The thermoluminescent phosphors of LiYSi$O_4$ containing rare earth metal(La) dopants of 1 wt.%5 wt.% were prepared, and their TL characteristics have been investigated as a function of parameters such as the doping level and the heating rate. The grain size and cooling temperature of the highly sensitive LiYSi$O_4$: La phosphors have been investigated. The glow curve of LiYSi$O_4$: La has two peaks ($P_1,\;P_2$), and the peak height ratio of the two peaks is called $P_2/P_1$; here, the main peak is $P_2$. Experimental results indicate that the peak height ratios of the glow curve for LiYSi$O_4$: La are clearly correlated with the grain size and cooling temperature. The maximum $P_2/P_1$ ratio 3.25, the maximum sensitivity was observed for a grain size between 100-150 ${\mu}m$. The intensity of the TL peak of the phosphors was linearly proportion to the dose of X-rays.
The purpose of this study were to analyze the characteristic of the glow curves in order to the glow temperature of the thermoluminescent dosimeters (TLDs) for the absorbed dose measurement of the radiation therapy. In this study, we was used the TLDs of the LiF:Mg${\cdot}$Ti, LiF:Mg${\cdot}$Cu${\cdot}$P, $CaF_2$:Dy, $CaF_2$:Mn (Thermo Fisher Scientific Inc., USA). The source-to-solid dry phantom (RW3 slab, IBA Dosmetry, Germany) surface distance was set at 100 cm, and the exposure dose of 100 MU (monitor unit) was used 6- and 15-MV X-rays, and 6- and 12-MeV electron beams in the reference depth, respectively. After the radiations exposure, we were to analyze the glow curves by using the TL reader (Hashaw 3500, Thermo Fisher Scientific Inc., USA) at the fixed heating rate of $15^{\circ}C/sec$ from $50^{\circ}C$ to $260^{\circ}C$. The glow peaks, the trapping level in the captured electrons and holes combined with the emitted light, were discovered the two or three peak. When the definite increasing the temperature of the TLDs, the maximum glow peak representing the glow temperature was follow as; $LiF:Mg{\cdot}Ti$: $185.5{\pm}1.3^{\circ}C$, $LiF:Mg{\cdot}Ti$: $135.0{\pm}5.1^{\circ}C$, $CaF_2$:Dy: $144.0{\pm}1.6^{\circ}C$, $CaF_2$:Mn: $294.3{\pm}3.8^{\circ}C$, respectively. Because the glow emission probability of the captured electrons depend on the heating temperature after the exposure radiation, TLDs by applying the fixed heating rate, the accuracy of measurement will be able to improve within the absorbed dose measurement of the radiation therapy.
Gamma-irradiation (0-7 kGy) of ginseng is permitted in Korea for the purpose of microbial decontamination; with strict labeling, traceability and monitoring requirements. An identification study was conducted to determine the photostimulated-luminescence (PSL) and thermoluminescence (TL) properties of gamma-irradiated fresh and white ginsengs cultivated in different areas. Dose- dependent PSL-based screening was possible for white ginseng samples; however, inappropriate results from non-irradiated fresh ginseng samples were obtained, showing intermediate (700 to 5,000) or positive ($T_2$ >5,000, irradiated) PSL counts due to the abundance of minerals on the surfaces of the samples. TL analysis of separated minerals from all non-irradiated samples gave TL glow curves of low intensity with a maximum peak after $300^{\circ}C$. However, well-defined irradiation-specific (high intensity with a maximum peak at about $200^{\circ}C$) glow curves were observed for all the irradiated samples, regardless of their type and origins. TL ratios (first glow curve /second glow curve) were also determined to confirm the irradiated (>0.1) and non-irradiated (<0.1) results. SEM-EDX (scanning electron microscope-energy dispersive X-ray) and XRD (X-ray diffraction) spectroscopic analyses showed that feldspar and quartz minerals were the main source for the typical radiation-specific luminescence properties.

Bulgogi sauces containing electron beam-irradiated garlic powder (1%, 3%, and 5%) were used to compare their irradiation status before and after pasteurization ($85^{\circ}C$, 30 min), using a thermoluminescence (TL) analysis by two different laboratories. The sauces with non-irradiated ingredient only provided a background TL glow curve with a maximum peak after $300^{\circ}C$. However, the presence of irradiated ingredient (1 and 10 kGy) was evident through the typical TL glow curves in a temperature range of 150 to $250^{\circ}C$. The concentration of irradiated ingredients showed a greater impact on identification characteristics than their radiation doses. TL ratios ($TL_1/TL_2$) were not able to confirm the results showing evidence of irradiation through the TL glow curve shapes. Pasteurization showed a negligible effect on the key identification parameters and did not change the shape or temperature range of radiation-specific TL glow peak, but reduced TL glow curve intensity. TL glow curve shape with the maximum peak in a temperature range of $150{\sim}250^{\circ}C$ was the most useful characteristic providing information required for confirming the irradiation status.
[ $CaSO_4$ ] thermoluminescent phosphors was made by sintring the $CaSO_4$ after doping the transition elements Tm, Pd, Dy, V, Mo, Zr. The maximum Peaks are found in the measured $CaSO_4$(Tm, Pd, Dy, V, Mo, Zr) TL glow curve at $130^{\circ}C,\;110^{\circ}C,\;140^{\circ}C,\;100^{\circ}C$, and $120^{\circ}C$ when the heating rate is $5^{\circ}C/sec$. The activation energy of the main peak has been estimated by the peak shape method. The estimated activation energies are 1.02eV, 1.32eV, 1.12eV, 0.80eV, and 1.17eV, respectively. The thermoluminescence process in $CaSO_4$(Tm, Pd, Dy, V, Mo, Zr)are found to the 2nd order when the main peak of the glow curve is analyzed by peak shape method. The dose responses of $CaSO_4$(Tm, Pd, Dy, V, Mo, Zr) phosphors are linear within $4{\times}10^{-4}{\sim}1Gy$ of X-rays.

