant surface was rubbed with sponge soaked in 50mg/ml tetracycline - HCl solution for $\frac{1}{2}$ min., 1min., $1\frac{1}{2}$ min., 2 min., and $2\frac{1}{2}min.$ respectively in the test group and with no treatment in the control group. The sponge was soaked in every 30 seconds. Then, the specimens were processed for scanning electron microscopic observation. Based upon the analysis of photographs by three dentists who are not related with this study, the results were obtained as follows; 1. In the pure titanium machined surfaces, the control specimen showed a more or less rough machined surface composed of alternating positive and negative lines corresponding to grooves and ridges. After treatment, machining line was more pronounced for the control specimens. but in general, test specimens were similar to control. 2. In the SLA surfaces, the control specimen showed that the macro roughness was achieved by large-grit sandblasting. Subsequently, the acid-etching process created the micro roughness, which thus was superimposed on the macro roughness. Irrespective of the application time of 50mg/ml tetracycline - HCl solution, in general, test specimens were similar to control. 3. In the $TiO_2blasted$ surfaces, the control specimen showed the rough surface With small pits. The irregularity of the $TiO_2blasted$ surfaces with 50mg/ml tetracycline - HCl solution was lessened and the flattened areas got wider after 1 minute.
The purpose of this study is to evaluate the effect of tetracylcline-hydrochloride(TC-HCI) on the change of implant surface microstructure according to application time. Implants with pure titanium machined surface, SLA surface and porous surface were used in this study. Implant surface was rubbed with sponge soaked in 50mg/ml TC-HCI solution for $\frac{1}{2}$ min., 1 min., $1\frac{1}{2}$ min., 2 min., and $2\frac{1}{2}$ min. respectively in the test group and with no treatment in the control group. Then, specimens were processed for scanning electron microscopic observation. 1. Both test and control group showed a few shallow grooves and ridges in pure titanium machined surface implants. There were not significant differences between two groups. 2. In the SLA surfaces, the control specimen showed that the macro roughness was achieved by large-grit sandblasting. Subsequently, the acid-etching process created the micro roughness, which thus was superimposed on the macro roughness. Irrespective of the application time of 50mg/ml TC-HCI solution, in general, test specimens were similar to control. 3. In the porous surfaces, the control specimen showed spherical particles of titanium alloy and its surface have a few shallow ridges. The roughness of surfaces conditioned with tetracycline-HCI was lessened and seen crater-like irregular surfaces relative to the application time. In conclusion, pure titanium machined surfaces and SLA surfaces weren't changed irrespective of the application time of tetracycline-HCI solution. But the porous surfaces conditioned with tetracycline-HCI solution began to be slightly changed from 2 min. This results are expected to be applied to the regenerative procedures for peri-implantitis treatment.

The PC/ABS blends were manufactured with high shear rate processing. Changes of the blend morphology were analyzed according to the screw speed and processing time. To find optimal conditions of the high shear rate processing of the PC/ABS blend, blend morphology and size of the dispersed phase, ABS, were observed with a SEM. Also, tensile properties of the PC/ABS blends were measured to investigate the effect of the high shear rate process with the screw speed of 500 rpm to 3000 rpm for processing times of 10s to 40s. Especially, to observe the dispersed phase of the PC/ABS blend clearly, fracture surfaces of the PC/ABS blend were etched with chromic acid solution. As screw speed and processing time increase, dispersed phase size of the PC/ABS blend decreases and mechanical properties of the blend decrease as well. Especially, at screw speed over than 1000 rpm of high shear rate processing, mechanical properties of the PC/ABS blends decrease drastically due to the degradation of the blend during the high shear rate processing. Consequently, the optimal condition of screw speed of the high shear processing of the PC/ABS blend is set at 1000rpm, in this study. Under optimal condition, the PC/ABS blend has relatively high mechanical properties with the relatively stable micro-structure having nanometer scale dispersed phase.
Purpose: The objective of this study was to evaluate the effect of microthreads on removal torque and bone-to-implant contact (BIC). Methods: Twelve miniature pigs for each experiment, a total of 24 animals, were used. In the removal torque analysis, each animal received 2 types of implants in each tibia, which were treated with sandblasting and acid etching but with or without microthreads at the marginal portion. The animals were sacrificed after 4, 8, or 12 weeks of healing. Each subgroup consisted of 4 animals, and the tibias were extracted and removal torque was measured. In the BIC analysis, each animal received 3 types of implants. Two types of implants were used for the removal torque test and another type of implant served as the control. The BIC experiment was conducted in the mandible of the animals. The $P_1-M_1$ teeth were extracted, and after a 4-month healing period, 3 each of the 2 types of implants were placed, with one type on each side of the mandible, for a total of 6 implants per animal. The animals were sacrificed after a 2-, 4-, or 8-week healing period. Each subgroup consisted of 4 animals. The mandibles were extracted, specimens were processed, and BIC was analyzed. Results: No significant difference in removal torque value or BIC was found between implants with and without microthreads. The removal torque value increased between 4 and 8 weeks of healing for both types of implants, but there was no significant difference between 8 and 12 weeks. The percentage of BIC increased between 2 and 4 weeks for all types of implants, but there was no significant difference between 4 and 8 weeks. Conclusions: The existence of microthreads was not a significant factor in mechanical and histological stability.

We developed a novel micro-electro mechanical systems (MEMS) test socket using silicon on insulator (SOI) substrate with the cantilever array structure. We designed the round shaped cantilevers with the maximum length of $350{\mu}m$, the maximum width of $200{\mu}m$ and the thickness of $10{\mu}m$ for $650{\mu}m$ pitch for 8 mm x 8 mm area and 121 balls square ball grid array (BGA) packages. The MEMS test socket was fabricated by MEMS technology using metal lift off process and deep reactive ion etching (DRIE) silicon etcher and so on. The MEMS test socket has a simple structure, low production cost, fine pitch, high pin count and rapid prototyping. We verified the performances of the MEMS test sockets such as deflection as a function of the applied force, path resistance between the cantilever and the metal pad and the contact resistance. Fabricated cantilever has 1.3 gf (gram force) at $90{\mu}m$ deflection. Total path resistance was less than $17{\Omega}$. The contact resistance was approximately from 0.7 to $0.75{\Omega}$ for all cantilevers. Therefore the test socket is suitable for BGA integrated circuit (IC) packages tests.
