  • The purpose of this study is to introduce the math-clinic programs which offer to engineering students and to compare the subject satisfaction between participants and non-participants. Five math-clinic programs are operated and 1397 students took part in this study. As a result, the Likert-type scales of satisfaction with three programs; the exercise problems solving class, the tutoring program and the achievement tests, were 4.07, 4.05 and 3.95, respectively(5-point Likert-type scale). And we found that the participants expressed higher subject satisfactions than nonparticipations did.

  • The purpose of this work is to explain the necessity and operation method of college mathematics clinic, investigating the reason why college students like and dislike mathematics. It is difficult for each professor alone to operate college mathematics clinic without students\` helping. They need to work together. For mathematics clinic operation, the following will be practiced: 1) make use of math-class, 2) help of math-club, 3) make internet homepage, 4) use of university institution and laboratory.

  • There are various efforts to alleviate problems about the learning disabilities each year, however, the number of the learning disabilities has been increasing. Therefore, we need to consider and develop practical methods to help them. In this aspect, we review and examine previous research regarding the learning disabilities which are known to be general and comprehensive. Then we suggest math clinic as one of the methods to alleviate the problem. There are purposes of the math clinic. The first is to make a comprehensive diagnosis for basic (emotional, environmental, psychological) reasons as well as the learning anxiety; not only the lower achievement in learning. The second is to provide them suitable corrective programs which would help them to gain a better understanding about mathematics and a positive learning attitude. The third is to provide them applicabilities in their learning and potentialities so that we have given them foundation in mathematics. In this article, we operate math clinic for the learning disabilities, and then make an analysis of the student's error occurred in learning, and finally we suggest a demonstrative operating program of math clinic for learning disabilities.

  • The importance of mathematics is increasing as human beings are entering the 4th industrial revolution era from the information society. In response to this trend, the government is also paying a lot of attention to math education by addressing 2012 mathematics education as 'the year of mathematics education.' However, many students are still suffering from mathematics and they feel math is difficult and even give up math. For this cause, students who give up math are showing up a lot in middle and high schools. For these math low achievers, the government, educational institutions, research institutes, and schools are creating and implementing a lot of programs. Among these programs, there is also a program called Math Clinic counseling. However, most of these math clinic counseling end up in a one-time events or are not linked to class because counselors and math teachers are different. So, this research focuses on this fact : gap between math clinical counseling and real mathematics class. The study analyze the reasons of the cause of low level of self-confidence in math and high level of math anxiety from the students. And it suggests some strategies for the individual students base on their difficulties. Applying these strategies to the students, the study mainly focused on how the strategies are presented in real class by observing practical classes.

  • This study was performed in part with the task to find measures to improve the defining characteristics of feelings, value, interest, self-efficacy, and others aspects in regards to learning math among elementary and middle school students. For this study, it was essential to understand the appropriate questions that are needed to be asked during a consultation at a math clinic, for students that are having a hard time learning math. As a method for performing this study, the content of scheduled counseling over 2 years from a math clinic were collected and the questions that were given and taken were analyzed in order to figure out the types of questions needed in order to effectively examine students that are facing difficulty with learning math. The analysis was performed using Grounded theory analysis by Strauss & Corbin(1998) and went through the process of open coding, axial coding, and selective coding. For the paradigm in the categorical analysis stage, 'attitude towards learning math' was set as the casual condition, 'feelings towards learning math' was set as the contextual condition, 'confidence in one's ability to learn math' was set as the phenomenon, 'individual tendencies when learning math' was set as the intervening condition, 'self-management of learning math' was set as the action/interaction strategy, and 'method of learning' was set as the consequence. Through this, the questions that appeared during counseling were linked into categories and subcategories. Through this process, 81 concepts were deducted, which were grouped into 31 categories. I believe that this data can be used as grounded theory for standardization of consultation in clinics.

  • Recently, 'students who gave up mathematics' became social problems. The need for systematic support for spreading and seating mathematics clinics was recognized. The mathematics clinic emphasizes the change of the affective aspects by constantly meeting the students and listening to the worries of the students. It is also a program that guides students in the future to see mathematics in a positive way. However, at school, mathematics clinics are operated in various forms at the discretion of teachers. Therefore, it is difficult to confirm whether the purpose of the mathematics clinic is being achieved properly. It is necessary to prepare a plan that can act as a guideline to check the necessary basic items for the runs of the math clinic and to check the necessary parts in the course of runs The purpose of this study is to develop a model for evaluating mathematics clinic programs which can be a guideline for the operation of mathematics clinic programs in a systematic way and to reduce the confusion of operation of mathematics clinics at the schools. We expect that this evaluation model could provide a direction for the operation of a math clinic.

The results obtained in this study are followings. Firstly, there was significant difference in self efficacy and anxiety between boys and girls among emotional factors, and there was significant difference in math between boys and girls among academic achievement factors. Secondly, after applying the learning clinic program, significant difference is found in all factors such as self efficacy, learning motivation, anxiety and academic stress, and there was also a significant difference in Korean language, mathematics, sociology and science among academic achievement factors. In conclusion, the learning clinic program was helpful to maladjusted children by improving emotional stability and academic achievement.
