Image Completion using Belief Propagation Based on Planar Priorities

  • Automatic image completion techniques have difficulty processing images in which the target region has multiple planes or is non-facade. Here, we propose a new image completion method that uses belief propagation based on planar priorities. We first calculate planar information, which includes planar projection parameters, plane segments, and repetitive regularity extractions within the plane. Next, we convert this planar information into planar guide knowledge using the prior probabilities of patch transforms and offsets. Using the energy of the discrete Markov Random Field (MRF), we then define an objective function for image completion that uses the planar guide knowledge. Finally, in order to effectively optimize the MRF, we propose a new optimization scheme, termed Planar Priority-belief propagation that includes message-scheduling-based planar priority and dynamic label cropping. The results of experiment show that our approach exhibits advanced performance compared with existing approaches.

Thermal Fatigue Test of an Annular Structure

  • A half-scaled large test model for the main components of the real annular structure was built and the thermal behaviors were experimented and obtained by thermal cyclic loads. The model design and the test conditions for the thermal loads were determined to take into consideration the thermal and mechanical loads acting on the real annular structure by finite element analyses. Temperature profiles and strains of the main components of the model were measured at an early stage of the test and periodically throughout the test in the given test conditions. After completion of the thermal cyclic tests, no evidence of crack initiation and propagation were identified by a dye penetration test. The measured strains at the critical parts were slightly increased proportionally with the increase in the number of the thermal cycles.

  • The objective of this study is to develop novel method named mechanical and chemical machining technique, which is capable of producing three dimensional patterns of few micrometers in dimension on a silicon wafer without the use of a mask. The strategy is to impart mechanical energy along the path of the pattern to be fabricated on a single crystal silicon by way on introdusing frictional interaction under controlled conditions. Then, the surface is preferentially etched to reveal the areas that have been mechanically energized. Upon completion of the etching process, the three dimensional pattern is produced on the silicon surface. Experiments have been conducted to identify the optimal tool material, geometery, as well as fabrication condition. The new technique introduced in this paper is significantly simpler than the conventional method which require sophisticated equipment and much time.

  • 본 논문은 공학인증 프로그램의 필수 과목인 창의공학설계 교과목 수업을 통해 학생들의 창의력을 향상시킬 수 있는 설계 수업 방안을 연구 하였다. 공과대학 학생들로 하여금 설계과제의 선호도와 문제점을 조사 하였고 이를 활용 하여 설계 과제 수업에서 구조물의 완성을 통한 창의력 증진 수업에 주력을 하였던 것을, 다학제간 융합에서 기계적 메커니즘의 결정체인 루브 골드버그(Rube-Goldberg) 창치를 활용한 '가장 간단한 작동을 가장 복잡한 기계 장치로 작동' 시키는 구조물의 완성을 통하여 기존의 설계과제를 복합적으로 활용하는 새로운 설계 과정 교육 개발안을 제언하였다.

Friction Coefficient, Torque Estimation, Smooth Shift Control Law for an Automatic Power Transmission

  • For shift quality improvement, torque sensors are currently too expensive to be used on production vehicles. To achieve smooth acceleration shift, the reference trajectory of the clutch slip speed for accomplishing the shift process within a designated shift completion time and its relationship with the clutch actuating torque were suggested by Jeong and Lee (1999). In order to facilitate the proposed algorithm, nonlinear estimators for necessary information such as the axle shaft torque, clutch friction and turbine torque were designed using only speed sensors. Accounting for the modeling error, a control law for this indirect smooth shift was proposed based on the above mentioned suggestions. Simulation results of the proposed estimators and shift controller were presented and further considerations for practical applications are discussed.

From this paper, most mechanical flaws are from design mistake, materials flaw, other engineering construction's negligence of construction execution and careless system operation management. Through this study, the author suggested the way to reduce mechanical flaw, during construction process from drawing survey before execution start to completion of construction.

  • This paper introduces a new concept - on-line FE model, as applied to metal rolling. The new technology allows for completion of process simulation within a tiny fraction of a second without loss of high-level prediction accuracy inherent to FEM. The three steps of an on-line FE model design namely, process metamorphosis, mesh design, and process variable design, are described in detail. The procedure is demonstrated step by step through designing actual on-line models for the prediction of the dog-bone profile in edge rolling. The validity and prediction accuracy of the on-line FE models are analyzed and discussed.

  • In this paper, we examine the application of a new concept - on-line FE model in various metal rolling processes. This technology allows for completion of process simulation within a tiny fraction of a second without losing the high level of prediction accuracy inherent to FEM. The procedure is systematically demonstrated through the design of actual on-line models for the prediction of the width spread in horizontal rolling of the slab using a dog bone profile and horizontal rolling of the strip with a strip profile. The validity and the prediction accuracy of the on-line FE models were analyzed and discussed.

  • 국내외 기계공학분야 교육과정과 이수체계에 대한 고찰을 통하여 교육과정 및 이수체계 현황을 파악하고, 공학교육 내용과 지식의 논리적 구조에 근거한 합리적 이수체계 모델을 제시하여, 기계공학 프로그램의 운영 방향을 제시하고자 한다. 국내외 우수대학 기계공학 분야의 설계교육을 포함한 교육과정, 학문, 산업발전 동향을 고려하여 합리적 이수체계를 연구하였다. 특히 전면적인 선.후수 이수체계도입을 위한 방법을 연구하여, 교과 이수체계를 준수할 수 있는 제도적 방안을 제시함으로써 학생들이 공학지식의 논리적 구조에 따라 공학 관련 지식을 체계적으로 습득할 수 있도록 하고자 한다.
