Dynamic characteristics of multiple inerter-based dampers for suppressing harmonically forced oscillations

  • Based on the ball-screw mechanism, a tuned viscous mass damper (TVMD) has been proposed, which has functions of amplifying physical mass of the system and frequency tuning. Considering the sensitivity of a single TVMD's effectiveness to frequency mistuning like that of the conventional tuned mass damper (TMD) and according to the concept of the conventional multiple tuned mass damper (MTMD), in the present paper, multiple tuned mass viscous dampers (MTVMD) consisting of many tuned mass dampers (TVMD) with a uniform distribution of natural frequencies are considered for attenuating undesirable vibration of a structure. The MTVMD is manufactured by keeping the stiffness and damping constant and varying the mass associated with the lead of the ball-screw type inerter element in the damper. The structure is represented by its mode-generalized system in a specific vibration mode controlled using the mode reduced-order method. Modal properties and fundamental characteristics of the MTVMD-structure system are investigated analytically with the parameters, i.e., the frequency band, the average damping ratio, the tuning frequency ratio, the total number of TVMD and the total mass ratio. It is found that there exists an optimum set of the parameters that makes the frequency response curve of the structure flattened with smaller amplitudes in a wider input frequency range. The effectiveness and robustness of the MTVMD are also discussed in comparison with those of the usual single TVMD (STVMD) and the results shows that the MTVMD is more effective and robust with the same level of total mass.

  • If a sinusoidal excitation force moves back and forth along a structure with a certain frequency, the structure will be excited with the difference frequency of these two frequencies. A low frequency vibration shaker has been developed using this force frequency shifting without actually moving a shaker The shaker consists of an ordinary eccentric mass shaker, a plate, constant springs, and time varying dampers. The dampers are turned on and off in a sequential manner to simulate a traveling slide of an excitation force. The operation of the shaker is simulated by solving the equations of motion of the shaker. Characteristics of the shaker have been found and they can be utilized to design efficient low frequency shakers.

  • Generally, the assembly system relied on conveyor lines is efficient for mass production. But it is not efficient when the product types are often varying and their lot sizes are small. Especially, it is much inefficient for the assembly lines for the electronic products whose types are varying very often. This paper suggests the design of U-shaped assembly lines to replace the existing conveyor systems. The assembly line for the mini-cassette production is dealt with as a case study. The proposed procedure was successfully applied for the design of U-shaped lines. The developed method resulted in the improvement of the productivity such as the decrease of the man power and the cycle time, and the increase of the line utility.

  • The neural network MRAC system is presented. The purpose of this paper is applied to a plant that is to be controlled in a strongly nonlinear environment. The proposed system has a learning and adaptive ability in the varying environment by using the back-propagation learning algorithm based on Lyapunov stability theory. N.N. regulator is a part of overall system and is guaranteed to be stable in initial stage. Nonlinear terms of the varying mass, colilori, centifugal, and gravity are compensated for by feedforward N.N. regulator. And the feedback controller (adaptive mechanism) works to eliminate errors of position, velocity which the feedforward controller cannot compensate for. Finally, the proposed system will be demonstrated by simulation of a two d.o.f robot manipulator.

  • Abstract The optimization is performed to reduce the mass of CNG pressure vessel reinforced with composite materials in the hoop direction. An axisymmetric shell element which takes into account the layered liner and hoop composite materials is thus developed and incorporated into a program Axicom. The accuracy of the program is then verified using the 4 noded element in ANSYS. Three different cases of optimization are then performed using the Axicom: (1) uniform hoop thickness, (2) varying hoop thickness, and (3) varying the ply angles and accordingly the thickness. Compared with a traditional method, cases (2) and (3) were found to be very effective in reducing the thickness and cost of the hoop composite materials by about 80% without sacrificing the safety factors.

  • R407C is considered as alternative refrigerant of R22 for air conditioners. Experimental investigation is made to study the condensation heat transfer characteristics of slit fin-tube heat exchanger using alternative refrigerant, R407C. Experiments are carried out at condensation pressure of 2110 kPa and 1943 kPa with the degree of superheat of 1$0^{\circ}C$ and mass flux varying from 150 to 250 kg/$m^2$s for refrigerant side. The inlet air condition is dry bulb temperature of 35$^{\circ}C$, relative humidity of 50% and air velocity varying from 0.8 to 1.6 m/s. Experiments show that pressure drop gets smaller at a higher condensation pressure especially when condensation pressure is raised from 1943 to 2110 kPa. Heat transfer rate gets smaller at a lower condensation pressure in the range of experimental condition.

  • A flow pattern and water exchange in Sagami Bay is examined using a barotropic hydraulic model. In the model experiments, the volume transports of the Kuroshio Through Flow were changed with time. The results of the model experiments show that when the volume transport is increased with time, water mass and vorticity are transferred to the inner part of the bay by wakes from the western part of the bay. In the case of decrease, as the wakes are ceased, the inner cyclonic circulation water is discharged to the outside of the bay by its southward extension through the Oshima eastern channel. It is found that the water exchange by the short-term variation of volume transport in time is about 20% of all the bay water.

냉매의 불균일한 분배가 증발기의 성능에 미치는 영향 (Effects on Refrigerant Maldistribution on the Performance of Evaporator)

  • An experimental investigation was conducted to study two-phase flow distribution in a T-type distributor of slit fin-and-tube heat exchanger using R22. A comparison was made between the predictions by previously proposed tube-by-tube method and experimental data for the heat transfer rate of evaporator. Experiments were carried out under the conditions of saturation temperature of 5$^{\circ}C$ and mass flow rate varying from 0.6 to 1.2kg/min. The inlet air has dry bulb temperature of 27$^{\circ}C$, relative humidity of 50% and air velocity varying from 0.63 to 1.71㎧. Experiment show that air velocity increased by 85.2% is need for T-type distributor with four outlet branches than that of two outlet branches under the superheat of 5$^{\circ}C$, which resulted in air-side pressure drop increase of 130% for T-type distributor with four outlet branches as compared to two outlet branches.
