나노입자를 포함한 미세액적의 충돌에 대한 수치적 연구 (Numerical Study of Impact of Microdroplet Containing Nanoparticles)

  • 충돌, 퍼짐 및 수축을 포함한 나노입자 혼합 액적의 거동에 대한 수치모사를 수행하였다. 기체-액체 상경계면은 벽면에서의 접촉각 이력현상을 포함한 레벨셋 방법을 이용하여 해석하였다. 액적 내부의 나노입자 분포를 해석하기 위하여 물질의 열확산을 반영한 농도 방정식을 해석에 포함하였다. 수치해석 결과로부터 나노 입자의 분포는 온도의 불균일 분포에 크게 영향을 받는 것을 확인하였다. 나노입자의 농도 집중도에 의한 표면 장력 및 접촉각변화 효과에 대한 연구를 수행하였다.

  • We synthesized polypyrrole (PPy) nanotubules by oxidative polymerization of the pyrrole monomer on the pore of a polycarbonate membrane. The electrochemical behavior was investigated using cyclic voltammetry and AC impedance. The redox potential was about -0.5 V vs. Ag/AgCl reference electrode, while the potential was about 0 V for electro-synthesized PPy film. It is considered as the backbone grows according to the pore wall. Therefore, it is possible to be arranged regularly. That leads to improvement in the electron hopping. The AC impedance plot gave a hint of betterment of mass transport. PPy nanotubules have improved in mass transport, or diffusion. That is because the diffusion occurs through a thin pore wall of PPy nanotubules. The kinetic parameter of PPy nanotubules enzyme electrode with glucose solution was evaluated. The formal Michaelis constant and maximum current calculated by computer were about 23.8 mmol $dm^{-3}$ and $440\;{\mu}A$ respectively. Obviously, an affinity for the substrate and current response of the PPy nanotubules enzyme electrode are rather good, comparing with that of PPy film. What is more, the enzyme electrode is sensitive to blood sugar of a diabetic serum despite an obstruction of ascorbic acid, oxygen, some protein and/or hormone.

보염기에 의해 안정되는 난류확산화염의 연소특성에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Combustion Characteristics of Turbulent Diffusion Flame Stabilized by Bluff Body)

  • The flame stabilization and the combustion characteristics of diffusion flame formed in the wake of a cylindrical bluff body with fuel injection are studied. With the turbulence generator, the flame stability limits and ion currents were measured and analyzed. The results from this experimental study are summarized as follows. The region with highest average value of ion currents in the middle of flame is moved to the upstream side by the turbulent components of main stream. The flame mass with partially active reaction is moved fast for uniform flow and turbulence generator G3, but the flame mass with relatively slow reaction is moved slowly for turbulence generator G1. If the turbulence generator with strong turbulent component is installed, the turbulent time scale is increased with movement from main stream side to recirculation zone as well as the flame stability limits is deteriorated. Though the special dominant frequency is not appeared in the eddy which exists in flame, high frequency characteristics are appeared in uniform flow and turbulence generator G3, and low frequency characteristics are appeared in uniform flow, turbulence generator G3 and G1.

  • 연안해역에서 해수순환과 오염물질의 확산과정을 연구하기 위해 수치모형이 널리 사용되어 왔으며, 최근에는 3차원 모형의 개발과 적용이 증가하고 있다. 연안해역에서 해수유동과 확산현상을 해석할 수 있는 3차원 수치모형을 수립하여 발전소 주변해역에서 해수유동과 온배수 문제에 적용하고 현장관측자료와 비교하였다. 수치모형은 실제 연안해역에서 유속분포와 수온분포를 비교적 정확히 재현하였다. 따라서, 수립된 모형은 연안해역의 해수유동 및 확산문제를 해석하는 데 널리 활용될 수 있을 것이다.

  • The stabilization characteristics of diffusion flame formed in the wake of a cylindrical flame holder were investigated. Distribution of turbulence intensity, concentration distribution of combustion gas, and ion currents were measured. The turbulence intensity in the wake of cylindrical- game holder is increased with increase of diameter or blockage ratio of grid. If the auxiliary fuel is injected into recirculation zone, the concentration of $C_3H_8$ is high, but the concentration of $CO_2$ is low at the boundary of recirculation zone.   • This study was executed to find the applicability of press drying of tree disk by investigating the shrinkage and drying defect and to form appropriate model by comparing the actual moisture content(MC) and internal temperature in respect of drying time with calculated values based computer simulation to which was applied finite difference method. In press drying disk, heating period, constant drying rate period maintained plateau temperature at 100$^{\circ}C$ and falling drying rate period were significantly distinguished. Actual MC and internal temperature were analogous to those calculated at comparing points. Heat transfer model formed by Fourier's law using specific heat of moist wood and conduction coefficient considering fractional volume of each element of wood cell wall, bound water, free water and air showed applicability as basic data to developing heat expansion, shrinkage and drying stress during press drying. Also mass transfer model formed by Fick's diffusion law using water vapor diffusion coefficient showed applicability. Longitudinal shrinkage was developed by pressure of hot press and tangential shrinkage was restrained by hygrothermal recovery. The heart check, surface check and ring failure were occurred differently in species, but V-shaped crack didn't develop.

