  • Although pipe performs various functions in industrial sites and residential spaces, if it is damaged due to corrosion caused by the external environment, it may cause equipment failure or a major accident. For this reason, various studies for safety management are being conducted, but studies on detecting corrosion or cracks on the pipe surface using a laser displacement sensor have hardly been conducted. Therefore, in this study, the corrosion degree of the pipe surface was compared and classified into 4 corrosion conditions, and inspection equipment using a laser scanner was manufactured. The corrosion height was calculated from the four surface data obtained from the measuring equipment and applied to various CNN algorithms, and 91% accuracy was obtained during training using the Modified VGGNet16 code with reduced number of parameters.

  • In many literatures the researchers pointed out that the using metal foam will significantly enhance the performance of heat exchanger. This paper focuses on theory study of metal foam, including calculation method of properties of foam (permeability K, inertial coefficient f, fiber diameter $d_f$, and effective conductivity $k_e$), model of pressure drop and model of heat transfer. Theory analysis on the performance of heat exchanger will be presented here. Finally the optimal material will be obtained from theory calculation.

  • Because all areas of mechanical engineering involves the use of mathematics, mechanical engineers need mathematical understanding and skill enhancement. To achieve the effective mathematics education for mechanical undergraduate students, it should reorganize the important subtopics of mathematics. In this paper, we explore the direction of the development of mathematics education for mechanical engineers by analyzing the teaching hours of each topics in the mathematics and by comparing the results with significance analysis of expert survey. To do so, syllabuses of mathematics courses of the selected mechanical engineering departments were analyzed and the survey responses of professionals in the Korean Society of Mechanical Engineers were also investigated. Finally, the revision of mathematics curriculum in the mechanical engineering was proposed.
