  • The steganography is one of methods that users can hide data. Some steganography softwares use audio data among multimedia data. However, these commercialized audio steganography softwares have disadvantages that the existence of hidden messages can or easily recognized visually and only certain-sized data can be hidden. To solve these problems, this study suggested, designed and implemented Dynamic Message Embedding (DME) algorithm. Also, to improve the security level of the secret message, the file encryption algorithm has been applied. Through these, StegoWaveK system that performs audio steganography was designed and implemented. Then, the suggested system and the commercialized audio steganography system were compared and analyzed on criteria of the Human Visilable System (HVS), Human Auditory System (HAS), Statistical Analysis (SA), and Audio Measurement (AM).

  • Rock fracture mechanics has been widely applied to blasting, hydraulic fracturing, rock slope and many other practical problems in rock engineering. But a measuring method for the fracture toughness of rock, one of the mort important parameters in fracture mechanics as an intrinsic property of rock, has not been yet well established. To obtain mode I rock fracture toughness, the more favorable disc-typed specimens such as CCNBD, SCB, chevron-notched SCB and BDT were used in this study. Rock fracture toughness under mixed-mode and mode II conditions was measured by using the STCA applied to the CCNBD specimen. Size effects such as specimen thickness, diameter and notch length on fracture toughness were investigated. From the mixed-mode results, fracture envelops were obtained by applying various regression curves. The mixed-mode results were also compared with three mixed-mode failure criteria. In each fracture toughness test, acoustic emission was measured to get the data for determining the load levels of different crack propagation patterns.

  • PURPOSES : The new waste management policy of South Korea encourages the recycling of waste materials. One material being recycled currently is tire-derived fuel (TDF) ash. TDF is composed of shredded scrap tires and is used as fuel in power plants and industrials plants, resulting in TDF ash, which has a chemical composition similar to that of the fly ash produced from coal. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the properties of an asphalt concrete mix that used TDF ash as the mineral filler. METHODS : The properties of the asphalt concrete were evaluated for different mineral filler types and contents using various measurement techniques. The fundamental physical properties of the asphalt concrete specimens such as their gradation and antistripping characteristics were measured in accordance with the KS F 3501 standard. The Marshall stability test was performed to measure the maximum load that could be supported by the specimens. The wheel tracking test was used to evaluate the rutting resistance. To investigate the moisture susceptibility of the specimens, dynamic immersion and tensile strength ratio (TSR) measurements were performed. RESULTS : The test results showed that the asphalt concrete containing TDF ash satisfied all the criteria listed in the Guide for Production and Construction of Asphalt Mixtures (Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, South Korea). In addition, TDF ash exhibited better performance than that of portland cement. The Marshall stability of the asphalt concrete with TDF ash was higher than 7500 N. Further, its dynamic stability was also higher than that listed in the guide. The results of the dynamic water immersion and the TSR showed that TDF ash shows better moisture resistance than does portland cement. CONCLUSIONS : TDF ash can be effectively recycled by being used as a mineral filler in asphalt, as it exhibits desirable physical properties. The optimal TDF ash content in asphalt concrete based on this study was determined to be 5%. In future works, the research team will compare the characteristics of asphalt concrete as function of the mineral filler types.

  • In the present study, we made measurements of PM-bound metal concentrations from seven different urbanized locations in Seoul for the period covering March 2001 through May 2002. The measurement data were analyzed to explore the possible influences of spatial factors on metal distribution characteristics. To check for the importance of such aspects on metal distribution characteristics, the measured data were compared between different metals and between different sites by several criteria including (1) coefficient of variation (CV) values; (2) temporal variability; and (3) the abundance of strongly correlated pairs. The overall results of our study indicate strong diversity in the distribution characteristics of different metals. It is found that some metals (like Fe, Mn, and Pb) tend to exhibit strong compatibility among different study sites. However, no such compatibility appears to exist for certain metals like Cu. To account for the importance of spatial factors, complex relationships between source/sink processes and geochemical characteristics of a given metallic component may have to be examined in a systematic manner.

  • Although many studies have analyzed the relationship between electrodermal activity (EDA) and sleep stages, a practical method for detecting sleep stage using EDA has not been suggested. The aim of this study was to develop an algorithm for real-time automatic detection of deep sleep using the EDA signal. Simultaneously with overnight polysomnography (PSG), continuous measurement of skin conductance on the fingers was performed for ten subjects. The morphometric characteristics in the fluctuations of EDA signal were employed to establish the quantitative criteria for determining deep sleep. The 30-sec epoch-by-epoch comparison between the deep sleep detected by our method and that reported from PSG exhibited an average sensitivity of 74.6%, an average specificity of 98.0%, and an average accuracy of 96.1%. This study may address the growing need for a reliable and simple measure for identifying sleep stage without a PSG.

