2,6-Disubstituted Pyrylium Fluoroborates 화합물의 합성과 특성 (Synthesis and Characteristics of 2,6-disubstituted Pyrylium Fluoroborates)

  • Pyrylium염 화합물은 양전하를 띄고 있어 유용한 합성반응에 널리 이용되고 있다. 또한 전자를 받아들이는 특성을 갖고 있어 광유도전자전이(PET) 반응의 감광제 등에 응용되고 있다. 우리는 본 연구에서 몇몇 2,6-disubstituted pyrylium fluoroborate 염 화합물을 산성 매체(acetic anhydride/acid) 하에서 합성하였다. 합성한 화합물을 $^{1}H-NMR$, FT-IR과 TOF Mass로 그 구조를 확인하였다. 또한, 그 광특성을 UV-Vis를 통해 분석하였다.

  • The potential of using a double-faced wall stagnation flow burner in mass production of carbon nanotubes was evaluated experimentally and computationally. With nitrogen-diluted premixed ethylene-air flames established on the Nickel-coated stainless steel double-faced wall, the propensities of carbon nanotube formation were experimentally determined using SEM and FE-TEM images and Raman spectroscopy, while the flame structure was computationally predicted using a 3-dimensional CFD code with a reduced reaction mechanism. The uniformity and yields of synthesized carbon nanotubes were evaluated in terms of the flame stretch rates. Results show substantial increase of area on the wall surface where uniform carbon nanotubes are synthesized with using the double-faced wall stagnation flow burner due to enhanced uniformity of temperature distribution along the wall surface and support the potential of using a double-faced wall stagnation flow burner in mass production of carbon nanotubes.

Facilitation of the four-mask process by the double-layered Ti/Si barrier metal for oxide semiconductor TFTs

  • The double-layered Ti/Si barrier metal is demonstrated for the source/drain Cu interconnections in oxide semiconductor thin-film transistors (TFTs). The transmission electromicroscopy and ion mass spectroscopy analyses revealed that the double-layered barrier structure suppresses the interfacial reaction and the interdiffusion at the interface after thermal annealing at $350^{\circ}C$. The underlying Si layer was found to be very useful for the etch stopper during wet etching for the Cu/Ti layers. The oxide TFTs with a double-layered Ti/Si barrier metal possess excellent TFT characteristics. It is concluded that the present barrier structure facilitates the back-channel-etch-type TFT process in the mass production line, where the four- or five-mask process is used.

  • We summarize the progress on the rest-frame optical spectroscopy of quasars at 3$2.5-5{\mu}m$. This spectral window has been utilized for detecting redshifted $H{\alpha}$ emission lines of our high redshift subsample of quasars. From the calculated emission line widths and luminosities we measured supermassive black hole masses using well calibrated optical mass estimators. Science topics regarding optical based black hole masses at high-z are discussed.

Synthesis and Characterization of Alternating Block Copolycarbonates Containing Constituent Groups of Polysulfone

  • A series of alternating and alternating block copolycarbonates containing the constituent groups of polysulfone was synthesized through a multi-step solution condensation method. For the regulation of block length, monodisperse oligomers were prepared by using a large excess of the bisphenols and were subsequently incorporated into the copolymer chains. Separating the unreacted bisphenols from the oligomers by dissolution/precipitation steps took advantage of solubility differences. The structures of the monomers, oligomers, and copolymers were characterized and confirmed by GPC, NMR spectroscopy, mass spectrometry, and elemental analysis. Monodispersity of the oligomers, which is critical for control over the block length in the copolymers, was confirmed by GPC and mass spectrometry. Of the two constituent groups of the polysulfone, the sulfone linkage stiffens the polycarbonate copolymer chain, while the ether linkage softens it.

  • Both PM-OLEDs and AM-OLEDs are now in production. However, manufacturers are still concerned about life-time, voltage drift, operating voltage and efficiency in order to develop larger displays. Most material suppliers seem to be focussing on emitters and the benefits of introducing suitable charge transporters have been largely unexplored. OLED-T has developed a novel organic electron injector (Trade Name: EI-101) which evaporates at a very low temperature of $300^{\circ}C$ as opposed to the conventional LiF which requires $580^{\circ}C$. EI-101 has been found to increase the lifetime by up to 12%, reduce the voltage drift by up to 61% and increase the efficiency by up to 15%. The material can be handled in air and in situ Q-mass spectroscopy on extended thermal evaporation has confirmed its high stability for use in mass production.

Uncovering galaxy individuality with multiplexed integral field spectroscopy.

  • There is a rich diversity of galaxy properties and we are starting to understand some of the drivers for differences between galaxies. Much progress has been has been made in the last decade, thanks in large part to massively multiplexed surveys using single fibres, but we still lack a complete picture of how galaxies are built. I will discuss how large-scale integral field surveys can address a number of the outstanding questions in the field, starting with the current SAMI Galaxy Survey, and then looking towards the Hector instrument that will carry out integral field surveys of order 50,000-100,000 galaxies. With SAMI we can start to address how mass and environment influence galaxy structure and history, and I will discuss examples such as the environmental quenching of star formation and the distribution of angular momentum. With larger samples afforded by Hector we can go beyond simply mass and environment, to separate galaxies based on their merger or accretion history, as well as their larger-scale environment.

Isolation and Characterization of Marinobacter sp. KS-1, which Produces a Chondroitin Sulfate-like Mucopolysaccharide

  • In an effort to isolate a bacterium producing chondroitin sulfate (CS), a marine bacterium, KS-1, which produces mucopolysaccharides, was isolated from seawater and identified as Marinobacter sp. based on analyses of its morphological and biochemical traits and 16S rDNA sequence. Agarose-gel electrophoresis showed that the KS-1 strain produces a CS-like mucopolysaccharide. Structural analysis using Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy revealed that the structure of the CS-like mucopolysaccharide produced by Marinobacter sp. KS-1 is similar to that of dermatan sulfate (CS B). However, the molecular mass of the CS-like mucopolysaccharide is higher than that of standard chondroitin sulfates. Considering the above results, we conclude that the Marinobacter sp. KS-1 produces a CS-like mucopolysaccharide that differs somewhat from CS B in molecular mass.

  • Diesel particulate matter(DPM) often contains small amounts of metal as a minor component but this metal may contribute to adverse health effects. Knowledge of the mechanism for particle formation as well as the size preference of the trace metals is critical to understanding the potential for health concerns. To achieve this, the size and the composition of each particle should be optimally measured at the same time. Single particle mass spectrometer(SPMS) would be the best tool for this objective. In this paper, we therefore will introduce new findings about the mechanism and distribution of the trace metals in DPM, derived from a study where an SPMS was used to analyze freshly emitted DPM.

  • Iminoxyl biradical은 biradical spin probe로 액체결정에 주입시켜 그 결정의 director분포에 관한 역학적성질을 조사하는데 유용한 물질이다. 새로운 방법으로 iminoxyl biradical을 합성하는 과정에서 각 단계의 합성중간 생성물들을 녹는점측정과 NMR, IR, UV 및 Mass 등과 같은 분광학적인 방법으로 확인하였다. 최종 생성물인 iminoxyl biradical은 EPR 분광법으로 확인하고 두 spin간의 상호작용도 EPR peaks로 고찰하였다.
