The paper presents a methodology to model three-dimensional reinforced concrete members by means of embedded discontinuity elements based on the Continuum Strong Discontinuous Approach (CSDA). Mixture theory concepts are used to model reinforced concrete as a 3D composite material constituted of concrete with long fibers (rebars) bundles oriented in different directions embedded in it. The effects of the rebars are modeled by phenomenological constitutive models devised to reproduce the axial non-linear behavior, as well as the bond-slip and dowel action. The paper presents the constitutive models assumed for the components and the compatibility conditions chosen to constitute the composite. Numerical analyses of existing experimental reinforced concrete members are presented, illustrating the applicability of the proposed methodology.

In this study, using constant normal stiffness(CNS) direct shear tests, side shear load distribution were analyzed by the influencing parameters of unconfined compressive strength, surface roughness, confining stress, and material properties. Based on the CNS tests, side shear load transfer function of drilled shafts in rock is proposed using geological strength index(GSI), which indicates discontinuity and surface condition of rock mass in Hoek-Brown criterion. Though comparisons with results of nine drilled shafts's load tests, it is found that the load-transfer curve by this study is in good agreement with the general trend observed by in situ measurements, and thus represents a significant improvement in the prediction of bearing capacity of drilled shaft.
In this paper, we presented the exact Riemann solver for the air-water two-phase shock tube problems where the strength of the propagated sock wave is moderately weak. The shock tube has a diaphragm in the middle which separates water medium in the left and air medium in the right. By rupturing the diaphragm, various waves such as rarefaction wave, shock wave and contact discontinuity are propagated into water and air. Both fluids are treated as compressible, with the linearized equations of state. We used the isentropic relations for the air and water assuming a weak shock wave. We solved the shock tube problem considering a high pressure in the water and a low pressure in the air. The numerical results cleary showed a left-traveling rarefaction wave in the water, a right-traveling shock wave in the air, and the right-traveling material interface.
In this paper, we present the exact Riemann solver for the compressible liquid-gas two-phase shock tube problems. We hereby consider both isentropic and non-isentropic two-phase flows. The shock tube has a diaphragm in the mid-section which separates the liquid medium on the left and the gas medium on the right. By rupturing the diaphragm, various waves are observed on the phasic field variables such as pressure, density, temperature and void fraction in the form of rarefaction wave, shock wave and material interface (contact discontinuity). Both phases are treated as compressible fluids using the linearized equation of state or the stiffened-gas equation of state. We solve several shock tube problems made of a high/low pressure in the liquid and a low/high pressure in the gas. The wave propagations are well resolved by the exact Riemann solutions.

Since quasi-brittle material like concrete shows strain localization behavior accompanied by strain softening, a numerical drawback such as mesh sensitivity is appeared in the finite element analysis. In this study, a homogenized crack model which overcomes the drawback and considers rate discontinuity in the constitutive equation is proposed for modeling of cracking in concrete and its propagation in strain softening regime. Then, a series of finite element analysis of the concrete under various loading conditions has been performed. From comparison of analysis results with experimental data, it is shown that failure behavior due to localized cracking of concrete under both compressive loading condition and tensile loading condition is well predicted by the homogenized crack model.

The purpose of this study is to investigate the seismic behavior of reinforced concrete bridge piers and to provide the data for developing improved seismic design criteria. A computer program, named RCAHEST(Reinforced Concrete Analysis in Higher Evaluation System Technology), for the analysis of reinforced concrete structures was used. Material nonlinearity is taken into account by comprising tensile, compressive and shear models of cracked concrete and a model of reinforcing steel. The smeared crack approach is incorporated. In boundary plane at which each member with different thickness is connected. local discontinuity in deformation due to the abrupt change in their stiffness can be taken into account by introducing interface element. The effect of number of load reversals with the same displacement amplitude has been also taken into account to model the reinforcing steel and concrete. The proposed numerical method for the prediction of seismic behavior for reinforced concrete bridge piers is veri fief by comparison with the reliable experimental results.

In this paper, the deformation method for inner and outer races of rollr-bearing bymeans of the warm precision forging is investigated. We adapted the process designsuch as following that, toincrease Die life, reduce heat transfer through conduction and the eccentricity of preform in warm forging of bearing gace, the bottom portion of billet is formed during upsetting process. Then it is backward extruded, and thus obtained ring preform is formed by combined extrusion. Also, we compared it with the froming method in China and Japan, and we have known it is more excellent method. Basides, this forming method is simulated by UBST which is based on the merits of UBET nd FEM. The results show that it is easy to know the exact location of neutral surface through the inspection of streamline during combined extrusion, and the velocity vector distribution along the surface of velocity discontinuity is investigationed. Also the effectiveness of this method is proved by te experiment using model material that is Plasticine.

Monobloc technology Provides a homogeneous material along the complete tubular shaft without any discontinuity between the interconnecting tube and the stems as is found when the tubes and stems have been Joined by welding. Cold tube drawing is a technique that can be applied for manufacturing of those monobloc tubular shafts with several advantages such as high productivity and cost reduction. The present study is concerned with the investigation about the process parameters related with tool configuration. In order to obtain successfully formed SIS(Steering Input Shaft) without any defects, advanced design of mandrel is presented and analyzed by the FEM and ductile fracture criterion in this paper.
This paper presents a novel implicit level set method for topology optimization of functionally graded (FG) structures with pre-existing discontinuities (pre-cracks) using radial basis functions (RBF). The mathematical formulation of the optimization problem is developed by incorporating RBF-based nodal densities as design variables and minimizing compliance as the objective function. To accurately capture crack-tip behavior, crack-tip enrichment functions are introduced, and an eXtended Finite Element Method (X-FEM) is employed for analyzing the mechanical response of FG structures with strong discontinuities. The enforcement of boundary conditions is achieved using the Hamilton-Jacobi method. The study provides detailed mathematical expressions for topology optimization of systems with defects using FG materials. Numerical examples are presented to demonstrate the efficiency and reliability of the proposed methodology.
This paper proposes a novel topology optimization method generating multiple materials for external linear plane crack structures based on the combination of IsoGeometric Analysis (IGA) and eXtended Finite Element Method (X-FEM). A so-called eXtended IsoGeometric Analysis (X-IGA) is derived for a mechanical description of a strong discontinuity state's continuous boundaries through the inherited special properties of X-FEM. In X-IGA, control points and patches play the same role with nodes and sub-domains in the finite element method. While being similar to X-FEM, enrichment functions are added to finite element approximation without any mesh generation. The geometry of structures based on basic functions of Non-Uniform Rational B-Splines (NURBS) provides accurate and reliable results. Moreover, the basis function to define the geometry becomes a systematic p-refinement to control the field approximation order without altering the geometry or its parameterization. The accuracy of analytical solutions of X-IGA for the crack problem, which is superior to a conventional X-FEM, guarantees the reliability of the optimal multi-material retrofitting against external cracks through using topology optimization. Topology optimization is applied to the minimal compliance design of two-dimensional plane linear cracked structures retrofitted by multiple distinct materials to prevent the propagation of the present crack pattern. The alternating active-phase algorithm with optimality criteria-based algorithms is employed to update design variables of element densities. Numerical results under different lengths, positions, and angles of given cracks verify the proposed method's efficiency and feasibility in using X-IGA compared to a conventional X-FEM.
