In this study, to improve the ride and handling characteristics of the vehicle whose hard points have been already fixed, a tuning method of load spring, damper and stabilizer bar is described. For the suspension system of vehicle, optimized design is necessary to satisfy the incompatible two dynamic characteristics which are the ride isolation property between unsprung mass and sprung mass to reduce the excitation from the road and the accurate correring response property to specific steering inputs. To accomplish above aims, we may approach by experimental method, but it requires to sacrifice much time and cost. This paper, therefore, provides a process of suspension development to improve the ride and handling properties by using computer simulation with saving time and cost, and as results, comparaes the dynamic characteristics of the tuned vehicle with the base vehicle not tuned.
The aim this study is to provide fundamental informations for the development of magneticfluid damper. To achieve the aim. the damping effect of magneticfluid is investigated by experiments that the diameter of inner circular bar and the input amplitude vary in the magnetic field generated by the permanent magnet and the electromagnet. From the study, the following conclusive remarks can be made. As the diameter of inner circular bar and the input amplitude increase. the damping effect is improved. And we can know that as the contact area between inner circular bar and magneticfluid increases, damping ratio is improved. Also we consider the cases that there is magnetism generated by electromagnet and DC voltage is supplied to electromagnet from 10V to 50V by 10V. In these cases, the amplitude ratio decreases sharply from 1.8 1.0 And for these cases, the damping ratio is .745.
The seismic responses of a base isolated Pressurized Water Reactor (PWR) are investigated using a mathematical model which expresses the superstructure as lumped mass-spring model and the seismic isolator as an equivalent spring-damper. Time history analyses are performed for the 1940 E1 Centre earthquakes in both horizontal and vertical directions. In the analysis, structural damping of 5% is used for the superstructure. The isolator damping ratios of 12% for horizontal and 5% for vertical directions are used. The acceleration responses in base isolated PWR superstructure with high damping rubber bearings are much smaller than those in fixed base structure in horizontal direction. However, the vertical acceleration responses at the superstructure in the base isolation system are amplified to some extent. It is suggested that the vertical seismic responses at the superstructure should be reduced by introducing a soft vertical isolation device.

Electric power collection is one of the most important factors for the high-speed trains' operation. For the stable current collection, the contact wire of a catenary and the panhead of a pantograph should maintain a constant contact each other. In this paper, the catenary was modeled as a spring with time-varying stiffness from the point of a pantograph moving along the catenary, and the pantograph was modeled as a 3-D.O.F. mass-spring-damper system. Using the adaptive control method, the desired control performance could be obtained with the modeling errors and the time varying parameters. Also the state estimator was used considering the difficulty of applying the sensors obtaining feedback signals. Simulations were accomplished in various ...
The Pseudo-Excitation Method (PEM) is applied to study the stochastic space vibration responses of train-bridge coupling system. Each vehicle is modeled as a four-wheel mass-spring-damper system with two layers of suspension system possessing 15 degrees-of- freedom. The bridge is modeled as a spatial beam element, and the track irregularity is assumed to be a uniform random process. The motion equations of the vehicle system are established based on the d'Alembertian principle, and the motion equations of the bridge system are established based on the Hamilton variational principle. Separate iteration is applied in the solution of equations. Comparisons with the Monte Carlo simulations show the effectiveness and satisfactory accuracy of the proposed method. The PSD of the 3-span simply-supported girder bridge responses, vehicle responses and wheel/rail forces are obtained. Based on the $3{\sigma}$ rule for Gaussian stochastic processes, the maximum responses of the coupling system are suggested.
A heave motion of the offshore crane system with load is affected by unpredictable external factors. Therefore the offshore crane must satisfy rigorous requirements in terms of safety and efficiency. This paper intends to reduce the heave displacement of load position which is produced by rope extension and sea wave disturbance in vertical motion. In this system, the load position is compensated by the winch actuator control. The rope is modeled as a mass-damper-spring system, and a controller is designed by the input-output linearization method. The model system and the proposed control method are evaluated on the simulation results.
In this paper, dynamic analysis of a nonlinear active vibration absorber is conducted with a time delay acceleration feedback to suppress the vibration of a nonlinear single degree of freedom primary system. The primary system consisting of linear and nonlinear cubic springs, mass, and damper is subjected to the multi-harmonic hard excitation with a parametric excitation. It is proposed to reduce the vibration of the primary system and the absorber by using a lead zirconate titanate (PZT) stack actuator in series with a spring in the absorber which configures as an active vibration absorber. The method of multiple scales (MMS) is used to obtain the approximate solution of the system under the internal resonance, subharmonic, superharmonic, and principal parametric resonance conditions simultaneously. Frequency and time responses of the system are investigated considering a delay in the feedback for the various parameters of the absorber configuration and controlling force.

Energy harvesting in trams may become a prevalent source of passive energy generation due to the high density of vibrational energy, and this may help power structural health monitoring systems for the trams. This paper presents a broadband vibrational energy harvesting device design that utilizes a varied frequency from a tram vehicle using a 2 DOF vibrational system combined with electromagnetic energy conversion. This paper will demonstrate stepwise optimization processes to determine mechanical parameters for frequency tuning to adjust to the trams' operational conditions, and electromagnetic parameters for the whole system design to maximize power output. The initial optimization will determine 5 important design parameters in a 2 DOF vibrational system, namely the masses (m1, m2 (and spring constants (k1, k2, k3). The second step will use these parameters as initial guesses for the second optimization which will maintain the ratios of these parameters and present electrical parameters to maximize the power output from this system. The obtained values indicated a successful demonstration of design optimization as the average power generated increased from 1.475 mW to 17.44 mW (around 12 times).
The rotating of rotatory unit with its structural unbalance mass and laundry is making the main vibration problem in a vertical axis washing machine. For reducing vibration problem total washing system hung on the case by its suspension system which is constitute of spring, damper and suspension bar and hydraulic balancer is attached at the upper rim of spin basket. In this paper, we make the dynamic model of washing system of its rigid body motions by 6 degree of freedoms. Hydraulic balancer is modeled by one degree of freedom like auto ball balancer. Elastic motions of washing system have found by method of analytic, experimental and FEM. And we consider first bending mode of each suspension bar and first circumferential mode of assy tub. So, the total washing system is modeled by 12 degree of freedoms. Equations of motion for total washing system have derived, and we perform the dynamic simulation tests.
In the offshore crane system, the requirements on the operating safety are extremely high due to many external factors. Rope extension is one of the factors producing vertical vibration of load. In this study, the load is carried by the motor-winch actuator control and the rope is modeled as a mass-damper-spring system. To control the load position and suppress the vertical vibration of the load, a control system based on input-output linearization method is proposed. By the simulation and experiment results with pilot crane model, the effectiveness of proposed control method is evaluated and verified.
