Simulation for Pitch Angle Control Strategies of a Grid-Connected Wind Turbine System on MATLAB/Simulink

  • This paper presents a pitch angle controller of a grid-connected wind turbine system for extracting maximum power from wind and implements a modeling and simulation of the wind turbine system on MATLAB/Simulink. It discusses the maximum power control algorithm for the wind turbine and presents, in a graphical form, the relationship of wind turbine output, rotor speed, and power coefficient with wind speed when the wind turbine is operated under the maximum power control algorithm. The objective of pitch angle control is to extract maximum power from wind and is achieved by regulating the blade pitch angle during above-rated wind speeds in order to bypass excessive energy in the wind. Case studies demonstrate that the pitch angle control is carried out to achieve maximum power extraction during above-rated wind speeds and effectiveness of the proposed controller would be satisfactory.

A Study on the Maximum Rate of Daily Users and the Turnover Rate of Parks in Korea (한국공원의 최대일율 및 회전율에 관한 연구)

  • The purpose of this study is to investigate the maximum rate of daily users and the turnover rate of parks in Korea. Median calculation, percentile analysis, and regression analysis methods were adopted for the investigation of the maximum rate of daily users. The maximum level, adaptable level and current dispersion of each index were analyzed. The results are summarized as follows. 1) It is location, kinds of facility, and purpose of visiting that mainly affect the concentration pattern of the number of park users. 2) Parks are devided into such three types as common urban park, royal tomb park, and large amusement park. 3) Spring is the peak season in all parks. 4) The maximum daily rates of the three types of parks are 0.92%, 1.86%, 1.18% respectively and the turnover rates are 18%, 54%, 63% respectively. 5) The results of this study show the necessity of the revision of the existing maximum daily rate and turnover rate.

A Low Cost Maximum Power Point Tracking Technique for the Solar Charger

  • In this paper, a simplified maximum power point tracking technique for the solar charger is presented. Main advantages of the proposed charger include low cost and optimized charge time. The maximum power point tracking method is used to deliver the maximum power from PV array to the battery thereby reducing the charge time. Moreover, the proposed technique which tracks the maximum power point by adjusting output current helps reduce the quantity of required number of sensors for the charger. The experimental protype was implemented by using an 80W PV array, a buck converter and a digital signal processor to verify the feasibility of the proposed method.

  • The constraint condition is the stator voltage and the stator current to operate the motor in the flux weakening region. The maximum current is limited by the inverter current rating and the machine thermal rating. Given DC link voltage to control the motor in the flux weakening the maximum voltage is determined by considering PWM strategy, dead time, voltage drop of the inverter switching device, and the margin of the voltage for current forcing. In this paper, the new method to determine the available maximum voltage is derived by the analythic method and by considering the factors of the voltage drop. So Determining the maximum voltage is very useful to enlarge the speed operation region in the flux weakening operation, the utility of the maximum voltage is increased.

  • This study is to analyze the impact of automotive body with computer simulation. The total deformation, equivalent strain and strain and principal stress are analyzed respectively in case of front, rear and side impacts. The maximum total deformation of side impact is more than 6 times as large as that of rear impact. The maximum equivalent strain or stress of side impact is more than 4 times as large as that of rear impact. These deformation, strain and stress of front impact are a little more than those of rear impact. The maximum principal stress of side impact is more than 4.5 times as large as that of rear impact. This stress of front impact is a little more than that of rear impact.

  • Estimated values for maximum lift coefficients of a light airplane, ChanGong-91, derived from an analytical method using a test database, a computational fluid dynamic method, a wind tunnel test, and a flight test are compared. The DATCOM method and VSAERO code are applied as the analytical method and the computational fluid dynamic method, respectively, in order to estimate the maximum lift coefficients of a light airplane. The wind tunnel test is conducted using a 1/14.5 scaled model installed in a closed circuit type wind tunnel. For the flight test approach, the wings-level power-off stall tests are performed to obtain the maximum lift coefficients. As a point of reference for the flight test results of the maximum lift coefficients, the differences of both estimates derived from the DATCOM method and the wind tunnel test data are smaller than those derived from VSAERO.

  • The photovoltaic generators have a nonlinear V-I characteristics and maximum power points which vary with the illumination levels and temperatures. Using maximum power point tracker with the intermediate converter can increase the system efficiency by matching the PV systems to the load. A novel MPPT control for photovoltaic system is proposed. The system input parameters are (dP, dI, and last incremental of duty ratio $L\deltaD$)and the output is the new incremental value (new ${\deltaD}$) according to the maximum power point under various illumination levels. Using fuzzy logic controller allows extracting the maximum power rapidly and without significant oscillations. Also FLC provides excellent features such as fast response, good performance and the ability to change the fuzzy parameters to improve control system.

  • This paper presents a modeling and simulation of a PI controller for maximum power extraction of a grid-connected wind energy conversion system with a link of a rectifier and an inverter. It discusses the maximum power control algorithm fnr a wind turbine and proposes, in a graphical form, the relationships of wind turbine output, rotor speed, power coefficient, tip-speed ratio with wind speed when the wind turbine is operated under the maximum power control. The control objective is to always extract maximum power from wind and transfer the power to the utility by controlling both the Pitch angle of the wind turbine blades and the inverter firing angle. Pitch control method is mechanically complicated, but the control performance is better than that of the stall regulation method. The simulation results performed on MATLAB will show the variation of generator's rotor angle and rotor speed, pitch angle, and generator output.

  • The maximum power analysis simulator took advantage of the facilities and power consumption reduction simulator test scenario development and testing of improvement in the scenario. As a maximum demand power controller, Maximum power analysis simulator performs control and disperasion of maximum demand power by calculating base power, load forecast, and present power which are based on signal of watt-hour meter to keep the electricity under the target. In addition, various algorithms to select appropriate control methode on each of the light installations through the peak demand power is configured to management. The simulation shows the success of control power for the specified target controlled by five sequential lighting installations.