  • This paper presents the results of a theoretical study of the effect of radiation during free convective laminar film boiling for methanol/water binary mixtures on an isothermal vertical wall at atmospheric pressure. With the well-known boundary layer theory as a basis, a theoretical model has been formulated into consideration for mass diffusion at liquid phase. The equations are numerically solved by a similarity method to investigate the effects of radiation emissivity on the surface with various parameters such as wall superheat and composition of more volatile component at liquid phase far from the wall. From the results, the distributions of the physical quantifies are investigated in both phases. New correlations are proposed to predict the heat transfer coefficient of binary mixtures. It is shown that the proposed correlations are in good agreement with numerical results and with Bromley's correlation within maximum $11\%$ errors. It is also found that as the wall superheat is increased, radiation effect becomes more important.

MRI-Based Stepwise Approach to Anterior Mediastinal Cystic Lesions for Diagnosis and Further Management

  • As the majority of incidentally detected lesions in the anterior mediastinum is small nodules with soft tissue appearance, the differential diagnosis has typically included thymic neoplasm and prevascular lymph node, with benign cyst. Overestimation or misinterpretation of these lesions can lead to unnecessary surgery for ultimately benign conditions. Diagnosing mediastinal cysts using MRI serves as a problem-solving modality in distinguishing between surgical and nonsurgical anterior mediastinal lesions. The pitfalls of MRI evaluation for anterior mediastinal cystic lesions are as follows: first, we acknowledge the limitation of T2-weighted images for evaluating benign cystic lesions. Due to variable contents within benign cystic lesions, such as hemorrhage, T2 signal intensity may be variable. Second, owing to extensive necrosis and cystic changes, the T2 shine-through effect may be seen on diffusion-weighted images (DWI), and small solid portions might be missed on enhanced images. Therefore, both enhancement and DWI with apparent diffusion coefficient values should be considered. An algorithm will be suggested for the diagnostic evaluation of anterior mediastinal cystic lesions, and finally, a management strategy based on MRI features will be suggested.

Heat and mass transfer analysis in air gap membrane distillation process for desalination

  • The air gap membrane distillation (AGMD) process was applied for water desalination. The main objective of the present work was to study the heat and mass transfer mechanism of the process. The experiments were performed on a flat sheet module using aqueous NaCl solutions as a feed. The membrane employed was hydrophobic PTFE of pore size 0.22 ${\mu}m$. A mathematical model is proposed to evaluate the membrane mass transfer coefficient, thermal boundary layers' heat transfer coefficients, membrane / liquid interface temperatures and the temperature polarization coefficients. The mass transfer model was validated by the experimentally and fitted well with the combined Knudsen and molecular diffusion mechanism. The mass transfer coefficient increased with an increase in feed bulk temperature. The experimental parameters such as, feed temperature, 313 to 333 K, feed velocity, 0.8 to 1.8 m/s (turbulent flow region) were analyzed. The permeation fluxes increased with feed temperature and velocity. The effect of feed bulk temperature on the boundary layers' heat transfer coefficients was shown and fairly discussed. The temperature polarization coefficient increased with feed velocity and decreased with temperature. The values obtained were 0.56 to 0.82, indicating the effective heat transfer of the system. The fouling was observed during the 90 h experimental run in the application of natural ground water and seawater. The time dependent fouling resistance can be added in the total transport resistance.

수직원관형 흡수기의 흡수과정에 미치는 비흡수가스의 영향 (Effect of a non-absorbable gag on the absorption process in a vortical tube absorber)

  • Effect of a non-absorbable gas on the absorption process in a vertical tube absorber was investigated numerically. The water vapor mined with air as the non-absorbable gas is absorbed into LiBr/water solution film. The flow is assumed to be laminar and fully developed in both liquid and gas phases. The diffusion and energy equations were solved in both phases to give the temperature and concentrations, from which heat and mass fluxes were determined. It was shown that the local absorption rate decreases as the mass fraction of air in water vapor increases. The vapor pressure of water at the liquid-vapor interface reduces significantly since the non-absorbable gas is accumulated near the interface. The effect of non-absorbable gases on absorption rate becomes larger as the mass flow rate of the vapor decreases. For small amount of non-absorbable gases the total absorption rate of water vapor increases as the mass flow rate of the vapor decreases. Total absorption rate increases as the mass flow rate of the vapor increases for large concentration of non-absorbables at the inlet of an absorber.
