  • The extracts of Carica papaya (flower), Barringtonia macrostachya (leaves), Coleus tuberosus (tuber), Mangifera indica (fruit skin) and Eugenia polyantha (leaves) showed strong in vitro anti-tumor promoting activity when assayed using Raji cells (Mooi et al., 1999). The antitumor promoting activity of the crude extracts was further analyzed by immunoblotting analysis of Raji cells carving Epstein-Barr virus genome. The expression of early antigens diffuse (EA-D) and early antigens restricted (EA-R) was determined by performing western blotting of treated Raji cells with human sera of nasopharyngeal carcinoma patients. All the plant extracts were shown to be able to suppress both EA-D and EA-R.

  • The permeability of converter slag, replacing material of sand mat on improving soft clay foundation, was evaluated in the laboratory as well as in situ test. Effects of grain size, flow water time and aging were investigated using sea and fresh water Converter slag which has a grain size less than 10mm were submerged with fresh water and sea water. In fresh water, the coefficients of permeability in samples A and B were measured as 4.50${\times}$10$^{-2}$ cm per second and 1.20${\times}$10$^{-1}$ cm per second, respectively while as 1.88$\times$10$^{-2}$ cm per second and 3.86$\times$10$^{-1}$ cm per second in sea water. The condition of turbulent flow may exit and was experimentally certified based on the relationship of hydraulic gradient and seepage velocity. After 180 days in using sea water, the coefficients of permeability of samples A and B decreased ten times smaller than those initial values, and after that time continually decreased as for till 360 days. Finally, filling with voids in high-calcium quicklime(CaO) may result in the reduction of coefficient of permeability. In-situ coefficient of permeability however was Practically satisfactory.

  • An aircraft impact (AI) on a nuclear power plant (NPP) is considered to be a beyond-design-basis event that draws considerable attention in the nuclear field. As some NPPs have already adopted the seismic isolation technology, and there are relevant standards to guide the application of this technology in future NPPs, a new challenge is that nuclear power engineers have to determine a reasonable method for performing AI analysis of base-isolated NPPs. Hence, dynamic influences of the seismic isolation on the vibration and structural damage characteristics of the base-isolated CPR1000 containment are studied under various aircraft loads. Unlike the seismic case, the impact energy of AI is directly impacting on the superstructure. Under the coupled influence of the seismic isolation and the various AI load, the flexible isolation layer weakens the constraint function of the foundation on the superstructure, the results show that the seismic isolation bearings will produce a large horizontal deformation if the AI load is large enough, the acceleration response at the base-mat will also be significantly affected by the different horizontal stiffness of the isolation bearing. These concerns require consideration during the design of the seismic isolation system.

  • In this study, the temperature history and compressive strength of the concretes according to the type of cement were measured and analyzed in comparison as part of the experiment on the material mixing side to reduce the hydration heat crack of the mat foundation constructed with mass concrete. As a result, the peak temperature and maximum temperature reach time of concrete using high rapid cement were shown to be similar to that of semi rapid cement. In particular, in compressive strength after three days, semi rapid cement was measured higher than that of concrete using high rapid cement. Therefore, if semi rapid cement is used in accordance with the site conditions, it is deemed possible to shorten the air due to reduction of temperature cracks and improvement of initial strength.

  • The permeability of converter slag, replacing material of sand mat on improving soft clay foundation, was evaluated in the laboratory. The effects of grain size, flow water time and aging were investigated using sea and fresh water. In the case of converter slag submerged with fresh water, the coefficients of permeability in A and B samples less than 10 mm grain sizes were measured as $6.52\times10^{-2}cm\; per\; sec\; and\; 5.99\times10^{-1}/cm$ per sec respectively, while they were $1.88\times10^{-2}/cm\; per\; sec,\; 3.86\times10^{-1}/cm$ per sec respectively under sea water condition. Also, the condition of turbulent flow may exit and was experimentally identified from the relationship between hydraulic gradient and seepage velocity. After 100 days under sea water condition, the coefficients of permeability of A and B samples decreased ten times than initial values. The reduction of permeability coefficient was considered to result from the filling of voids in high-calcium quicklime(CaO).

