  • When earth structures such as dykes or embankments are constructed on very soft clay foundation, unexpectedly large deformations of earth structures as well as clay foundation are encountered during and after construction. The final constructed section is composed of a portion of embankment above the existing ground level and that which penetrated into the soft foundation soil. This study is aimed to correctly estimate the shape of earth structures which penetrate some depth into the soft clay foundation. In this study the methods to predict penetration depth and deformation shape of embankment section after dumping of construction material. Model tests were carried out to prove the developed theory and FEM analysis. And when the mat is added, reinforcement effect was markedly noticed.

  • This paper has the object of investigating dynamic stability of opening thick plates on Pasternak foundation by means of finite element method and providing Kinematic design data for mat of building structures. Finite element analysis of Tapered Thick plate is done by use of rectangular (mite element with 8-nodes. In order to analysis plate which is supported on Pasternak foundation, the Winkler foundation parameter is varied with $10^2,\;10^3$ and the shear foundation parameter is 5, 10. The ratio of In-plane force to critical load is applied as 0.4, 0.6, respectively. This paper analyzed varying Tapered Ratio.

  • A rule based system for foundation design of building structures is developed with CLIPS in this study. The types of foundation and the allowable bearing capacity of supporting soil inferred by the rule based system for selection of foundation type, called SOFTEX, are transferred to a structural design program for building foundation. The allowable bearing capacity is calculated with N values of Standard Penetration Test. The foundation types such as independent spread footing, wall footing, combined footing and mat foundation can be inferred by the foundation merge procedure developed in this study. This procedure is based on the analysis data from the super structure and the estimated bearing capacity. By using this integrated system, structural engineers with less experience in foundation design can design the foundation system for the given superstructure and the site condition with relative ease.

  • This paper described a results of field test based on plate bearing test of the restoration material, which was developed to restore the ground cavity due to sewerage damage. The analysis of bearing capacity characteristics on the restoration materials was performed by experimental results. The results showed that the load bearing capacity in the maximum stress condition of the foundation ground is about 66%-70%, when the expansion mat is embedded at the bottom of 0.1 m and 0.2 m from the ground surface. However, The load bearing capacity of expansion mat according to embedded depth was not large. The load bearing capacity of concrete mats was about 82%-90% compared with that of ground surface, and it showed about 50% of the load bearing capacity compared with the expansion mat. As a result of analysis of allowable bearing capacity according to restoration materials, it was confirmed that the allowable bearing capacity of the expansion mat and the concrete was about 130%-150% and about 160% more than the foundation ground, respectively.

  • This paper deals with vibration of plates with concentrated mass on elastic foundation. The object of investigating natural frequencies of tapered thick plate on pasternak foundation by means of finite element method and providing kinetic design data for mat of building structures. Free vibration analysis that tapered thick plate in this paper. Finite element analysis of rectangular plate is done by use of rectangular finite element with 8-nodes. In order to analysis plate which is supported on pasternak foundation. The Winkler parameter is varied with 10, $10^2$, $10^3$ and the shear foundation parameter is 5, 10. This paper is analyzed varying thickness by taper ratio. The taper ratio is applied as 0.0, 0.25, 0.5, 0.75, 1.0. And the Concentrated Mass is applied as P1, Pc, P2 respectively.

  • In this study, two extreme cases of compatibility of the horizontal displacements between the foundation and soil are considered, for which the pressure and settlements of the isolated footings and member end actions in structural elements are obtained using the three dimensional models and numerical experiments. The first case considered is complete slip between foundation and soil, termed as the un-coupled analysis. In the second case of analysis, termed as the coupled analysis, complete welding is assumed of joints between the foundation and soil elements. The model and the corresponding computer program developed simulate these two extreme states of compatibility giving insight into the variation of horizontal displacements and horizontal stresses and their intricacies, for evaluation of the influence of using the interface elements in soil-structure interaction analysis of three dimensional multiscale structures supported by isolated footings.