Photostimulated luminescence (PSL) and thermoluminescence (TL) analyses were conducted for the detection of different gamma-irradiated dried fishes (mussel, squid, beka squid, mitra squid, plaice, and saury) at 0, 1, 5 and 10 kGy. For TL analysis, the contaminating silicate minerals were obtained by density separation or acid hydrolysis treatment. PSL determinations indicated that all the non-irradiated samples showed PSL photon counts/60 s (PCs) lower than 700 PCs (negative), but the irradiated mussel sample at 5 and 10 kGy were only possibility identified showing higher than 5000 PCs (positive). Irrespective of sample kinds and methods of mineral separation, all the non-irradiated samples showed TL glow curves in low-intensity with a maximum peak only after $250^{\circ}C$. However, all the irradiated samples produced TL glow curves in high intensity with a maximum peak particularly in the temperature range of 1$150{\sim}250^{\circ}C$. In conclusion, more distinguishable TL results [glow curve, TL ratio ($TL_1/TL_2$)] were obtained from the marker minerals separated by acid hydrolysis rather than density method.

Photostimulated luminescence (PSL) and thermoluminescence (TL) analyses were conducted for the detection of different irradiated dried fishes. All the non-irradiated samples provided PSL counts of lower than 700 (negative: $T_1$). Clear identification of irradiated sample was only possible for irradiated anchovy with PSL counts >5000; however, the results were unsatisfactory (not positive) for irradiated cod, dried filefish, hairtail, and herring samples. The contaminating silicate minerals were obtained by density separation or acid hydrolysis to perform TL analysis, which resulted in a low intensity of TL glow curve with a maximum peak after $250^{\circ}C$ for the non-irradiated samples that are irrespective of their kinds and methods for the mineral separation. The TL glow curves of high intensity with maximum peak in the temperature range of $150-250^{\circ}C$ were observed for all the irradiated samples. However, better results of TL glow curves and particularly of the TL ratio ($TL_1/TL_2$) were obtained when the minerals were separated by a acid hydrolysis method.

Cr-N films were deposited on low-carbon steel sheets by the reactive arc-induced ion plating (AIIP). The influence of the deposition conditions (nitrogen pressure and substrate bias voltage) on the crystal orientation, morphology and microhardness of the Cr-N films has been investigated using x-ray diffractometer and scanning electron microscope. The impurities and contaminations on the surface and at the interface, and the layer-by-layer compositions of the film have been analyzed using scanning Auger multiprobe (SAM) and glow discharge spectroscope (GDS). The mixed state of Cr and Cr2N turned out to have a fine fibrous structure. The Cr2N films were deposited at a wide range of nitrogen flow rates. The orientations of Cr2N films were mainly (110) and (111), and the intensity of the (111) peak increased as the substrate bias voltage increased. The micorstructure of the Cr2N film was dense and no columnar structure was observed. The films in the mixed state of Cr2N and CrN were also dense without columnar structure. The maximum microhardness of the Cr-N films was 2400 kg/$\textrm{mm}^2$ at 10gf load.

The synthesis of $SrAI_2O_4:Eu^{2+}$ phosphor and its properties of both photoluminescence and long-phosphorescent were investigated as a function of sintering condition. Single phase of $SrAl_2O_4$ was obtained by sintering the mixtures of $SrCO_3$, $Eu_2O_3$, $AI_2O_34 and 3wt% $B_2O_3$ powders over 100$0^{\circ}C$ in Ar/H2 atmosphere. The optimum sintering condition for the long-phosphorescent phosphor of $SrAI_2O_4:Eu^{2+}$ was found at 130$0^{\circ}C$ for 3hours. The PL emission spectrum of $SrAI_2O_4:Eu^{2+}$ shows a maximum peak intensity at 520nm(2.384eV) with a broad emission extending from 450 to 650nm which resulted from the $4f^65d^1$$\rightarrow$$4f^7$ transition of $Eu^{+2}$ under 360nm exitation. Monitored at 520nm. the excita¬tion spectrum of $SrAI_2O_4:Eu^{2+}$ exhibits a maximum peak intensity at 360nm (3.44eV) with a broad absorption band extending from 250 to 480nm.