  • Recently, Water quiality of urban river largely have gotten better by virtue of sewer pipe laying and sewage treatment plants construction. or the various contaminants which is flowed in into river have generated underwater ecosystem disturbance and red tide by lack of sewage and waste water disposal facilities. With tidal river, taehwa river of ulsan metropolitan city has large river width and gradual stream bed gradient at the dry and storage period. Moreover, the flow is paralyzed due to the bridge pier protection work, consist of the mat foundation which is about 1.2km from two bridge and the contaminant is accumulated. it is caused by of the red tide generated from the several years or it activates. In this study, When flow area is largest by changing independent footing of bridge pier of two bridges and using RMA2 model, we hydraulically analyzed a variable breadth of velocity and discharge. Consequently, flow rate increased the maximum 103%, discharge was exposed to increase the maximum 61%. Directly this cannot extinguish the red tide but suppresses the red tide occurrence or can reduce. And it is determined to prevent the depositioning of the contaminant and can control fundamentally the red tide occurrence cause.

  • Opportunistic infections due to Cryptococcus neoformans and C. gattii species complexes continue to rise unabated among HIV/AIDS patients, despite improved antifungal therapies. Here, we collected a total of 20 environmental and 25 presumptive clinical cryptococcal isolates from cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) samples of 175 patients enrolled in an ongoing clinical trial Ambition 1 Project (Botswana-Harvard Partnership). Identity confirmation of the isolates was done using MALDI-TOF MS and PCR. We describe the diversity of the isolates by PCR fingerprinting and sequencing (Oxford Nanopore Technology) of the intergenic spacer region. Mating types of the isolates were determined by amplification of the MAT locus. We report an unusual prevalence of 42.1% of C. neoformans × C. deneoformans hybrids Serotype AD (n = 16), followed by 39.5% of C. neoformans Serotype A (n = 15), 5.3% of C. deneoformans, Serotype D (n = 2), 7.9% of C. gattii (n = 3), and 5.3% of C. tetragattii (n = 2) in 38 representative isolates that have been characterized. Mating type-specific PCR performed on 38 representative environmental and clinical isolates revealed that 16 (42.1%) were MATa/MAT𝛼 hybrids, 17 (44.7%) were MAT𝛼, and five (13.2%) possessed MATa mating type. We used conventional and NGS platforms to demonstrate a potential link between environmental and clinical isolates and lay a foundation to further describe mating patterns/history in Botswana.

  • According to the recent tendency that the buildings in the downtown are gradually Manhattanized, the very thick massive concrete is selected as the foundation of architectures. By the way, because this mass concrete cannot be simultaneously pour in a great quantity due to the circumstance at the field, not only the questions on the unification between the concretes pour on the upper layer and the lower layer are presented but also the cracks by the internal force from the difference of hydration exothermic period are occurred, which are pointed out as the problems. Thus, this study performed Mock-up test to apply the hydration heat controlling method of massive concrete for horizontal partition pouring construction to the building sites for the purpose of securing the stability on the cracks by the internal force from the difference of hydration exothermic period on the upper layer and the lower layer of massive concrete and checked the efficiency. As the results of test, in case of setting time difference method by super retarder with 2 layers and 4 layers, the effect that temperature gaps between upper part and lower part were lowered and the possibility of crack occurrence was decreased as the peak time of the heat of hydration became delayed to the latter term could be confirmed.

  • This study carried out a Mock-up test to apply Low-heat Cement (CF) that is adjusted to a fineness of $3,000\;{\pm}\;200\;cm^2/g$ by substituting Coarse particle Cement (CC) and fly ash with ordinary Portland Cement (OPC), then applied it on-site. The result of the test is as follows. The Mock-up test showed that the amount of admixture in CF increased SP agent and AE agent slightly more compared to OPC, while temperature history showed that the highest temperature of CF was around $6{\sim}10^{\circ}C$ lower than that of OPC. Compressive strength in CF was low compared to that of OPC, but the strength width became narrow at the age of 28 days, which is not considered to be significant. In on-site application, slump, air content and chloride content all satisfied the target values, while the temperature history showed that the highest temperature in the center by each cast was about $34^{\circ}C$ in the first cast, $42^{\circ}C$ in the second cast, and $39^{\circ}C$ in the third cast. Compressive strength of specimen for strut management showed low value compared to standard curing, but its strength was reduced at the age of 28 days.
