  • ChatGPT, commercial launch in late 2022, has shown successful results in various professional exams, including US Bar Exam and the United States Medical Licensing Exam (USMLE), demonstrating its ability to pass qualifying exams in professional domains. However, further experimentation and analysis are required to assess ChatGPT's scholastic capability, such as logical inference and problem-solving skills. This study evaluated ChatGPT's scholastic performance utilizing the Korean College Scholastic Ability Test (KCSAT) subjects, including Korean, English, and Mathematics. The experimental results revealed that ChatGPT achieved a relatively high accuracy rate of 69% in the English exam but relatively lower rates of 34% and 19% in the Korean Language and Mathematics domains, respectively. Through analyzing the results of the Korean language exam, English exams, and TOPIK II, we evaluated ChatGPT's strengths and weaknesses in comprehension and logical inference abilities. Although ChatGPT, as a generative language model, can understand and respond to general Korean, English, and Mathematics problems, it is considered weak in tasks involving higher-level logical inference and complex mathematical problem-solving. This study might provide simple yet accurate and effective evaluation criteria for generative artificial intelligence performance assessment through the analysis of KCSAT scores.

  • 2007 Curriculum Revision adopted new Inquiry Activities in mathematical textbooks. So it is critical to analyze the problems of actual application of Inquiry activities in the classrooms. For this purpose, we analyzed the Inquiry activities of Measurement Area of the textbooks and find the appropriate solutions. Secondly, we develop the reorganization materials to fix and solve the existing problems found in the previous problem analysis, and apply the development materials and examine the effects afterwards. The results of the survey indicated that most of teachers are well aware of the importance of Inquiry Activities. However, many teachers answered that Inquiry activities does contain neither diverse strategic approaches nor solutions accommodating with various learning levels of students. The most difficult points to educate Inquiry Activities are that it is difficult to teach students based on individual learning level and that activities consist of mainly short answers that makes it difficult to do in-depth Inquiry Activities. Analyzing Inquiry Activities in the textbook shows that Inquiry Activities in some chapters were constructed as simple sentence questions or presented with the solving process in the questions themselves. The following application classes were implemented by partially taking advantage of the newly developed reorganization materials. Then, the effects were measured by before and after questionnaires, the survey to teachers, and the results of activities. The reorganization materials were effective at arousing the curiosity from students as well as enabling the natural ability-level driven classes.

  • This study is to provide didactical implications for teaching and learning of radian through a analysis of investigation result about pre-service teachers' understanding of radian. The results of this study are as follows. First, pre-service teachers understood the radian as ${\frac{180^{\circ}}{\pi}}$, rather than as the definition. Secondly, the definition style of radian affected the problem solving strategy for the measurement of the angle. Thirdly, pre-service teachers had insufficient content knowledge about properties of measurement as a pure number of radian. Lastly, They failed to describe the usefulness of circular measure. We suggested the definition of radian in textbooks should be changed from ${\frac{180^{\circ}}{\pi}}$ to mathematical definition of radian. And the general angle should be stated as the reason why the domain of trigonometric function is real numbers.

  • A LFSR is commonly used for various stream cryptography applications to generate random numbers. A Leap-ahead LFSR was presented to generate a multi-bits random number per cycle. It only requires a single LFSR and it has an advantages in hardware complexity. However, it suffers from the significant reduction of maximum period of the generated random numbers. This paper presents the new segmented Leap-ahead LFSR to solve this problem. It consists of two segmented LFSRs. We prove the efficiency of the proposed segmented architecture using the precise mathematical analysis. We also demonstrate the proposed comparison results with other counterparts using Xinilx Vertex5 FPGA. The proposed architecture can increase 2.5 times of the maximum period of generated random numbers compared to the typical Leap-ahead architecture.

