  • In case of considering the shear effect, the complete solutions are obtained for dynamic plastic response of a rigid, perfectly plastic hinged-free beam, of which one end is hinged and the other end free, subjected to a transverse strike by a travelling rigid mass at an arbitrary location along its span. Special attention is paid to new deformation mechanisms due to shear sliding on both sides of the rigid mass and the plastic energy dissipation. The dimensionless numerical results demonstrate that three parameters, i.e., mass ratio, impact position of mass, as well as the non-dimensional fully plastic shear force, have significant influence on the partitioning of dissipated energy and failure mode of the hingedfree beam. The shear effect can never be negligible when the mass ratio is comparatively small and the impact location of mass is close to the hinged end.

  • This paper deals with the free vibrations of columns immersed in fluid. The column model is based on the classical Bernoulli-euler theory which neblects the effects of rotatory inerital and shear deformation. The eccentricity and rotatory inertial of the concentrated mass at the top are taken into accuont. In the governing equation for the free vibration of column, thedensity of immersed part was midified to account for theadded fluid mass. The govering differential equations are solved numerically using the corresponding boundary conditions. The lowest four natural frequencies and corresponding mode shapes are calculated over a range of non-dimensional system parameters ; the mas density ration of fluid to column, the ratio of fluid depth to span length, the ratio of tip mass to total column mass, the dimensionless mass moment of inertia, and the eccentricity.

  • The vibration characteristics of fully and partially embedded piles with flexibly supported end carrying an eccentric tip mass are investigated. The pile model is based on the Bernoulli-Euler theory and the soil is idealized as a Winkler model for mathematical simplicity. The governing differential equations for the free vibrations of such members are solved numerically using the corresponding boundary conditions. The lowest three natural frequencies and corresponding mode shapes are calculated over a wide range of non-dimensional system parameters: the rotational spring parameter, the relative stiffness, the embedded ratio, the mass ratio, the dimensionless mass moment of inertia, and the tip mass eccentricity.

  • The laser ablation/ionization time-of-flight mass spectrometry is applied to the isotopic analysis of solid samples using a home-made instrument. The technique is convenient for solid sample analysis due to the onestep process of vaporization and ionization of the samples. The analyzed samples were lead, cadmium, molybdenum, and ytterbium. To optimize the analytical conditions of the technique, several parameters, such as laser energy, laser wavelength, size of the laser beam on the samples surface, and high voltages applied on the ion source electrodes were varied. Low energy of laser light was necessary to obtain the optimal mass resolution of spectra. The 532 nm light generated mass spectra with the higher signal-to-noise ratio compared with the 355 nm light. The best mass resolution obtained in the present study is ~1,500 for the ytterbium.

  • Sensor used by semiconductor process produced an MAP sensor and applied to several industry. Among those sensors divided as transducer which convert physical quantity into electrical value, piezoresistive type sensor has been studied for the properties and sensitivity of piezoresistor. In this paper, the variation of seismic mass which have been functioned as actuator moving the cantilever beam analyzed the effect on distribution of resistance change ratio and supposed the optimal shape and position of piezoresistor. The resulting are following; According to the increment of seismic mass size, the value of resistance change ratio decreased caused by improve the stiffness. Y directional piezoresistor is formed in spot of 100 m apart from cantilever edge and length of that is 800$\mu$m. To increase the sensitivity, piezoresistor is made as n-type and x-direction.

  • In this paper, the fuel transport characteristics during transient condition was studied by using a Fast Response Flame Ionization Detector(FRFID). The quantitative measurement method for the inducted fuel mass into cylinder is studied. The inducted fuel mass into the cylinder was estimated by using calculated air-fuel ratio by hydrocarbon concentration of cylinder and air flow model. In order to estimate the transportation of injected fuel from the intake port into cylinder, the wall wetting fuel model was used. The two coefficient $\alpha$,$\beta$) of the wall-wetting fuel model was determined from the measured fuel mass that was inducted into the cylinder at the first cycle after injection cut-off To reduce an air/fuel ratio fluctuation during rapid throttle opening, the appropriate fuel injection rate was obtain from the wall wetting model with empirical coefficients. Result of air/fuel ratio control, air/fuel excursion was reduced.

  • Natural convection of a two dimensional laminar steady-state incompressible fluid flow in a rectangular enclosure has been investigated numerically for low aspect ratios with the physical vapor transport crystal growth. Results show that for aspect ratio (Ar = L/H) range of $0.1{\leq}Ar{\leq}1.5$, with the increase in Grashof number by one order of magnitude, the total mass flux is much augmented, and is exponentially decayed with the aspect ratio. Velocity and temperature profiles are presented at the mid-width of the rectangular enclosure. It is found that the effect of Grashof number on mass transfer is less significant when the enclosure is shallow (Ar = 0.1) and the influence of aspect ratio is stranger when the enclosure is tall and the Grashof number is high. Therefore, the convective phenomena are greatly affected by the variation of aspect ratios.

  • In the present study, the performance characteristics of a centrifugal air compressor were investigated experimentally. The PC controlled performance test facility for a centrifugal air compressor driven by an electric motor with a gear box to achieve higher compressor rotating speed was set up in the present study. The performance test for a turbocharger compressor of a diesel engine was conducted, and in a case of 34,800 rpm, pressure ratio 1.18, flow rate 0.09kg/s, compressor efficiency 61% were investigated. Adiabatic power for a tested compressor showed maximum value at mass flow ratio 0.8. The value of mass flow ratio of maximum efficiency was about 0.37, it was independent of compressor rotating speed.

  • In this paper, the purpose is to investigate the stability and variation of natural frequency of a Timoshenko cantilever beam subjected to follower force and tip mass. In addition, an analysis of the flutter instability(flutter critical follower force) of a cantilever beam as slenderness ratio is investigated. The governing differential equations of a Timoshenko beam subjected to an end tangential follower force is derived via Hamilton;s principle. The two coupled governing differential equations are reduced to one fourth order ordinary differential equation in terms of the flexural displacement. Finally, the influence of the slenderness ratio and tip mass on the critical follower force and the natural frequency of a Timoshenko beam are investigated.
