  • Recently the maximum speed becomes the most important performance in high speed train. But the speed up of train will not give the passenger good riding comfort. The semi-active suspension system by using variable damper with hydraulic solenoid valve is used to solve this problem. But the variable damper with hydraulic solenoid valve requires tank for supplying fluid. In this study, the MR(Magneto Rheological) damper was considered instead of hydraulic variable damper in order to improve riding comfort. Dynamic simulation was conducted for semi-active suspension system with MR damper was made by using Matlab-Simulink S/W. According to control strategy of MR damper for improving ride comfort in railway vehicle, The riding comfort of the railway vehicle with semi-active suspension system was analyzed and compared with conventional suspension system by using the program.

  • The high-voltage pulse generator is consist of transformers of fundamental wave and harmonic waves, and shunt capacitances. The pulse has the fundamental wave and the harmonic waves that have been increased as a series circuit by the transformers to make high voltage pulse. This paper shows that pulse generator circuit is analyzed using Miller's theorem and network theory(ABCD Matrix) and simulated in frequency and time domain using Matlab program. The output voltage of pulse were obtained to 2.5kHz, 1.8kV. Output pulse voltage increases as $L_m$ increases in low voltage circuit. In high voltage circuit, outer capacitors are related to frequency band pass characteristics.

  • A method for vibration analysis of asymmetric shear wall and Thin walled open section structures is presented in this paper. The whole structure is idealized as an equivalent bending-warping torsion beam in this method. The governing differential equations of equivalent bending-warping torsion beam are formulated using continuum approach and posed in the form of simple storey transfer matrix. By using the storey transfer matrices and point transfer matrices which consider the inertial forces, system transfer matrix is obtained. Natural frequencies can be calculated by applying the boundary conditions. The structural properties of building may change in the proposed method. A numerical example has been solved at the end of study by a program written in MATLAB to verify the presented method. The results of this example display the agreement between the proposed method and the other valid method given in literature.

  • Stiffened coupled shear walls (SCSW) are under axial load resulting from their weight and this axial load affects the behavior of walls because of their excessive height. In this paper, based on the continuum approach, the optimal position of the stiffening beam on the stiffened coupled shear walls is investigated considering the effect of uniformly distributed axial loads. Moreover, the effect of the height of stiffened coupled shear walls on the optimal position of the stiffening beam has been studied with and without considering the axial force effect. A computer program has been developed in MATLAB and numerical examples have been solved to demonstrate the reliability of this method. The effects of the various flexural rigidities of the stiffening beam on the internal forces and the lateral deflection of the structure considering axial force effect have also been investigated.

  • This paper presents an optimization process using Harmony Search Algorithm for minimum weight of steel space frames under earthquake effects according to Turkish Earthquake Code (2007) specifications. The optimum designs are carried out by selecting suitable sections from a specified list including W profiles taken from American Institute of Steel Construction (AISC). The stress constraints obeying AISC-Load and Resistance Factor Design (LRFD) specifications, lateral displacement constraints and geometric constraints are considered in the optimum designs. A computer program is coded in MATLAB for the purpose to incorporate with SAP2000 OAPI (Open Application Programming Interface) to perform structural analysis of the frames under earthquake loads. Three different steel space frames are carried out for four different seismic earthquake zones defined in Turkish Earthquake Code (2007). Results obtained from the examples show the applicability and robustness of the method.

  • In this paper, a simulation model for 7-phase BLDC motor drives for an Autonomous Underwater Vehicles (AUV) is proposed. A 7-phase BLDC motor is designed and the electrical characteristics are analyzed using FEA program and the power electronics drives for the 7-phase BLDC motor are theoretically analyzed and the actual implementation has been accomplished using Matlab Simulink. PI controller is used for verifying the validity of the proposed model and the informative results are described in detail.

  • In the paper, we present a practical design tool which allows us to design PID types and the first order lead/lag compensators incorporating the step response requirements in the stability. For a given plant transfer function of arbitrary order, this program provides a set of controller gains that satisfies both stability and time domain performances. This implies that even if one selects any controller parameters inside the set, the closed loop system with the controller gains meets the design objectives. This tool based on Matlab and GUI will be very useful for control design in the controller parameter space, especially when time domain requirement is given.

  • The 1st and 2nd tension forces of the PSSC(Prestressed Steel and Concrete) girder constructed with commercial rolling beams and concrete are optimally designed. The design variables are the 1st and 2nd tension forces due to multi-step prestressing and live load. The objective function is set to the maximum live load. Design conditions are allowable stress at the top and bottom of slab, beam and infilled concrete due to a construction step. An Optimization of Matlab based program Is developed. The results show that the tendon position and concrete compression strength etc are important.

  • This paper describes an approach to estimate a robot pose with an image. The algorithm of pose estimation with an image can be broken down into three stages : extracting scale-invariant features, matching these features and calculating affine invariant. In the first step, the robot mounted mono camera captures environment image. Then feature extraction is executed in a captured image. These extracted features are recorded in a database. In the matching stage, a Random Sample Consensus(RANSAC) method is employed to match these features. After matching these features, the robot pose is estimated with positions of features by calculating affine invariant. This algorithm is implemented and demonstrated by Matlab program.

  • To apply the appropriate new grounding system to domestic power system, safety has to be guaranteed under the given circumstances. It is not possible to decide the safety of grounding systems by the experimental test because safety experiments directly relate to the human life and the installed electric machines. Therefore, the computer simulation program to decide the safety of grounding systems based on the IEC standard systems, has to be developed. This paper proposes the computer simulation based method to decide the safety of grounding system with the concepts of touch voltage, step voltage, human resistivity, and applied electric current according to the several conditions of human body located in the corresponding grounding systems. The proposed method is implemented by Matlab/Simulink and Visual C++ programming tools for its visualization.