  • When the transverse bed slope ($S_t$) in channel bend is more than 0.1, it may produce undesirable results on the bed topography of the cross section. The linear relationship for $S_t$ results in zero or negative flow depths at the shallow $S_t$de of the cross section (i.e., inner bank). The exponential relationship for $S_t$ results in excessive flow depths at the deep side of the cross section (i.e., outer bank). This problem can be solved by combining the best features of both relationships described above. From the study, the linear relationship can be applied for the deep $S_t$de of the cross section. But the exponential relationship is suitable for the shallow side. Therefore, the new relationship of $S_t$ is clarified mathematically. A new mathematical model for bed topography is developed herein which takes accounts of the phase lag and the influence of the width to depth ratio. This model is used to analyze two sets of data: one from laboratory channel and the other from natural channel. A good agreement is found between the observed and the calculated bed topography based on the analysis of two sets of data.

  • As a popular mathematical framework for modeling decision making, Markov decision process (MDP) has been widely used to solve problem in many engineering fields. MDP consists of a set of discrete states, a finite set of actions, and rewards received after reaching a new state by taking action from the previous state. The objective of MDP is to find an optimal policy, that is, to find the best action to be taken in each state to maximize the expected discounted reward of policy (EDR). In practice, MDP is typically unknown, so simulation-based policy improvement (SBPI), which improves a given base policy sequentially by selecting the best action in each state depending on rewards observed via simulation, can be a practical way to find the optimal policy. However, the efficiency of SBPI is still a concern since many simulation samples are required to precisely estimate EDR for each action in each state. In this paper, we propose a method to select the best action accurately in each state using a small number of simulation samples, thereby improving the efficiency of SBPI. The proposed method accumulates the simulation samples observed in the previous states, so it is possible to precisely estimate EDR even with a small number of samples in the current state. The results of comparative experiments on the existing method demonstrate that the proposed method can improve the efficiency of SBPI.

  • As a representative concept of the fourth industrial revolution era where everything is digitized, digital twin means analyzing and optimizing a complex system using a simulation model synchronized with the system. In this paper, we propose a digital twin simulation model for the efficient operation of urban railways in Busan. Due to the geopolitical nature of Busan, where there are many mountains and narrow roads, the railways are more useful than other public transportation. However, this inversely results in a high level of congestion, which is an inconvenience to citizens and may be fatal to the spread of the virus, such as COVID19. Considering these characteristics, the proposed model analyzes the congestion level of the railways in Busan. The model is developed based on a mathematical formalism called discrete-event system specification and deduces the congestion level and the average waiting time of passengers depending on the train schedule. In addition, a new schedule to reduce the congestion level is derived through particle swarm optimization, which helps the efficient operation of the railways. Although the model is developed for the railways in Busan, it can also be used for railways in other cities where a high level of congestion is a problem.

  • In the Part 1 paper (Gawin, et al. 2005) some experimental results concerning micro-structural tests, permeability measurements and stress-strain tests of four types of High Performance Concrete, exposed to elevated temperatures (up to $700^{\circ}C$) are presented and discussed. On the basis of these experimental results parameters of the constitutive relationships describing influence of damage and temperature upon material intrinsic permeability at high temperature were determined. In this paper the effects of various formulations of damage-permeability coupling on results of computer simulations are analysed and compared with the results obtained by means of the previously proposed approach, that does not take into account the thermo-chemical concrete damage directly. Numerical solutions are obtained using the recently developed fully coupled model of hygro-thermal and damage phenomena in concrete at elevated temperatures. High temperature effects are considered by means of temperature and pressure dependence of several material parameters. Based on the mathematical model, the computer code HITECOSP was developed. Material parameters of the model were measured by several European laboratories, which participated in the "HITECO" research project. A model problem, concerning hygro-thermal behaviour and degradation of a HPC structure during fire, is solved. The influence of two different constitutive descriptions of the concrete permeability changes at high temperature, including thermo-chemical and mechanical damage effects, upon the results of computer simulations is analysed and discussed.