  • Background: There are limited data evaluating the cost-effectiveness of gastric cancer screening using endoscopy or upper gastrointestinal x-ray in the general population. Objective: To evaluate the cost-effectiveness of population-based screening for gastric cancer in South Korea by decision analysis. Methods: A time-dependent Markov model for gastric cancer was constructed for healthy adults 30 years of age and older, and a deterministic sensitivity analysis was performed. Cost-utility analysis with multiple strategies was conducted to compare the costs and effects of 13 different screening alternatives with respect to the following eligibility criteria: age at the beginning of screening, screening interval, and screening method. The main outcome measurement was the incremental cost-effectiveness ratio. Results: The results revealed that annual endoscopic screening from ages 50-80 was the most cost-effective for the male population. In the females, biennial endoscopy screening from ages 50-80 was calculated as the most cost-effective strategy among the 12 screening alternatives. The most cost-effective screening strategy may be adjustable according to the screening costs and the distribution of cancer stage at screening. The limitation was that effectiveness data were obtained from published sources. Conclusions: Using the threshold of $19,162 per quality-adjusted life year on the basis of the Korean gross domestic product (2008), as suggested by the World Health Organization, endoscopic gastric cancer screening starting at the age of 50 years was highly cost-effective in the Korean population. The national recommendation for gastric cancer screening should consider the starting age of screening, the screening interval, and the screening modality.

  • The measurement of radiation response using simple and informative techniques would be of great value in studying the genetic risk following occupational, therapeutic, or accidental exposure to radiation. When patients receive radiation therapy, many suffer from side effects. Since each patient receives a different dose due to different physical conditions, it is important to measure the exact dose of radiation received by each patient to lessen the side effects. Even though several biological dosimetric systems have already been developed, there is no ideal system that can satisfy all the criteria for an idean dosimetric system, especially for low-dose radiation as used in radiation therapy. In this study, an SOS Chromotest of E. coli PQ37 was evaluated as a novel dosimeter for low-dose gamma-rays. E. coli PQ37 was originally developed to screen chemical mutagens using the SOS Chromotest-a colorimtric assay, based on the induction of ${\beta}$-galactosidase ue to DNA damage. The survival fraction of E. coli PQ37 decreased dose-dependently with an increasing dose of cobalt-60 gamma-rays. Also, a good linear correlation was found between the biological damage revealed by the ${\beta}$-galactosidase expression and the doses of gamma-rays. The expression of ${\beta}$-galactosidase activity that responded to low-dose radiation under 1 Gy was $Y=0.404+(0.089{\pm}0.3)D+(-0.018{\pm}0.16)D^2$ (Y, absorbance at 420 nm; D, Dose of irradiation) as calculated using Graph Pad In Plot and Excel. When a rabbit was fed with capsules containing an agar block embdded with E. coli PQ37 showed a linear response to the radiation doses. Accordingly, the results confirm that E. coli PQ37 can be used as a sensitive biological dosimeter fro cobalt-60 gamma-rays. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first time that a bacterium has been used as a biological dosimeter, especially for low-dose radiation.

  • Utilization of the former OSS was mainly focused on the usage of system applications such as operating system and DBMS. However, nowadays many companies are trying to make use of OSS based on the application rather than the system software. However, selection of base OSS is the most important to develop of application for utilizing OSS. The scope of existing OSS evaluation studies is covered the entire OSS quality. Thus existing studies of evaluation of OSS selection is insufficient. Also, the result of assessment is based on qualitative measurement rather than quantitative ones. In this paper, we derives only the indicators for selection among the existing OSS assessment indicators and suggests the assessment indicator that is capable of quantitative assessment in accordance with the characteristics of the project. The proposed assessment indicator is divided into an initial assessment indicator that can be assessed with only the information within the OSS community, and the detailed assessment indicator through metrics to make quantitative measurements possible. In this way, an objective basis can be provided through quantitative scores & indicators when selecting OSS.

  • We report mass concentration and size fraction of TPM, $PM_{10}$ and $PM_{2.5}$ according to Korea standard test method (ES 01301.1 and ES 01317.1) and ISO 23210 methods. Particulate matters were sampled in large stationary emission sources such as a coal power plant and B-C oil refinery. The Korea standard test method PM mass concentrations showed 3~3.5 times larger than the cascade impactor method. On the other hand, the size fraction results showed less than 5% difference (i.e. $PM_{2.5}/PM_{10}$) between two methods. Moreover, the correlation coefficient ($r^2$) is 0.84 between TPM results of the Korea standard test method and CleanSYS. These results suggested not only improvement of current test criteria in terms of technical and theoretical aspects. Further, additional measurements are required in various large stationary sources to compare current field data.
