  • A method for two-dimensional position measurement using an enclosing field has been studied and reported. The feature of this mehtod is zooming functional measurement by operating both the initial phase shift and the brightness ratio of the lighting function. An experimental system was developed and the experimental results on zooming effects are shown in this paper. This system is also an example of a "progressive learning measurement system".tem".uot;.

  • This paper describes the design of a force measurement and communication system for the force measuring system in industrial robots. The force measurement and communication system is composed of a multi-axis force sensor and a controller for measuring the forces (x-direction force, y-direction force and z-direction force) and sending the measured forces to the robot's controller (PLC: Programmable Logic Controller). In this paper, the force measurement and communication system was designed and fabricated by using a DSP (Digital Signal Processor). An environment test and a grinding and deburring test using an industrial robot with the force measurement and communication system with three-axis force sensor were carried out to characterize the system. The tests showed that the system could safely measure the forces from the three-axis force sensor and send the measured forces to the industrial robot's controller while the grinding and deburring test was performed. Thus, it is thought that the fabricated force measurement and communication system could be used for controlling the force for an industrial robot's grinding and deburring.

  • In this paper, we assume that an output sensor of a ball and beam system is coupled with AC measurement noise. We propose an output feedback controller for a ball and beam system under measurement noise of feedback sensor. Measurement noise makes feedback signals distorted, and results in performance degradation or even system failure. Therefore, we need to design a robust controller to accommodate the possible measurement noise in the feedback information. Our controller is equipped with a gain-scaling factor to minimize the effect of measurement noise in output feedback information. We give an analysis of the controlled system and illustrate the improved control performance via simulation and experiment for a ball and beam system.

  • For statistical process control, the process data are collected by the measurement system. But, the measurement system may have instrument error or/and operator error. In the measured values of products, the total observed variance consists of process variance and variance due to error of measurement system. In this paper, we design more practical T-s control chart considering estimated measurement error The effects of measurement error on the expected total cost and design parameters are investigated.

  • In this study, a biological reaction and measurement control system was developed to rapidly measure the insecticide imidacloprid residues in agricultural products. The biological reaction part of the system was designed to include micro-pumps and valves for fluid transport, and a polystyrene covet as a reaction chamber. The measurement control part of the system consisted of a photodiode with a light-emitting diode for optical density measurement, and a control microcomputer to implement assay. Signal output was read as the rate of change in optical density at 645 nm. The sensitivity of the system was 2.2 ng/mL ($IC_50$). The system could execute a measurement cycle in about 19 minutes. Research will be continued to develop an automatic sampler fur imidacloprid residues from agricultural products.

  • In this paper, we propose a distance measurement system for automatic berthing control using a stereo camera mounted on a rotation control device, and a radial pattern target. Automatically controlling the position and attitude of a ship aims to prevent maritime accidents due to human error. Our goal is to measure the relative distance between a ship and an onshore or offshore target for berthing. Therefore, the distance should be continuously measured while tracking a fixed point on a target. To this end, we developed a stereo camerabased distance measurement system that satisfied these requirements. This paper describes the structure and principle of the measurement system. We validate the distance error for target incline due to the relative position and attitude between a camera and a target in miniature scale. In addition, the findings of an experiment in an outdoor environment demonstrate that the proposed measurement system has accuracy within 1 m at a range of 20-100 m which is the acceptable accuracy for automatic berthing.

  • In this paper, we propose a fault-tolerant controller for compensating measurement noise of feedback sensor. Because control systems operate via feedback sensor's signal, the measurement noise in sensor's signal results in performance degradation or even system failure. Therefore, control systems often demand on compensating measurement noise. Our controller is equipped with a compensator in order to reject or reduce the effect of measurement noise in feedback information. Our proposed method is verified via simulation and experiment for a Ball and Beam system.

A Study on Weld Bead Profile Measurement System for Use in Automatic Weld Bead Removal System

  • Automatic weld bead removal system is consisted of bead removal tool, bead profile measurement system and tool motion control system. In this paper, design of weld bead profile measurement system which is used for automatic weld bead removal system is described. The system measures the weld bead position, normal vector of the auto-body and weld bead profile. The optical sensor with structured laser beam is used as a sensor and comparison of the sensor that can be used for this purpose is discussed in detail. The measurement process and the related software developed for this purpose are also described. A median filter, average filter and long line filters are used and their effects in bead profile measurement are discussed. The measurement system is integrated into automatic bead removal system and is used to remove weld bead in rear pillar of automotive body. The whole system operates well in automotive body assembly line and thus the system is proved to be good for this purpose.

  • The objective of this study was to develop a computer measurement and control system which enable it possible to manage the natural air rough rice drying and storage properly and safely. The following contents of work were taken in this study in order to fulfill the above goal: 1) Design and construction of measurement system which can measure the rough rice drying conditions automatically and transfer them to computer system for data processing. 2) Development of a management software which can determine the need of fan operation by the analysis of drying and/or storage conditions. 3) Design and construction of a control system which deliver the computer decision of fan operation and make it on and off. 4) Technical and economical analysis of the computer measurement and control system development by the comparison experiments of the computer management and of the manual.

  • This paper developed a 3D inspection system. The system consists of two parts : one includes hardwares such as actuators, linear scales and a probe, etc. the other involves softwares for management and control of the system. Compared with existing 3D measurement systems, this system achieved automatically the inspection. This automatic inspection makes the system have some advantages to reduce a measurement time and to be easily used by operators.
