  • A new low cost high power density photovoltaic power conditioning system (PV PCS) with an energy storage system is proposed in this paper. Its high power density and cost effectiveness can be achieved through the unification of the maximum power point tracker and the battery charger/discharger. Despite the reduced power stage, the proposed system can achieve the same performance in terms of maximum power point tracking and battery charging/discharging as the conventional system. When a utility power failure happens, the proposed system cannot perform maximum power point tracking at the UPS mode. However, the predetermined battery voltage near the maximum power point of the PV array can effectively generate a reasonable PV power even at the UPS mode. Therefore, it features a simpler structure, less mass, lower cost, and fewer devices. Finally, to confirm the operation, validity, and features of the proposed system, a theoretical analysis and experimental results from a single phase AC 220Vrms/1.5kW prototype are presented.

  • Since solar cells have non-linear voltage-current output characteristics, Photovoltaic systems require the Maximum Power Point Tracking(MPPT) function. For this reason, a large number of MPPT techniques have been studied. However, the conventional MPPT techniques may fail to track the maximum power point when partial shading occurs in the solar cell array due to its characteristics. Therefore, it is necessary to research the MPPT technique that can follow the maximum power point in the partial shadow condition. In this paper, the characteristics of solar cell arrays in partial shadowing are analyzed and the MPPT technique which can follow the maximum power point in partial shadow condition has been proposed. To validate the proposed MPPT method, simulation and experimentation results are provided.

  • In this paper, Maximum Power Point Tracking Method using Fuzzy controller is proposed to improve energy conversion efficiency. The solar cell has an optimum operating point to be able to get maximum power. To obtain maximum power from photovoltatic any, photovoltatic power system usually requires maximum power point tracking controller. The output characteristics of solar cell are nonlinear. To obtain maximum power from photsvoltatic array, the fuzzy controller only uses the output power. Therefore this control method is easy to implement to real system.

  • This paper proposes a novel sensorless maximum power point tracking (11PPT) algorithm for PV systems. The method is based on dividing the operating time into several intervals in which the PV terminals are short circuited in one interval and the calculated short-current of the PV is obtained and used to determine the optimum operating point where the maximum output power can be obtained. The proposed MPPT algorithm has been introduced into a current-controlled boost converter whose duty ratio is controlled to the maintain MPP condition. The same sequence is then repeated regularly capturing the PV maximum power. The main advantage of this method is eliminating the current sensor. Meanwhile, this MPPT algorithm reduces the power oscillations around the peak power point which occurs with perturbation and observation algorithms. In addition, the total cost will decrease by removing the current sensor from the PV side. Finally, simulation results confirm the accuracy of the proposed method.

  • The distributed maximum power point tracking (DMPPT) concept is widely adopted in photovoltaic systems to avoid mismatch loss. However, the high cost and complexity of DMPPT hinder its further promotion in practice. Based on the concept of DMPPT, this paper presents an integrated submodule level half-bridge stack structure along with an optimal current point tracking (OCPT) control algorithm. In this full power processing integrated solution, the number of power switches and passive components is greatly reduced. On the other hand, only one current sensor and its related AD unit are needed to perform the ideal maximum power generation for all of the PV submodules in any irradiance case. The proposal can totally eliminate different small-scaled mismatch effects in real-word condition and the true maximum power point of each PV submodule can be achieved. As a result, the ideal maximum power output of the whole PV system can be achieved. Compared with current solutions, the proposal further develops the integration level of submodule DMPPT solutions with a lower cost and a smaller size. Moreover, the individual MPPT tracking for all of the submodules are guaranteed.

  • In this study, constant power generation (CPG) algorithms are introduced for whole range power point tracking in photovoltaic systems. Currently, maximum power point tracking (MPPT) algorithm is widely used for high-power photovoltaic systems. However, MPPT algorithm cannot flexibly control such systems according to changing grid conditions. Maintaining grid stability has become important as the capacity of grid-connected photovoltaic systems is increased. CPG algorithms are required to generate the desired power depending on grid conditions. A grid-connected photovoltaic system is configured, and CPG algorithms are implemented. The performances of the implemented algorithms are compared and analyzed by experimental results.

  • This paper offers two Maximum Power Point Tracking (MPPT) systems for Photovoltaic (PV) applications. The first MPPT method is based on a fixed frequency Model Predictive Control (MPC). The second MPPT technique is based on the Predictive Hysteresis Control (PHC). An experimental demonstration shows that the proposed techniques are fast, accurate and robust in tracking the maximum power under different environmental conditions. A DC/DC converter with a high voltage gain is obligatory to track PV applications at the maximum power and to boost a low voltage to a higher voltage level. For this purpose, a high gain Switched Inductor Quadratic Boost Converter (SIQBC) for PV applications is presented in this paper. The proposed converter has a higher gain than the other transformerless topologies in the literature. It is shown that at a high gain the proposed SIQBC has moderate efficiency.

  • This paper presents the two modes for maximum power point tracking of the photovoltaic system. The method combines the merits of the two methods consisting of the open circuit method and the three point weight comparison method. The maximum point found by this method is exactly than by the open circuit method. By the simulation results, the actual maximum point can be found that is better than the Perturb and Observe (P&O) method or the three point weight method only one method, especially, in the case of non regular pattern of Power-Voltage (P-V) curve.

MPPT methods are used to maximize PV array output power by tracking maximum power point(MPP) continuously. To increase the output efficiency of PV system, it is important to have more efficient MPPT. MPPT algorithm is widely used the control method such as the perturbation and observation(PO) method, incremental conductance(IC) method and constant voltage(CV) method. • It proposes an efficient control algorithm to increase electric power transmission efficiency between photovoltaic power generating system and the grid. The main controller finds a maximum efficiency condition by considering the quantity of power generated from PV arrays, the number of inverters, and efficiency of PV inverter. According to the condition, a relay board arranges a point of contract of PV arrays. By the disposition of PV arrays, it assigns the optimized power on each PV inverter. Operational principle of the proposed maximum efficiency point tracking algorithm is given in detail. To verify the validity of the proposed approach, computer-aided simulation and experiment carried out.
